Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BOOK 1 OF THE LOVE AND SPORTS SERIES BOOK 2 (DOUBLE COVERAGE) AND THE FINAL BOOK 3 (THREE AND OUT) AVAILABLE NOW "This book had a lot going for it. There was a lot I really enjoyed... the double athlete angle, their interesting personalities, and the side story of Lexi's two best friends." "This book kept me attached to it all day. It's what I like to call a 'mommy can't function as a mommy' book" Training, playing ball and studying is Lexi's life and it never seems to bother her until her friend, Parker Hill, points out to her that sweat pants on a Friday night while watching sappy romance movies isn't really living up her last year in college. Lexi didn't see the need to party since she didn't know what the hell she was doing with her life after college but her friends wouldn't take no for an answer. Little did she know going to the first party of the season was going to flip her world upside down. Jake Taylor, starting quarterback for Cal U and campus heart throb spent his entire college career, partying, getting drunk and winning football games but it is all finally catching up to him. He is ready to throw in the towel of his partying days when he decides to have one more last fling. That is when he runs into the one person that could turn his life inside out. Lexi wants nothing to do with Jake and his partying ways but after one bet gone wrong , she finds herself on a date with the annoyingly obnoxious, egotistical heart throb. Even though she wants nothing to do with him, she finds herself gravitating toward him and giving into his charm. They fall hard and fast for each other as they find love, comfort and a home. They live in their own littler world where nothing matters besides the love they share for each other. But love isn't enough for Lexi when she is trying to find her way after college. She slowly sinks into Jake's shadow and finds herself clawing out of the Jake sized hole she buried herself in so she can find who she is, who she wants to be and what her future holds for her. Fair Catch is a true love story that goes through the trials and tribulations of Jake and Lexi's insecurities, jealousies, short comings and strong personalities. Love is one hell of a strong bond but sometimes, it's not strong enough. Follow Jake and Lexi as they try to hold on to the love they share while they try to find themselves and find out what life is after graduation.

Book The Anatomy of a Game

Download or read book The Anatomy of a Game written by David M. Nelson and published by University of Delaware Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is the first football history to chronicle year by year how playing rules developed the game. Football - a four-dimensional game of rushing, kicking, forward passing, and backward passing - has had more playing rule changes since its inception than any other sport. The Anatomy of a Game follows football rules from the game's European roots through its beginning in the United States to its position as the number-one spectator sport in the 1990s. Highlighted are details of the crisis years that changed the character of the game, with coaches and rules committee members the featured players. David M. Nelson, who served on the NCAA Rules Committee longer than Walter Camp, provides personal insight into all Rules Committee meetings since 1958, as well as an appendix - chronological and by rule - listing every change since 1876." "Ever since the first two human beings kicked, threw, or batted an object competitively, there have been playing rules. Games are mentioned in the Bible, and the Romans brought football's forerunner to Britain, from where it was exported to the United States. It was in the United States that college students decided to make their game rugby rather than soccer. Although the students invented United States football and made the first rules, their ruling power was eventually lost to the faculty, administrators, coaches, rules committees, and the NCAA." "Beginning as a brutal sport, football survived several crises before and after the turn of the century, eventually becoming respectable. The 1931 injury crisis split the high school and college rules and the same year the professionals went their own way, with rules largely based on spectator appeal." "Today the sport is a national treasure primarily because of its playing rules, over seven hundred in total, which make college football unique among the world's team sports. Moreover, football remains an American game, never having the same impact in other countries as do baseball and basketball." "Rules make the game, but people make the rules. Football survived the major crises that threatened the game because committee members adhered to the precepts that had governed football since its inception. The game began with an attempt to have a consistent code of justice, personal accountability, and equality. In some sense the playing rules are a type of moral precept that explains in the simplest terms what can and cannot be done. The Football Code, which first prefaced the rules in 1916, makes the game - more than any other sport - a moral one because it sets standards for coaching, playing, sportsmanship, and officiating."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book The Third Team NFL Officials Their Lives Their Stories

Download or read book The Third Team NFL Officials Their Lives Their Stories written by Richard Lister and published by NYLA. This book was released on 2019-12-19 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only third-person account describing the lives and work of NFL game officials. There would be no NFL football without him. He is an accountant, educator, lawyer, sales executive, policeman, dentist, business owner, corporate executive, or fireman. He is an NFL game official. His life is a little like Clark Kent's; he lives a mainstream life Monday through Friday. On Sunday he puts on a uniform lending impressive power. He makes decisions affecting lives, careers, and fortunes. On his best day he is anonymous and unappreciated; on his worst, he is despised. He does a job from which fans, coaches, players, and even he himself demand perfection. He will never achieve it. Though having an essential part in a popular game, he prefers a low profile. His anonymity evokes curiosity about who he really is. The Third Team takes stories and reflections from interviews with 25 past and current National Football League officials, including some among football's greatest, to give the reader a look into a job that is far more exacting than even the most astute fan appreciates. The stories reveal the kind of person who reaches the pinnacle. Though competitive, wanting to be the best among peers, each man recognizes that his crew s performance has higher value than individual achievement. Becoming a team player will bond each crewmember into a powerful brotherhood. Their stories ranging from humorous to poignant give the reader insight into those working to keep NFL playing fields level for both teams. The perspectives are complemented by observations from former NFL coaches Tony Dungy, Steve Mariucci, Herman Edwards, and Jerry Glanville along with former player and current television analyst Matt Millen. The Third Team will appeal to the fan who is interested in the game's inner workings and who will appreciate stories from behind the scenes and inside the country’s most popular spectator sport.

