Book Introduction to Hydrodynamic Stability

Download or read book Introduction to Hydrodynamic Stability written by P. G. Drazin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-09-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instability of flows and their transition to turbulence are widespread phenomena in engineering and the natural environment, and are important in applied mathematics, astrophysics, biology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography and physics as well as engineering. This is a textbook to introduce these phenomena at a level suitable for a graduate course, by modelling them mathematically, and describing numerical simulations and laboratory experiments. The visualization of instabilities is emphasized, with many figures, and in references to more still and moving pictures. The relation of chaos to transition is discussed at length. Many worked examples and exercises for students illustrate the ideas of the text. Readers are assumed to be fluent in linear algebra, advanced calculus, elementary theory of ordinary differential equations, complex variables and the elements of fluid mechanics. The book is aimed at graduate students but will also be very useful for specialists in other fields.

Book Experimental and Theoretical Advances in Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Experimental and Theoretical Advances in Fluid Dynamics written by Jaime Klapp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-23 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is comprised of lectures and selected contributions presented at the Enzo Levi and XVI Annual Meeting of the Fluid Dynamic Division of the Mexican Physical Society in 2010. It is aimed at fourth year undergraduate and graduate students, as well as scientists in the fields of physics, engineering and chemistry with an interest in fluid dynamics from the experimental and theoretical point of view. The lectures are introductory and avoid the use of complicated mathematics. The other selected contributions are also geared to fourth year undergraduate and graduate students. The fluid dynamics applications include multiphase flow, convection, diffusion, heat transfer, rheology, granular material, viscous flow, porous media flow, geophysics and astrophysics. The material contained in the book includes recent advances in experimental and theoretical fluid dynamics and will be of great use to those involved in either teaching and/or research.

Book Thermo fluid Dynamics of Two Phase Flow

Download or read book Thermo fluid Dynamics of Two Phase Flow written by Mamoru Ishii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-09-28 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written for graduate students, scientists and engineers who need in-depth theoretical foundations to solve two-phase problems in various technological systems. Based on extensive research experiences focused on the fundamental physics of two-phase flow, the authors present the detailed theoretical foundation of multi-phase flow thermo-fluid dynamics as they apply to a variety of scenarios, including nuclear reactor transient and accident analysis, energy systems, power generation systems and even space propulsion.

Book Acoustic Emission

Download or read book Acoustic Emission written by Wojciech Sikorski and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acoustic emission (AE) is one of the most important non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for materials, constructions and machines. Acoustic emission is defined as the transient elastic energy that is spontaneously released when materials undergo deformation, fracture, or both. This interdisciplinary book consists of 17 chapters, which widely discuss the most important applications of AE method as machinery and civil structures condition assessment, fatigue and fracture materials research, detection of material defects and deformations, diagnostics of cutting tools and machine cutting process, monitoring of stress and ageing in materials, research, chemical reactions and phase transitions research, and earthquake prediction.
