Book Exploring a Contextualized Leadership Development Model Built on Spiritual Formation for Emerging Christian Leaders in Urban Cambodia

Download or read book Exploring a Contextualized Leadership Development Model Built on Spiritual Formation for Emerging Christian Leaders in Urban Cambodia written by Gil Sung Suh and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation explores the processes of leadership development in Cambodia among emerging Christian leaders in urban settings. Field research was done to identify the characteristics of these young leaders and the critical factors that influence their leadership formation. The purpose of this ethnographic study is to explore how to develop a contextualized model for the formation of emerging leaders in Cambodia. Although Cambodian culture has been deeply shaped by animistic Buddhism and its recent tragic history, the current context of Cambodian society is rapidly changing and becoming increasingly complex with impacts of globalization and urbanization. All these traditional and contemporary cultural forces significantly contribute to the shaping and formation of emerging Cambodian leaders. And these contextual factors must be taken seriously for any leadership development effort for Cambodian leaders. Emerging Cambodian leaders are well aware of the external challenges facing their society and church and deeply desire to lead a unified engagement of Christians. But these young leaders are mostly new and inexperienced in their leadership positions, and they are under a lot of pressure as leaders without many supporting systems. They are vulnerable to temptations and threats that could lead to burnout and dropout of ministry engagement. They need to secure their connection to God and to each other in order to develop spiritual leadership for missional engagement according to their divine calling. The research demonstrates the compelling need for a contextualized leadership development model for emerging Cambodian leaders who are in need of supporting systems with spiritual formation component for their ongoing leadership development. It includes a change strategy with the results of pilot projects that confirm the need and the effectiveness of such a model.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Missiology draws the connections between the theory and practice of missions. Using the metaphor of a river, the book shows how theories "upstream" such as theology, education, anthropology, community development, and history have exerted an influence on missiology (and missiology, in turn, has gone back upstream to influence those disciplines). What causes these disciplines to converge in missiology is the goal of making disciples across cultures. Whereas missiologists are not always explicit about how their abstract theories actually relate to the task of making disciples across cultures, each chapter in Advanced Missiology shows how numerous theories, sub-fields, models, and strategies of missiology ultimately facilitate the Great Commission. The book argues that by using interdisciplinarity for this fundamental purpose, missiological studies will be more credible and useful. Download or read book Formational Leadership written by Marcus K. Kilian and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the problem of toxic leadership in Christian contexts. Toxic leadership behaviors of narcissistic and obsessive-compulsive leaders will be emphasized. To counteract toxic Christian leadership, this book proposes a leadership development model, called formational leadership, which is based mostly on Wesleyan spirituality, but also includes monastic and Pentecostal spiritualities. Formational leadership is an eclectic leadership development model that includes components of transformational, authentic, and primal leadership approaches. Formational leadership emphasizes the spiritual, emotional, and ethical development processes in the leader and includes an analysis of orthokardia, orthodynamis, and orthopraxis. These components have a circular relationship with one another. Orthokardia includes the concepts of spiritual and emotional maturity that a Christian leader needs to develop in order to become an ethical and effective leader. Orthodynamis includes right power and influence motives based on Christian affections that should inform formational leadership. Orthopraxis refers to “right” and “just” leadership behaviors informed by Wesley’s social holiness and justice values that need to be adopted as organizational core values. The implications of these components for leadership development are outlined in chapters 4–6 that include practical steps for helping toxic leaders change their dysfunctional and harmful intentions and behaviors.

Book Embracing Maturity

Download or read book Embracing Maturity written by Todd Dustin Clark and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research of this project is concentrated on the integration of the disciplines of leadership, developmental psychology, and spiritual formation to inform a nine-month Christian leadership formation process for postmodern emerging adults. As the Staff Development Facilitator for an Outdoor Science Camp ministry (OSS), my task is twofold: (1) In regards to our mission, I aspire to help staff members develop leadership skills that prepare them to be excellent experiential educators; (2) in regards to formation, I desire to facilitate relevant spiritual growth for emerging adults. I believe the overlapping and pragmatic connection between these two goals is the art of discernment. While attempting to engage in a discussion on discernment, I have found that emerging adults struggle with proverbial "rocks" of plurality, development, and disconnection in the "soil" of their hearts in a cultural context that differs from the one that shaped my own formation process. This has provoked the question of, "How do I facilitate Christian leadership formation of emerging adults in a way that communicates to their postmodern context?" I believe the answer to this question can be found in the monastic methodology synthesized in the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola. Ignatius provides an image of embracing life rather than resisting it and a means based upon an experiential pedagogy that draws upon both the rational and experience for meaning making. Its ecumenical approach provides a way for emerging adults to participate in a commitment to theosis, explore communal Scripture reading, and grow in maturity as participants learn to pray through both exterior and interior means, and in time, will discern who they are and where they belong together in the embodied, shalom- filled, and freedom giving, mission of God. In the following pages, I will extrapolate these concepts and indicate how they can be utilized for the leadership formation of emerging adults in a Western American and postmodern context.

Book Leadership Training in the Hands of the Church

Download or read book Leadership Training in the Hands of the Church written by Joseph Nehemiah and published by Langham Global Library. This book was released on 2020-12-31 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church is a contextualized reality, and if it is to flourish, its leaders must be raised up to serve their own communities. Yet our very techniques for teaching and learning are culturally defined. If the church is to be effective in developing the leaders it needs, our approach to training must be informed by its local context. In this immensely practical text, Joseph Nehemiah combines sound pedagogical research with rich cultural insight to provide a framework for training leaders in an Arab context. Examining principles of adult education in light of Arab cultural dynamics, Nehemiah offers a paradigm for experiential learning that is biblically rooted and contextually appropriate. Informed by the experience of professors in the Arab Gulf, along with extensive interviews from local church leaders, Leadership Training in the Hands of the Church seeks to place the development, teaching, and training of leaders into the hands of the local church.

