Book Detection of Explosives and Landmines

Download or read book Detection of Explosives and Landmines written by Hiltmar Schubert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ARW is the third NATO-sponsored workshop on Explosives Detection and Humanitarian Demining. The previous events were • Detection and Destruction of Anti-Personnel Landmines Moscow, 1997 • Explosives Detection and Decontamination of the Environment Prague, 1997. Over the last decade applied research in Humanitarian Demining has made progress to some extend, but according to the tremendous tasks of Demining and the lack of scientific methods for practical detection of explosive devices, research activities are still of the same importance than ever before. Concerning countermeasures against terrorism the detection of explosives is one of the keyfactors, but the practical applications are not sufficient solved. An international exchange of research results are therefore urgent, to find out the most promising measures for application. The coincidence of this ARW and the terrible disaster of New York and Washington may demonstrate the importance of this task. In consequence the explosive device detection technologies can make a major contribution to collective, family and individual security. In developed countries, these technologies provide a strong deterrent and preventative measure against terrorist threats. In less developed regions, they can improve individual, institutional and state security, lessening the insecurity that motivates many terrorists acts. The elimination of landmine threats is just one of many ways of achieving this. However our attempts to meet the extremely difficult technical challenges posed by landmine and UXO contamination are inevitably leading us to new technological approaches.

Book excerpt: “There’s no contingency to my love or desire for you, Ady. I’ve waited years for you. Trust me when I say, now that I’ve got you, I’ll wait as long as you need.” I’ve longed to hear the words of love from a good man. A dependable man. For so long, I didn’t believe I’d ever deserve more than what I’d been offered. He made me see I was wrong. I deserved love. Happiness. Him. Brantley Marbury. The hero I didn’t know I needed. The man who stole my heart with a simple touch, sweet words, and a flaming desire to claim me. The thing with happiness, though, is that it can be ripped away at a moment’s notice. For so long, the Running M Ranch was my life. After my father died, I spent years funneling all my energy into ensuring its success. But as Pops once told me, all the success in the world doesn’t mean a damn thing without the love of a good woman at my side. I had no idea how true his words were until I met her. Adilynn James. A girl more than a decade younger than me and carrying more baggage than someone so young should. Sure, she comes with a little brother, a piece of shit mother, and a lack of confidence like I’ve never seen, but she’s worth it. Her heart speaks to my soul, and I know I’ll do anything to claim her as mine. From USA Today Bestselling Author KL Donn comes a sexy-as-sin, cowboys-do-it-better romance filled with family drama, a possessive rancher, and a heroine just hoping to survive.

This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Spanning the divide between independence and partition, it highlights recent historical debates that have sought to move away from a nation-centred mode of political history to a broader history of politics that considers the complex contexts within which different political imaginaries emerged in 20th century India. Representing the first attempt to grasp the shifting modes and meanings of the 'political' in India, this book explores forms of mass protest, radical women's politics, civil rights, democracy, national wealth and mobilization against the indentured-labor system, amongst other themes. In linking 'the political' to shifts in historical temporality, Political Imaginaries in 20th century India extends beyond the interdisciplinary arena of South Asian studies to cognate late colonial and post-colonial formations in the twentieth century and contribute to the 'political turn' in scholarship.
