Download or read book Catalytic Ammonia Synthesis written by J.R. Jennings and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of catalysis is found in many homogeneous and heterogeneous systems undergoing chemical change, where it effects the rates of approach to the equilibrium state in processes as diverse as those found in the stars, the earth's mantle, living organisms, and the various chemistries utilized by industry. The economies and the living standards of both developed and developing countries depend to varying degrees upon the efficacy of their chemical industries. Con sequently, this century has seen a wide exploration and expansion of catalytic chemistry together with an intensive investigation of specific, essential processes like those contributing to life-supporting agricultures. Prime among the latter must surely be the "fixation" of atmospheric nitrogen by catalytic hydrogenation to anhydrous ammonia, still the preferred synthetic precursor of the nitrogenous components of fertilizers. In each decade contemporary concepts and techniques have been used to further the understanding, as yet incomplete, of the catalyst, the adsorbates, the surface reactions, and the technology of large-scale operation. The contributors to the present volume review the state of the art, the science, and the technology; they reveal existing lacunae, and suggest ways forward. Around the turn of the century, Sabatier's school was extending the descriptive catalytic chemistry of hydrogenation by metals to include almost all types of multiple bond. The triple bond of dinitrogen, which continued to be more resistant than the somewhat similar bonds in carbon monoxide and ethyne, defied their efforts.

Download or read book Chemical Reactor Technology for Environmentally Safe Reactors and Products written by Hugo de Lasa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical reactor engineering, as a discipline, has a central role to play in helping with the development of adequate strategies and technologies that can deal effectively with the concerns of today's society, which are increasingly becoming attuned to the environment. The current challenge is how to adapt present processes and products to meet more rigorous environmental standards. Chemical Reactor Technology for Environmentally Safe Reactors and Products addresses these issues in three parts: I -- Fuels of the Future and Changing Fuel Needs; II -- Alternative Sources; III -- Emission Control, Chemical Reactor Safety and Engineering. Attention is also paid, throughout the text, to the fundamental technological aspects of reactor engineering and to possible strategies for bridging knowledge gaps.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land Drainage – Principles, Methods and Applications presents the latest information, concepts and technology for ensuring sustainable agricultural production and environmental management by adopting land drainage measures. It focuses on a subject, central to the sustainability of irrigated agriculture. The authors’ considerable field work experience and strong grip on the subject are pivotal in conceptualizing this book. This book provides an explicit description of the subject for students as well as the practicing engineers in this area. A logical sequence is followed in the presentation of chapters, beginning with the occurrence of drainage problems, their causes, remedies, design and execution of drainage systems and the benefits of drainage. The book can claim to be the only comprehensive title on the subject in India. SALIENT FEATURES 1. Follows an application-centric approach based on mathematical and statistical concepts 2. Provides a global scenario of drainage by studying different drainage models 3. Discusses drainage in the Indian context 4. Text is supported by statistical inputs and well illustrated examples 5. Includes self-assessment questions with answers and a number of solved and unsolved problems 6. Includes case studies of Drainage and Salt Management
