Download or read book The FBI and Religion written by Sylvester A. Johnson and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Federal Bureau of Investigation has had a long and tortuous relationship with religion over almost the entirety of its existence. As early as 1917, the Bureau began to target religious communities and groups it believed were hotbeds of anti-American politics. Whether these religious communities were pacifist groups that opposed American wars, or religious groups that advocated for white supremacy or direct conflict with the FBI, the Bureau has infiltrated and surveilled religious communities that run the gamut of American religious life. The FBI and Religion recounts this fraught and fascinating history, focusing on key moments in the Bureau’s history. Starting from the beginnings of the FBI before World War I, moving through the Civil Rights Movement and the Cold War, up to 9/11 and today, this book tackles questions essential to understanding not only the history of law enforcement and religion, but also the future of religious liberty in America.

You can find the original book here: https://amzn.to/2tHfP47 This summary of "The Threat", offers a firsthand recounting of Andrew G. McCabe's career in the FBI. You will see why the threats we face as a country today are as critical as ever. Not only are we dealing with external threats to national security in the form of international terrorism and interference in our democracy, but we also face internal threats from an administration bent on politicizing the work of the FBI, manipulating it for a self-seeking purpose, and thus, jeopardizing its ability to protect the American people as it's been intended in all the years it has functioned. It is integral to the Bureau's success in such trying times that the American people know its struggles, and that a relationship of trust and authority is built between U.S. intelligence and the people it is sworn to protect, so that these agencies may perform their work in the most fertile environment possible, and uphold those American values held most dearly, which do not lie across party lines. Book The FBI a Vocation to Serve

Download or read book The FBI a Vocation to Serve written by Robert A Casper Sr. and published by . This book was released on 2015-01-23 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I thought about titling my book and decided on the title, "The FBI, A Vocation to Serve." I felt it is truly a vocation and not a job and it is a call to serve the people of America. It may be difficult to believe or may seem inconsistent but some agents were actually priests and many were in the seminary to become priests. I guess the reason that is, is because most criminals are violent people and priests' vocation is to tend to their souls while as an FBI agent's vocation is to get them off the street to protect those that can't defend themselves. The entire mission of the FBI is to protect the weaker and the integrity of the United States. As a young clerk I was inspired when I saw the agents take violent people off the street. I saw them use their God given talents to out think those violent criminals and I saw them removed from society so they couldn't harm anyone else. I have always told my children to get jobs in serve to others. I told them if they have a hard time getting to the office, maybe they are in the wrong field. I never had a problem going to work each day. I had a fulfilled life and a vocation to serve. It was grand.

Book Exploiting East Asian Cinemas

Download or read book Exploiting East Asian Cinemas written by Ken Provencher and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2018-01-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the 1970s onward, “exploitation cinema” as a concept has circulated inside and outside of East Asian nations and cultures in terms of aesthetics and marketing. However, crucial questions about how global networks of production and circulation alter the identity of an East Asian film as “mainstream” or as “exploitation” have yet to be addressed in a comprehensive way. Exploiting East Asian Cinemas serves as the first authoritative guide to the various ways in which contemporary cinema from and about East Asia has trafficked across the somewhat-elusive line between mainstream and exploitation. Focusing on networks of circulation, distribution, and reception, this collection treats the exploitation cinemas of East Asia as mobile texts produced, consumed, and in many ways re-appropriated across national (and hemispheric) boundaries. As the processes of globalization have decoupled products from their nations of origin, transnational taste cultures have declared certain works as “art” or “trash,” regardless of how those works are received within their native locales. By charting the routes of circulation of notable films from Japan, China, and South Korea, this anthology contributes to transnationally-accepted formulations of what constitutes “East Asian exploitation cinema.”

Download or read book Boss of Bosses written by Joseph F. O'Brien and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 1992-05-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “At least as good as Mario Puzo, with shades of David Mamet or even Arthur Miller.”—New York Daily News Paul Castellano headed New York’s immensely powerful Gambino crime family for more than ten years. On December 16, 1985, he was gunned down in a spectacular shooting on Manhattan's fashionable East Side. At the time of his death, Paul Castellano was under indictment. So were most of the major Mafia figures in New York. Why? Because in 1983 the FBI had hidden a microphone in the kitchen of Castellano's Staten Island mansion. The 600 hours of recorndings led to eight criminal trials. And this book. Agents Joe O’Brien and Andris Kurins planted that mike. They listened to the voices. Now they bring you the most revealing look inside the Mafia ever . . . in the Mafia’s own words. “Beautifully done, not only strange and fascinating but even touching.”—Robert Daley, author of Prince of the City
