Book Factors Predicting Faculty Members Intention to Teach Online in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Download or read book Factors Predicting Faculty Members Intention to Teach Online in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia written by Fahad Obaid T. Alenezi and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the benefits online education provides, some faculty still consider online teaching less effective than traditional teaching and are not convinced they want to be involved in distance education (Blin & Munro, 2008; Bolliger & Wasilik, 2009; Chen & Chen, 2006). In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the movement toward online education is slow and not promising due to several factors that may relate to faculty, learners, and institutions. The aim of this study was to investigate faculty members' intentions to teach online at the University of Hail in KSA based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Additionally, this study assessed the effect of demographic characteristics (age, gender, computer use, and years of experience) on attitude toward behavior, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control and whether these variables significantly moderate the relationship between faculty members' 1) attitude toward behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and 2) their behavioral intention (BI) to teach online. This study employed a quantitative research methodology to address the research questions. The results of this study indicated that the combined TPB constructs (attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control) significantly predicted faculty members' intention to teach online and approximately 39.1% of the variance in the faculty's behavioral intention to teach online was explained by these three predictors. Specifically, the results indicated that attitude ([beta] = 0.44, p

Book Factors Affecting Faculty s Intent to Use E learning Systems at a University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Download or read book Factors Affecting Faculty s Intent to Use E learning Systems at a University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia written by Razan I. Alsuwailem and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E-learning systems provide instructors with a platform to create, deliver, and manage course content electronically. Faculty members' use of an e-learning system at Saudi universities concerns researchers, academics, and practitioners. Although most Saudi universities have an e-learning system, few faculty members are using an e-learning system. The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Education has seen massive investment toward the educational improvement in e-learning systems through building and maintaining an advanced level of Information Technology infrastructure, improving the utilization and flexibility of Information Technology resources, and enhancing and developing the privacy and security of e-learning systems. While previous research has examined factors affecting the acceptance of e-learning, few studies have examined the security of e-learning systems. Previous studies indicate the security of e-learning systems is important for motivating faculty to use e-learning systems due to issues of trust. Previous research has also examined the positive impact on users' attitudes toward using e-learning systems by two factors: perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU). The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between faculty members' intent to use (ITU) the e-learning system at their university and their demographic characteristics, perceptions toward the existing e-learning system security, PEOU, and PU of the e-learning system in one of largest universities at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), King Faisal University (KFU), using an online survey available in Arabic and English. A sample of 219 faculty members from KFU completed the online survey. Results found faculty members' ITU the e-learning system at KFU was influenced by their previous teaching experience with an e-learning system, the ability to change the user password in the e-learning system, and the PU of the e-learning system. The study findings encourage researchers to study other factors that may influence faculty members' ITU the e-learning system. Furthermore, the findings will help Information Technology practitioners, especially e-learning systems' developers, to design and develop systems that will be more likely accepted and useful by the University faculty members.

Book Factors Supporting Faculty s Intention to Use Online Video Sharing Platforms in the Classroom Environment

Download or read book Factors Supporting Faculty s Intention to Use Online Video Sharing Platforms in the Classroom Environment written by Abdullah Albalawi and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined factors that influence faculty members' behavioral intention to use online video sharing platforms (YouTube) to support their teaching presence in the classroom environment at one Saudi university, King Khalid University (KKU). Out of 3,583 KKU faculty members, 151 participated in this study. The study had three research questions. Regarding the first research question (To what extent do performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence explain faculty's behavioral intention to use online video sharing platforms [YouTube] to support teaching presence in the classroom environment?), the results indicated that the combined set of three predictors: Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), and Social Influence (SI) significantly predicted faculty members' behavioral intention. However, when examining each predictor individually, only PE was significantly related to Behavioral Intention (BI) with a positive relationship. For the second research question (To what extent do gender, nationality, academic rank, and teaching experience relate to faculty's behavioral intention to use online video sharing platforms [YouTube] to support teaching presence in the classroom environment?), the findings indicated that the combined set of predictors did not predict the faculty member's behavioral intention. Similarly, the results showed no significant relationship between any individual predictor and the outcome. Regarding the third research question (To what extent is the relationship between 1) performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence and 2) faculty's behavioral intention to use online video sharing platforms [YouTube] to support teaching presence in the classroom environment moderated by gender, nationality, and teaching experience?), the results showed a significant predictive relationship for the set of predictors on the outcome. However, the results indicated no significant moderation effect on the relationships between the three primary predictors (PE, EE, and SI) and the outcome, BI. The study discussed these findings in the light of the previous studies and provides recommendations for future studies.

Book Perceptions of Faculty Members on the Value of Distance Education at Two Different Types of Institutions of Higher Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Download or read book Perceptions of Faculty Members on the Value of Distance Education at Two Different Types of Institutions of Higher Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia written by Alaa Abdulrahman Alsuelmi and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the current rapid and forced adoption of online teaching during COVID-19 pandemic in many parts of the globe, the need for more studies for the burden faculty members will face to improve online learning will increase. This study aimed to examine the perceptions of faculty in Qassim University (QU) and Princess Nourah University (PNU) in Saudi Arabia toward distance education. For this purpose, the quantitative approach was used using an online survey instrument, quantitative data were collected from 122 faculty members. Findings of this study may encourage administrators in the KSA's higher education institutions to make key policy and process decisions that focus on improving the quality of online teaching. Understanding the influence (positive or negative) of faculty perceptions on online learning can help inform their decisions. The sample of the study consisted of 122 faculty members of faculty in Qassim University (QU) and Princess Nourah University (PNU) in Saudi Arabia. Findings from this particular study at both Universities have shown promising evidence that faculty members had a positive attitude toward online courses to some extent. The findings failed to support the null hypothesis of no difference for perceived value of distance education, and institutional support of online education regarding the influence of institutional support of online education on faculty perceptions of distance education. The results indicated that as length of institutional support of online education increases, satisfaction with effectiveness of online learning also increases. Faculty perceived value of distance education were also found to be related to the individual's perceptions of distance education. As the perceived value of distance education were more positive, so too does satisfaction with effectiveness of online learning. Theoretically, the findings of the current study are in concert with earlier research by Herzberg (1985) whose two-factor theory attributed increased responsibility advancement, and achievement to satisfaction.

