Book Butterfly Whispers in Twilight

Download or read book Butterfly Whispers in Twilight written by Sandra-Lee Hutt and published by Page Publishing, Inc. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lovella is the great-great-grandmother to the Townes family generations. It was during the 1800s that Lovella survived a vicious attack by a ferocious feline that wandered from a forest in Asia. This attack occurred during Lovella's third pregnancy of the first male child born into this family. This attack occurred in the backyard of her home while she was roasting pig, a cat ran toward her from the woods and knocked her down to the ground. Her screams were heard, and a pack of wolf dogs chased the feline away. The attack was so vicious it left permanent physical and mental scars on Lovella. The birth of the child was full-term although questioned by the doctor as to why the baby was born hissing like a cat and born with teeth and the "eyes of a tiger." Each time the baby boy named Timothy hungered for milk and food, his cry sounded like a "cat's meow." As the years went by, the child grew to speak well. He would experience temper tantrums all continued past the age of two. The family kept him close to home and never revealed to any family members or friends of the attack that Lovella experienced during her pregnancy. His favorite play area was in the backyard, as he was often seen scratching the bark on every tree in the yard. To this day, his name "Timothy" is embarked in a tree that still stands. There would be nights when Timothy would awaken and go to the kitchen pulling fruits from the refrigerator leaving large bite marks in unpeeled fruits and vegetables. Evaluations and testing from therapists, psychologist, and psychiatrist all revealed that little Timothy was born with a gene that carried a trait in the DNA that all males born into this family in future generations would carry this gene can never be removed.

Book The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Download or read book The Diving Bell and the Butterfly written by Jean-Dominique Bauby and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2008-03-06 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A triumphant memoir by the former editor-in-chief of French Elle that reveals an indomitable spirit and celebrates the liberating power of consciousness. In 1995, Jean-Dominique Bauby was the editor-in-chief of French Elle, the father of two young children, a 44-year-old man known and loved for his wit, his style, and his impassioned approach to life. By the end of the year he was also the victim of a rare kind of stroke to the brainstem. After 20 days in a coma, Bauby awoke into a body which had all but stopped working: only his left eye functioned, allowing him to see and, by blinking it, to make clear that his mind was unimpaired. Almost miraculously, he was soon able to express himself in the richest detail: dictating a word at a time, blinking to select each letter as the alphabet was recited to him slowly, over and over again. In the same way, he was able eventually to compose this extraordinary book. By turns wistful, mischievous, angry, and witty, Bauby bears witness to his determination to live as fully in his mind as he had been able to do in his body. He explains the joy, and deep sadness, of seeing his children and of hearing his aged father's voice on the phone. In magical sequences, he imagines traveling to other places and times and of lying next to the woman he loves. Fed only intravenously, he imagines preparing and tasting the full flavor of delectable dishes. Again and again he returns to an "inexhaustible reservoir of sensations," keeping in touch with himself and the life around him. Jean-Dominique Bauby died two days after the French publication of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. This book is a lasting testament to his life.

Book Butterflies Are Pretty Gross

Download or read book Butterflies Are Pretty Gross written by Rosemary Mosco and published by Tundra Books. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warning -- this book contains top-secret information about butterflies! Prepare to be shocked and grossed out by this hilarious and totally true picture book introduction to a fascinating insect. Butterflies are beautiful and quiet and gentle and sparkly . . . but that's not the whole truth. Butterflies can be GROSS. And one butterfly in particular is here to let everyone know! Talking directly to the reader, a monarch butterfly reveals how its kind is so much more than what we think. Did you know some butterflies enjoy feasting on dead animals, rotten fruit, tears and even poop? Some butterflies are loud, like the Cracker butterfly. Some are stinky -- the smell scares predators away. Butterflies can be sneaky, like the ones who pretend to be ants to get free babysitting. This hilarious and refreshing book with silly and sweet illustrations explores the science of butterflies and shows that these insects are not the stereotypically cutesy critters we often think they are -- they are fascinating, disgusting, complicated and amazing creatures.
