Book The Floating Day Returning The Ten Commandments To The Modern Church

Download or read book The Floating Day Returning The Ten Commandments To The Modern Church written by Douglas Marmion and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God desires His children to live by faith in His words, but we cannot live what we do not know. To run with God's words, we must first learn to crawl and walk. To compete in a race, an athlete must train. Understanding the Ten Commandments is the key to unlocking God's instruction and to equip us to live God's will in our daily lives throughout eternity. In The Floating Day: Returning the Ten Commandments to the Modern Church, Volume I, author Douglas Marmion shares the foundational truths of the Ten Commandments and the purpose of fully understanding and applying these statues. While all scriptures prepare us for life in the modern age, the Bible requires a prerequisite knowledge of the Ten Commandments to ensure that God's children walk in His teachings. Marmion's biblical study takes us on a journey using the Ten Commandments through the Bible so that we can prepare for life with God's guidance. The Floating Day explores how, using the Ten Commandments, we can access life-changing discipleship rather than relying upon man-made, modern-day, traditional church doctrine that remains on the surface of Christianity. With an impassioned call to return to the eternal truths in the Ten Commandments, Marmion will encourage us to embrace God's wisdom before Christ's second coming. Within these pages we discover: 1. How to call any day a Sabbath and why; 2. Why we should review the Ten Commandments frequently; 3. What the Ten Commandments hold in common with support of the local church; 4. How unending is the power of God's words as Marmion reminds us of who we are in Christ. For church leaders or those seeking in-depth, Bible-based learning, The Floating Day is a groundbreaking supplement to deep scriptural study, motivating Christians to boldly walk in the wholeness of God's truth. Douglas Marmion graduated from the University of Michigan in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, later completing a minor in Chemistry at Eastern University while seeking to earn teaching credentials. After receiving Christ at Vacation Bible School at age nine, Doug became Pentecostal at age twelve and water-baptized at twenty-one. He married on May 24, 2014. For over forty-one years, Doug has learned that if Christians desire effectively to honor God before death or the Rapture of the Church, then we cannot ignore the basics of the Christian faith. Readers can learn more about The Floating Day at Douglas Marmion's Author Facebook Page.

Book The 10 Commandments Then and Now

Download or read book The 10 Commandments Then and Now written by Robert M. West and published by Barbour Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most everyone’s heard of the Ten Commandments, but what are they really all about? Find out with The Ten Commandments—Then and Now. This new study views God’s ancient law, handed down to Moses at Mount Sinai, from the perspective of twenty-first century Christian faith. The Ten Commandments contain both timeless moral laws and rules that help us understand and relate to God. The apostle Paul said, “We know that the law is good if a man uses it properly” (1 Timothy 1:8 niv)—and since Jesus came to “fulfill the law” (Matthew 5:17), a study of the Ten Commandments can reveal truths to encourage, challenge, and build us up in our faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ten Commandments The Ten Commandments is an ideal Bible study resource for youth and adults. This 14 panel pamphlet can be read in 30 minutes and shows both the traditional and contemporary wording of each of the 10 Commandments, a principle and the meaning of each commandment, what Jesus taught about the commandments, and why the 10 Commandments are important today. 14 panels, fits inside most Bibles, 8.5 x 5.5 inches, unfolds to 38 inches long Below is an example of the information you will find in The Ten Commandments: Commandment 3 - Do Not Misuse God's Name Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain. Principle- God's name is holy, powerful and glorious. Meaning- God's name is holy and should be treated with respect. there is power in the LORD's name and it shouldn't be used lightly. Because God is Spirit, we know Him through what He says about Himself, to take His name in vain violates God's nature. As God's creation, everything a person says and does should be done in order to praise and glorify God. (1 Corinthians 10:31) Bible examples- When a man named Shelomith blasphemed the name of God with a curse, the Lord commanded that he be taken outside the camp and stoned to death. (Leviticus 24:10-16) Jesus was accused of blasphemy because He claimed to be God. (John 10:33) James warned believers to watch what they say because the tongue is capable of evil and poison and can easily corrupt a person. (James 3:5-9) Jesus' Teaching- Jesus said, "...every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven...But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words, you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." (Matthew 12:31, 36, 37) Jesus said to begin praying with: "Our Father in heaven, hollowed be your name." (Matthew 6:9) Explanations: Jews and Jewish scribes would go to great measures in order to avoid saying or writing the LORD's name for fear of blasphemy. The Bible says we are to pray, heal, and baptize in Jesus' name. (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:17, John 14:13, Acts 3:6) The Bible says that what we say is very important and it is a glimpse into who we are (James 3:9-12). God loves us and wants us to love and worship Him in whatever we are doing and at all times. God wants us to use His name; it is holy and powerful. If we can show respect for the names of our fathers, mothers, teachers and doctors, then how much more should we respect the name of our sovereign God. The Ten Commandments breaks the 10 Commandments into two main divisions: commandments about our relationship to God and commandments about our relationship to other people. This pamphlet is also a great resource on the history of the commandments and why The Ten Commandments were revolutionary for their time.

Book excerpt: You know them. But do you understand them? The Ten Commandments have become so familiar to us that we don't think about what they actually mean. They've been used by Christians throughout history as the basis for worship, confessions, prayer, even civil law. Are these ancient words still relevant for us today? Their outward simplicity hides their inward complexity. Jesus himself sums up the entire law in a pair of commandments: Love God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. Peter Leithart re-introduces the Ten Commandments. He shows us how they address every arena of human life, giving us a portrait of life under the lordship of Jesus, who is the heart and soul of the commandments.
