Download or read book Law Policy and Dryland Ecosystems in the People s Republic of China written by Ian Hannam and published by World Conservation Union. This book was released on 2012-01-31 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dryland zones of western China cover approximately 40 percent of the country, and contain some of the most severely degraded land within the country and in the world. This publication discusses the development of an integrated ecosystem management (IEM) approach in international environmental law and summarizes the legal and policy framework for prevention and control of land degradation at the national level and for six provinces and regions of the western dryland in China. It outlines the evaluation methodology that was applied to examine the existing legal and policy framework and points out specific areas where the legislation and policy for prevention and control of land degradation in dryland China can be improved. It concludes by discussing the continuing use of an IEM approach and the benefits of employing a sound legal framework as part of an overall land degradation control program including law reform, public participation, and enforcement.

Book Ecosystem Services and Management Strategy in China

Download or read book Ecosystem Services and Management Strategy in China written by Yiyu Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Ecosystem Services and Management Strategy in China" is a two-year international cooperation project that culminated from the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development’s Task Force on Ecosystem Services and Management. It combines case studies, scenario analysis, and stakeholder consultations that focus on Chinese forest, grassland and wetland ecosystems and assesses the economic and social benefits of sustainable ecosystems management. It also identifies better practices in ecosystem management from Chinese and international experience and recommends a more intensive integration of ecosystem services into decision-making processes. In November 2010, the Task Force presented five strategic policy proposals for the implementation of sustainable management for Chinese ecosystems. These proposals were extremely well-received by senior decision makers and have since been adopted by national government agencies. The book represents a valuable reference work for researchers and professionals working in related areas.
