Book Pagan Portals Living Fairy

Download or read book Pagan Portals Living Fairy written by Morgan Daimler and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-27 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The experience of reading Daimler's book is rather like being taken firmly by the hand and danced through a whirlwind tour of both historical fairylore and the author's own lived experiences and hard-won gnosis. From academic perspectives and informed theories to pragmatic advice and practical rituals, a desperately-needed guidebook to the realities of working with the Good People, written by one of the foremost modern practitioners at the intersection of witchcraft and the Fairy Faith.' Misha Magdalene, author of Outside the Charmed Circle: Exploring Gender & Sexuality in Magical Practice The human world and the Otherworld have always been intrinsically connected just as the beings within them are, but these connections have been strained in the Western world over the last millennia. Cultural and religious shifts have pushed the Other to the fringes and centred humanity in the world and in many spiritual frameworks. As we move into the 21st century the Othercrowd is pushing back, seeking a return to their place in things. Many witches are feeling this shift. Living Fairy is a look at ways to deepen your practice of fairy witchcraft by actively calling the Good Neighbours back, and connecting to them more experientially. It emphasizes older ways of relating to them within a modern framework, while acknowledging the good and the bad that comes with this work. There is also an emphasis on moving away from solar and lunar holy days into a system focused on the stars, which may be an older way to relate to both the fairies and our spirituality.

Book Running with the Fairies

Download or read book Running with the Fairies written by Dennis Gaffin and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Running with the Fairies: Towards a Transpersonal Anthropology of Religion is a unique account of the living spirituality and mysticism of fairyfolk in Ireland. Fairyfolk are fairyminded people who have had direct experiences with the divine energy and appearance of fairies, and fairypeople, who additionally know that they have been reincarnated from the Fairy Realm. While fairies have been folklore, superstition, or fantasy for most children and adults, now for the first time in a scholarly work, highly educated persons speak frankly about their religious/spiritual experiences, journeys, and transformations in connection with these angel-like spirit beings. Set in academic and popular historical perspectives, this first scholarly account of the Fairy Faith for over a hundred years, since believer Evans-Wentz’s 1911 published doctoral dissertation The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries, integrates a participatory, “going native” anthropology with transpersonal psychology. Providing extensive verbatim interviews and discussions, this path-breaking work recognizes the reality of nature spirit beings in a Western context. Through intensive on-site fieldwork, the PhD cultural anthropologist author discovers, describes and interviews authentic mystics aligned with these intermediary deific beings. With an extensive introduction placing fairies in the context of the anthropology of religion, animism, mysticism, and consciousness, this daring ethnography considers notions of “belief”, “perception”, and spiritual “experience”, and with intricate detail extends the focus of anthropological research on spirit beings which previously have been considered as locally real only in indigenous and Eastern cultures.

Excerpt: The New Forest coven were a group of Neopagan witches or Wiccans who allegedly met around the area of the New Forest in southern England during the 1930s and 1940s. According to his own claims, in September 1939, a British occultist named Gerald Gardner was initiated into the coven, and subsequently used its beliefs and practices as a basis from which he formed the tradition of Gardnerian Wicca. Gardner described some of his experiences with the coven in his published books Witchcraft Today (1954) and The Meaning of Witchcraft (1959), although on the whole revealed little about it, saying he was respecting the privacy of its members. Meanwhile, another occultist, Louis Wilkinson, corroborated Gardner's claims by revealing in an interview with the writer Francis X. King that he too had encountered the coven, and expanded on some of the information that Gardner had provided about them. As the Neopagan religion of Wicca developed in the latter decades of the twentieth century, some of the figures who were researching its origins, such as Aidan Kelly and later Leo Ruickbie, came to the conclusion that the New Forest coven had never existed, and that it was simply a fictional invention of Gardner's to...

Book Fairies Demons and Nature Spirits

Download or read book Fairies Demons and Nature Spirits written by Michael Ostling and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the fairies, demons, and nature spirits haunting the margins of Christendom from late-antique Egypt to early modern Scotland to contemporary Amazonia. Contributions from anthropologists, folklorists, historians and religionists explore Christian strategies of encompassment and marginalization, and the ‘small gods’ undisciplined tendency to evade such efforts at exorcism. Lurking in forest or fairy-mound, chuckling in dark corners of the home or of the demoniac’s body, the small gods both define and disturb the borders of a religion that is endlessly syncretistic and in endless, active denial of its own syncretism. The book will be of interest to students of folklore, indigenous Christianity, the history of science, and comparative religion.

Book Sabbatic Witchcraft The Way of Midnight s Eden

Download or read book Sabbatic Witchcraft The Way of Midnight s Eden written by Daniel A. Schulke and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the term 'witch' encompasses diverse meanings across many cultures --most often referring to a practitioner of harmful or antinomian sorcery-- the witch of medieval Europe was in part defined in the context of the Sabbat: the nocturnal ritual gathering of the living and dead. Sometimes conflated with the Christian heresy of the Black Mass (or derided by occult writers as a degenerate form of ancient high magic) the Sabbat is in fact a fully-realized wellspring of ecstasy and ritual power with its roots in prehistory. This sequel to Schulke's 'Veneficium' examines the Witches' Sabbat, its magic and symbolism, from the night flight, to the frenzied round-dance, to sexual intercourse with the devil and the notorious 'Witches' Supper'. The Sabbat's essentially syncretic nature is emphasized, as well as its relation to Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and the polytheistic and animist religions which preceded them. As well as its capacity as a vehicle for individual power and ecstatic experience, the book examines the persistent embodiments of the Sabbat from its ancient origins to its present recensions as a vivified corpus of rites and magical philosophy.
