Book Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Disk Systems

Download or read book Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Disk Systems written by Igor V. Shevchuk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to investigation of a series of problems of convective heat and mass transfer in rotating-disk systems. Such systems are widespread in scienti?c and engineering applications. As examples from the practical area, one can mention gas turbine and computer engineering, disk brakes of automobiles, rotating-disk air cleaners, systems of microclimate, extractors, dispensers of liquids, evaporators, c- cular saws, medical equipment, food process engineering, etc. Among the scienti?c applications, it is necessary to point out rotating-disk electrodes used for experim- tal determination of the diffusion coef?cient in electrolytes. The system consisting of a ?xed disk and a rotating cone that touches the disk by its vertex is widely used for measurement of the viscosity coef?cient of liquids. For time being, large volume of experimental and computational data on par- eters of ?uid ?ow, heat and mass transfer in different types of rotating-disk systems have been accumulated, and different theoretical approaches to their simulation have been developed. This obviously causes a need of systematization and generalization of these data in a book form.

Book Flow and Heat Transfer in Rotating disc Systems

Download or read book Flow and Heat Transfer in Rotating disc Systems written by J. M. Owen and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the flow and heat transfer between co-rotating discs, and unifies the subject by means of physical insight and mathematical models, validated using experimental data. Many phenomena, unique to rotating flows, are explained, and empirical correlations and theoretical methods, suitable for design purposes, are presented. Data is provided within the book for validating CFD codes which are being increasingly used to compute the flow in rotating-disc systems. Since the publication of Volume 1 in 1989, there has been an increasing interest in rotating disc systems, mainly from research workers and engine designers concerned with understanding and computing the complex flow and heat transfer that occur inside the internal cooling-systems of gas-turbine engines. This book should be of interest to them as it may assist them in making more efficient use of cooling air systems, resulting in both economic and environmental benefits.

Book Convective Heat Transfer From Rotating Disks Subjected To Streams Of Air

Download or read book Convective Heat Transfer From Rotating Disks Subjected To Streams Of Air written by Stefan aus der Wiesche and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Brief describes systematically results of research studies on a series of convective heat transfer phenomena from rotating disks in air crossflow. Phenomena described in this volume were investigated experimentally using an electrically heated disk placed in the test section of a wind tunnel. The authors describe findings in which transitions between different heat transfer regimes can occur in dependency on the involved Reynolds numbers and the angle of incidence, and that these transitions could be related to phenomenological Landau and Landau-de Gennes models. The concise volume closes a substantial gap in the scientific literature with respect to flow and heat transfer in rotating disk systems and provides a comprehensive presentation of new and recent results not previously published in book form.

Book Heat Transfer from a Rotating Disc

Download or read book Heat Transfer from a Rotating Disc written by Günther Dibelius and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The local heat transfer from a plane rotating disc enclosed in a casing has been studied experimentally. The disc of 800 mm diameter can be run up to 2000 min−1 at axial distances between disc and casing varied between 5 and 55 mm. Centrifugal or alternatively centripetal flow of cooling air at rates up to ṁ = 1 kg/s can be applied, both with or without an inlet swirl. With the disc rotating in a closed casing (ṁ = 0 kg/s) the influence of the characteristic dimensionless groups on the local heat transfer has been investigated. At a fixed radius, a variation of the local Reynolds Number by either speed or density results in corresponding changes of the heat transfer. However, with a variation of the radius different heat transfer-Re relations are found. In fact, the temperature distribution in the gas caused by the heat flux results in an additional influence of free convection, to be expressed by a Grashof Number. This is confirmed by a comparison of the experimental results with calculations based on Reynolds Analogy and measured friction coefficients. The discrepancies found can be explained only, if in addition to the limitations of the analogy, the influence of free convection is taken into account. Additional results of ongoing experiments concerning the influence of the geometry of the cavity between disc and casing, of the coolant flow rate and of the swirl are presented.

This book was released on 2018-06-12 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this grant, experimental, numerical and analytical studies of heat transfer in a thin liquid film flowing over a rotating disk have been conducted. Heat transfer coefficients were measured experimentally in a rotating disk heat transfer apparatus where the disk was heated from below with electrical resistance heaters. The heat transfer measurements were supplemented by experimental characterization of the liquid film thickness using a novel laser based technique. The heat transfer measurements show that the disk rotation plays an important role on enhancement of heat transfer primarily through the thinning of the liquid film. Experiments covered both momentum and rotation dominated regimes of the flow and heat transfer in this apparatus. Heat transfer measurements have been extended to include evaporation and nucleate boiling and these experiments are continuing in our laboratory. Empirical correlations have also been developed to provide useful information for design of compact high efficiency heat transfer devices. The experimental work has been supplemented by numerical and analytical analyses of the same problem. Both numerical and analytical results have been found to agree reasonably well with the experimental results on liquid film thickness and heat transfer Coefficients/Nusselt numbers. The numerical simulations include the free surface liquid film flow and heat transfer under disk rotation including the conjugate effects. The analytical analysis utilizes an integral boundary layer approach from whichFaghri, AmirGlenn Research CenterEXPERIMENTATION; NUMERICAL ANALYSIS; HEAT TRANSFER; THIN FILMS; ROTATING DISKS; HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS; TRANSPORT PROPERTIES; TEMPERATURE EFFECTS; NUCLEATE BOILING