Book Foundations of Christian Leadership Student Workbook

Download or read book Foundations of Christian Leadership Student Workbook written by Don L. Davis and published by Tumi Press. This book was released on 2017-05-03 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The leaders of the Church of God are his precious gifts to his people throughout the ages. The evidence that Jesus loves his people dearly is that he has granted unto them apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers to equip his people to represent the Kingdom of God in this fallen and soon-to-end world (Eph. 4.9-16). This module highlights the various roles and offices associated with this high and important task in the Kingdom of God. This course explores the roles and offices of four of the critical positions of the leadership in the Church. The Christian Leader as Deacon probes the foundations of Christian leadership as it relates to the offices and functions of the diaconate, or ministry of deacons, as a servant, a steward, and an assistant. The Christian Leader as Elder traces the notion from its OT root in the tribal system synagogue, the Sanhedrin, to the NT Church. The Christian Leader as Pastor outlines the biblical context of the idea of the pastorate, tracing historically the development of the idea of undershepherd of the flock. Finally, The Christian Leader as Bishop defines the dynamic concept of bishop as overseer, tracing its probable context from the council of elders in Jewish rulership to its development in the history of the Church. This is the Student Workbook for TUMI's Capstone Module 7 English course, Foundations of Christian Leadership, which is one of 16 modules in the Capstone Curriculum. This book is intended to be purchased by TUMI satellites, mentors, or site coordinators for use within a TUMI Satellite. The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) is a ministry of World Impact, Inc. TUMI Satellites are a part of the TUMI Network, where leaders are developed in the local church using TUMI's curriculum and training system.

Book Leading from the In Between

Download or read book Leading from the In Between written by John McAuley and published by Castle Quay Books. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nurture and care provided to potential leaders during the early years of their development is crucial to ensuring they become healthy and mature leaders of the future. In Leading from the In-Between, John demonstrates this principle as he draws on his many years working with emerging leaders and shares his poignant insights into successful leadership development. He shares how he systematically built into the lives of these younger leaders the mindset and skills that eventually nurtured them into strong, well-rooted “oaks.” The depth of his understanding is evident throughout the book. His invaluable experience with both younger and seasoned leaders, is brilliantly captured in his insights which he compares to a bridge that will help others avoid the pitfalls and celebrate the prizes to be won as we equip future leaders for their maximum impact and success. John’s faith story is equally part of the interlacing that underscores the importance of each individual’s relationship to leadership and spiritual formation. His concept of “cadence,” which invites emerging leaders to “be in step with wisdom” is refreshing. This book is enriched by John’s decades of leadership experiences at Muskoka Woods. His passion for developing emerging leaders into their full potential will inspire the rest of us to do the same.

Book Spiritual Formation

Download or read book Spiritual Formation written by Anthoy Bailey and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual formation, the practice of intentional spiritual disciplines like fasting, silence, studying, and fellowship, should be the heart of growth in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina small churches. This practice assists congregants in developing closeness with God and relationships with others. Amidst a steady decline in national church attendance since 1992, few of today’s African-American Church ministries address the need for spiritual formation. This thesis explores this critical issue at the local level through interviews with pastors and church leaders, who describe their churches’ current efforts to foster spiritual formation in congregants. The findings are used to propose a model for local church leadership to promote community members’ spiritual formation. This model includes the thesis of applicable biblical passages and encourages attention to the Great Commission and Great Commandment of Christ–which all can assist church leadership in revitalizing missions, operations, and their commitments to developing the local African-American Church.

Book Establishing a Leadership Development Process for Gospel centered Multiplication at The Village Church Flower Mound Texas

Download or read book Establishing a Leadership Development Process for Gospel centered Multiplication at The Village Church Flower Mound Texas written by Justin Trevor Joy and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chapter 1 establishes the goals that encompass this project, provides important context to bring clarity to the need for a leadership development pipeline, addresses the challenges and complexities that exist at TVC, and gives a rationale for the role this project will serve to further the mission of TVC. The specific goals for this project were as follows: (1) to identify the core leadership competencies TVC desires to nurture in the lives of their members as they move from leading self to leading others to leading leaders, (2) to establish a unified language and process that maps out the development stages of a leader, content, processes, and environments necessary to transition leaders from one stage to another, and desired outcomes for each individual in their various sphere(s) of involvement, (3) and to create a functional pipeline for the identification, assessment, training, and releasing of leaders at TVC. Chapter 2 argues for the importance of creating a leadership development pipeline through providing a theological framework for a leaders path of development as exhibited through the New Testament. Though every Christian leader is distinct in scope and direction, each leader's formation and emergence follows a similar pattern. The stages of development established in this chapter as the development outline of Christian leaders are conversion, calling, challenge, and convergence. Through examining the life and development of the Apostle Paul, this chapter expounds on each trait to demonstrate how they paint a picture of the growth stages disciples' experience, as they become leaders in the church. Chapter 3 establishes a set of unified competencies and aligns those competencies with a set of components that map out the desired developmental lanes of a leader at The Village. The development competencies are identified through the utilization of TVC’s existing mission statement. Chapter 4 establishes the content and catalysts necessary to transition leaders from one stage (i.e., leading self, others, and leaders) to another, and creates a unified language and process to govern this pipeline. This is done by codifying the competencies and components of the leadership pipeline established in chapter 3 into a viable pipeline to serve The Village Church. Chapter 5 summarizes the argument made in this project for the creation of a leadership development pipeline at TVC, clarifies the implications that arose through the course of this project, and establishes the next steps to address these implications towards the successful implementation of the pipeline.