Book Football Rules Simply Stated

Download or read book Football Rules Simply Stated written by A. D. McPhilomy and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new official does not need any other book but this one to work from. This book takes the complex information in the rules and breaks it down for laymen. The information paints a visible picture of a fast paced game so as it is easy to understand. With this book a new official is able to see the scenarios on the field in a modern and easy view. I have taken this book along with the national book and given it to football coaches and, who after reading Football Rules- Simply Stated, have thanked me for doing so. They could not believe the simplicity but yet thoroughness of the work. Thom Pickens North Florida Officials Association Secretary Without Football Rules: Simply Stated I would not be the official that I am today. Having played, I thought that I knew everything there was, however, McPhilomy showed me a complete new world. The author’s ability to phrase the rules so that they can be learned quickly and easily is unmatched from other works that I have read. It is Simply Stated that gave me the keys to be a successful official, working high school ball, and built my rules knowledge foundation as I move up to the college ranks. I also use Simply Stated to train new high school officials. I highly recommend Simply Stated for any official or fan who wants a clear and concise view on the rule and how it should be interpreted. I use Simply Stated as the basis for my high school rules study every year, and will for years to come. Football Rules: Simply Stated is THE primer on high school rules and should be a part of every official’s professional library. Kellum F. Sowers North Florida Officials Association Vice President, Training Officer 2006 Rookie of the Year

Book THE LAWS OF CRICKET SIMPLIFIED 2017 Code 3rd Edn 2022

Download or read book THE LAWS OF CRICKET SIMPLIFIED 2017 Code 3rd Edn 2022 written by M. R. Singh and published by M. R. Singh. This book was released on 2022-04-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now, incorporates the amendment made by the MCC on 19.01.2023 Some content is revised as of 24.05.2023, basically, highlighting some aspects. IMPORTANT - Added a table on page A70. ABOUT THE BOOK After the encouraging success of the first book based on the 2017 Code (2nd edn 2019), the author presents this book which incorporates the changes made by the MCC in the 3rd edn 2022. For ease of understanding, these changes are marked in red throughout the book, accompanied by suitable notes & explanations. The original Laws of Cricket are generally seen as presenting quite a challenge for any reader, what with the ‘legalese’ and the long, complex sentences, and the use of several cross-references. ‘The Laws of Cricket – Simplified’, is written for the aspiring young umpire, the schoolgirl/boy, the casual cricketer, the club cricketer, the cricket commentator - even the armchair expert - whose interest in the game might arouse within him/her a desire to pick up a copy of the official Laws of Cricket, and who might be somewhat flummoxed by the intricacies of the Laws. This is an effort to help the lay reader understand the Law, by simplifying the language used and breaking up long sentences. The book is embellished with illustrations, charts & tables in order to break up the more complex Laws for easier understanding. The simplification of the Laws is somewhat limited by my desire to keep its basic structure the same to enable easier look-up in the original Laws in case it is desired. It is hoped that the serious learner might, also, find this book useful, especially the accompanying charts & tables.

Book The Laws of Cricket Simplified 2017 Code 2nd Edn 2019

Download or read book The Laws of Cricket Simplified 2017 Code 2nd Edn 2019 written by M. R. Singh and published by M. R. Singh. This book was released on 2021-01-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This version of the Laws of Cricket - Simplified is based on the 2nd edn 2019 of the 2017 Code of the MCC Laws of Cricket. A new version.written by this author, based on the 3rd edn 2022 is, also, available on Google Playbook. Though the MCC has issued a 3rd edn 2022 which is to come into effect worldwide on 1st Oct 2022, the BCCI, the controlling body for Cricket in India has decided to continue using the 2017 Code 2nd edn 2019 during the cricket season 2022-23. You will find this book useful if your home Board has not yet migrated to the new version (3rd edn 2022) of the MCC Laws. I am making available this version as an eBook since umpires & cricketers will continue to find this book helpful for understanding the Laws during the coming season, till your home board adopts the new laws. ABOUT THIS BOOK Ever since the 2000 code of the Laws of Cricket was released, and I taught the same at the MCA entrance level, I have felt that the Laws of Cricket have been drafted in a manner that acommon lay person will be able to comprehend without the guidance of a tutor. The Laws of Cricket, in its present form, is inundated with many cross-references that might, in my view, make the lay reader, the schoolboy; the club cricketer; the budding umpire, shy away from the study of the Laws of Cricket, should he happen to pick up a Law book. I shudder to think how those, whose first or second language is not English, cope with this. With a view to making the Laws of Cricket easily understandable for just these persons, who are at the grassroots of the game, I set about writing this book. This book is based on the 2017 Code, 2nd edition 2019 of the Laws of Cricket. To help in understanding some of the more complex of the Laws, which, at places, have a statement of law & exceptions to it, and exceptions to exceptions, and with cross-references to cross-references, I have included a few charts / tables to help break down some of the more complex Laws into smaller and more easily digestible morsels. Since I have always found it useful to do so, I have highlighted, by underlining, and making bold, certain key phrases and keywords in the Laws, which help the learner to understand it better. Also, certain alerts are provided in the margins, to draw the attention of the reader to critical rules. My efforts are to make the Laws of Cricket more user-friendly. This book does not seek to replace the official Laws of Cricket, the copyright for which is owned by the governing body for the Laws of Cricket, the Marylebone Cricket Club, but to help spread it wider and to penetrate to the grassroots. For any dispute or further study, a reference should be made to the original Laws of Cricket. Though this has made the rephrasing or paraphrasing of the Laws infinitely more difficult, I have retained the original numbering of clauses & sub-clauses, so that the reader can go to the relevant clause in the original Laws of Cricket as and when needed. I recommend that the student-reader have a copy of the ‘Blue-book’ ready when reading my book. I hope the students of the game will find this book useful as also will anyone preparing for an umpiring test at any level. It will be my pleasure to answer any query on the Laws of Cricket sent to [email protected] M. R. Singh