Book Determinants Related to Faculty Members Intention to Use Webinars for Professional Development Purposes

Download or read book Determinants Related to Faculty Members Intention to Use Webinars for Professional Development Purposes written by Ali Mohammed Saghir and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professional development helps employees improve their skills and competencies for performing work-related tasks. It entails equipping workers with technical skills to enable them to use a new technology. However, institutions are still faced with challenges when integrating new technologies into their systems. It is important for the management of various institutions to inquire about employees' readiness to adopt a change before implementing it to determine the level of possible resistance. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the behavioral intention of faculty members on the use of webinars as a tool to receive professional development content at the Institute of Public Administration in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, gender investigated to see whether this demographic characteristic relates to faculty members' behavioral intentions to use webinars, and whether it moderates the predictive relationships between perceived usefulness / ease of use and behavioral intention. The theoretical framework that guided the study was the technology acceptance model which comprises two main constructs, namely perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. A quantitative correlational design research methodology was also utilized in the study. Moreover, the survey method was used to collect the data. Also, data from 194 faculty members were used for both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use were statistically significant predictors of behavioral intention to use webinars. In addition, the results indicated gender had no statistically significant moderating effect on the relationship between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and faculty members' behavioral intention to use webinars. This research concluded that, by examining these attributes of employees, managers may predict possible resistance to adopting new technologies in educational facilities. The research findings are aimed at helping institutions understand the factors that determine the employees' willingness to embrace a technology. Lastly, future prospects on examining the ways that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use can be promoted effectively within an institution are suggested.

Book Motivational Factors in an Online Professional Development Environment

Download or read book Motivational Factors in an Online Professional Development Environment written by Naif Mohammed Jabli and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While people outside of the profession may see online teaching as a randomly constructed field, the development of distance learning in higher education settings has grown rapidly over the past ten years due to the massive development of technology (Batts, Pagliari, Mallett & McFadden, 2010; McQuggan, 2012). According to Villegas-Reimers (2003), professional development can be summarized as, "the development of a person in his or her professional role" (p. 11). The problem of motivating and engaging faculty members who are enrolled in online professional development among the university training programs remains a barrier. Motivating the faculty to participate, reiterate, and improve is a key factor that is required to encourage such online development not only in King Khalid University (KKU) but also in the entire higher education system in the Saudi Arabian. Therefore, the purpose of this case study was to investigate motivational factors in the online professional development environment among faculty at KKU in Saudi Arabia. The research questions were designed to seek data related to facultys' attention, relevance, confidence, satisfaction, and to predict their intention to teach online courses at KKU. A valid number of 119 participants responded to the survey, 57 (47.9 %) were male and 62 (52.1%) were female faculty. The overall findings of this study showed that there was a positive relationship between relevance and faculty intention to teach online courses. The remaining three factors of ARCS model consisting of attention, confidence, and satisfaction; were not found to be individually significant predictors of faculty intention. Findings also showed that motivation significantly and positively predicted faculty intention. For limitation, this study utilized a homogeneous sample as all the participants belonged to the same university, KKU, and the same country, and so they might have used traditional view of the superiority of in person classroom. More about recommendation and future studies are discussed in chapter 5.

Book The Saudi Arabian Economy

Download or read book The Saudi Arabian Economy written by Mohamed A. Ramady and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-05 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Saudi Arabian economy has changed almost beyond recognition since the oil boom days of the 1980s, and the Kingdom itself has changed too economically, socially, and demographically. In the second edition of The Saudi Arabian Economy, Mohamed Ramady uses several overlapping themes to establish and develop a framework for studying the fundamental challenges to the Saudi economy. Particular attention is paid to the benefits of short-term planning and long-term diversification intended to shield the economy from potentially de-stabilizing oil price fluctuations and the pace and diversity of domestic reforms. The author examines the core strengths and evolution of various financial institutions and the Saudi stock market in the face of globalization, before analyzing the private sector in detail. Topics discussed include: • The hydrocarbon and minerals sector, including the emergence of the competitive petrochemical sector • The impact of small and medium sized businesses and the evolving role of “family” businesses • The growing role of women in the Saudi economy • The role of privatization and FDI as engines of change and the position of public-private-partnerships • The establishment of a foundation for a knowledge-based economy Finally, the author offers an analysis of the key challenges facing the Saudi economy, paying particular attention to the potential costs and benefits of globalization, and membership in the WTO. Employment, education, economic and social stability, and Saudi Arabia’s place in the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as Saudi Arabia’s evolving strategic economic relations with China and other countries are offered as keys to the consensus building needed to ensure the Kingdom’s healthy economic future.
