Book Design of Piles Under Cyclic Loading

Download or read book Design of Piles Under Cyclic Loading written by Alain Puech and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments in the fields of energy, transport and industrial engineering have led to the emergence of new types of structures and infrastructures subject to variable stresses, for which the usual methods for designing pile foundations are now inadequate. The recommendations presented in this book will help to partly fill this technical gap by proposing a methodological approach and calculation methods to take account of the effects of cyclic loads in the design of foundations on piles. These are based on both laboratory and full scale experiments, and on modeling carried out within the framework of the national SOLCYP project.

Book Holistic Simulation of Geotechnical Installation Processes

Download or read book Holistic Simulation of Geotechnical Installation Processes written by Theodoros Triantafyllidis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-25 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides recent developments and improvements in the modeling as well as application examples and is a complementary work to the previous Lecture Notes Vols. 77 and 80. It summarizes the fundamental work from scientists dealing with the development of constitutive models for soils, especially cyclic loading with special attention to the numerical implementation. In this volume the neo-hypoplasticity and the ISA (intergranular strain anisotropy) model in their extended version are presented. Furthermore, new contact elements with non-linear constitutive material laws and examples for their applications are given.Comparisons between the experimental and the numerical results show the effectiveness and the drawbacks and provide a useful and comprehensive pool for all the constitutive model developers and scientists in geotechnical engineering, who like to prove the soundness of new approaches.

Book Lifetime Oriented Structural Design Concepts

Download or read book Lifetime Oriented Structural Design Concepts written by Friedhelm Stangenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-26 with total page 765 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safety and reliability are important for the whole expected service duration of an engineering structure. Therefore, prognostical solutions for different building types are needed and uncertainties have to be handled. Life-cycle strategies to control future structural degradations by concepts of appropriate design have to be developed, in case including means of inspection, maintenance, and repair. Aspects of costs and sustainability also matter. The Cooperative Research Center for Lifetime-Oriented Design Concepts (SFB 398) at Ruhr University in Bochum combines the wide range of scientific topics between structural engineering, structural and soil mechanics and material sciences regarding structural lifetime management in this present extraordinary monolithic format. The characterization and modeling of lifetime-related external actions of multiple origin are presented in this book as well as the physical description, the modeling and the validation of material degradation. Adaptive numerical methods and simulation techniques are provided for the lifetime-oriented design concepts to forecast material and structural degradation. Stochastic aspects, mathematical optimization methods and interactions between various influences are included. Thus, a solid basis is provided for future practical use and also for standardization of structural design with respect to lifetime-prediction.

Book Numerical Modelling of Construction Processes in Geotechnical Engineering for Urban Environment

Download or read book Numerical Modelling of Construction Processes in Geotechnical Engineering for Urban Environment written by Theodoros Triantafyllidis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-02-23 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has become increasingly important, particularly in an urban environment, to predict soil behaviour and to confine the settlement or deformation of buildings adjacent to construction sites. One important factor is the choice of construction procedure for the installation of piles, sheet pile walls, anchors or for soil improvement techniques, ground freezing and tunnelling methods. The modelling of construction processes, which are frequently associated with large deformations of the soil and with strong changes in the structure of the soil around the construction plant, in the case of, for example, a drill, a bit, a vibrator, or an excavation tool, requires sophisticated and new methods in numerical modelling. Often the simulation of the construction procedure is neglected in the calculations. Such methods are described and discussed in this book, as are examples of the methods applied to geotechnical practice, field and laboratory testing as well as case studies. This volume provides a valuable source of reference for scientists in geotechnical engineering and numerical modelling, geotechnical engineers, post graduate students, construction companies and consultants, manufacturers of geotechnical construction plants and software suppliers and developers of geotechnical construction methods.

Book Recent Developments of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics in Theory and Practice

Download or read book Recent Developments of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics in Theory and Practice written by Theodoros Triantafyllidis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides essential insights into recent developments in fundamental geotechnical engineering research. Special emphasis is given to a new family of constitutive soil description methods, which take into account the recent loading history and the dilatancy effects. Particular attention is also paid to the numerical implementation of multi-phase material under dynamic loads, and to geotechnical installation processes. In turn, the book addresses implementation problems concerning large deformations in soils during piling operations or densification processes, and discusses the limitations of the respective methods. Numerical simulations of dynamic consolidation processes are presented in slope stability analysis under seismic excitation. Lastly, achieving the energy transition from conventional to renewable sources will call for geotechnical expertise. Consequently, the book explores and analyzes a selection of interesting problems involving the stability and serviceability of supporting structures, and provides new solutions approaches for practitioners and scientists in geotechnical engineering. The content reflects the outcomes of the Colloquium on Geotechnical Engineering 2019 (Geotechnik Kolloquium), held in Karlsruhe, Germany in September 2019.

Download or read book Physical Soil Mechanics written by Gerd Gudehus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-03 with total page 843 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil is matter in its own right. Its nature can be captured by means of monotonous, cyclic and strange attractors. Thus material properties are defined by the asymptotic response of sand- and clay-like samples to imposed deformations and stresses. This serves to validate and calibrate elastoplastic and hypoplastic relations with comparative plots. Extensions capture thermal and seismic activations, limitations occur due to localizations and skeleton decay.Attractors in the large characterize boundary value problems from model tests via geotechnical operations up to tectonic evolutions. Validations of hypoplastic calculations are shown with many examples, possible further applications are indicated in detail. This approach is energetically justified and limited by critical points where the otherwise legitimate continuity gets lost by localization and decay. You will be fascinated by the fourth element although or just as it is so manifold.

Book Stabilisation Behaviour of Cyclically Loaded Shallow Foundations for Offshore Wind Turbines

Download or read book Stabilisation Behaviour of Cyclically Loaded Shallow Foundations for Offshore Wind Turbines written by Hendrik Sturm and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This work presents the results of model tests and numerical simulations of shallow foundations subjected to cyclic loads typical of offshore loadings. Small-scale model tests on a shallow foundation, subjected alternately to cyclic loads with large and small amplitudes, have shown that the accumulated rotations due to large amplitude loads reduce during later phases with smaller amplitudes. Numerical simulations have revealed that this behaviour of cyclically loaded shallow foundations is quantitatively influenced by the load amplitude and direction, and number of load cycles. This work concludes with a proposal for foundation geometries that efficiently resist offshore cyclic loads."--Page 4 of cover.
