Book An Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Hypersonic Inlet Boundary Layers Data reduction program and tabulated experimental data

Download or read book An Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Hypersonic Inlet Boundary Layers Data reduction program and tabulated experimental data written by J. F. Stroud and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed boundary layer surveys were made on four axisymmetric compression surface models simulating typical hypersonic inlet compression surfaces at free stream Mach numbers ranging from 4 to 8. The four models were designed to provide isentropic compression at design Mach numbers of 5, 6, 8 and 10. The Mach 8 design model had provisions for wall cooling. Quantitative heat transfer measurements were made on the Mach 8 model at free stream Mach numbers of 5, 6, and 8. Two existing turbulent boundary layer theories were modified to account for the various phenomena found to be of importance in hypersonic boundary layers. Theoretical results from these methods were correlated with the experimental data. A significant observation of the present program is the powerful favorable effect of centrifugal force phenomena on boundary layer development in continuous adverse pressure gradients. It was found that these effects become more pronounced with increasing Mach number and reductions in free stream Reynolds number.

Book Investigations in the Fluid Dynamics of Scramjet Inlets

Download or read book Investigations in the Fluid Dynamics of Scramjet Inlets written by Sannu Molder and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on projects related to the hypersonic fluid mechanics of scramjet inlets is described. Four experimental tasks were performed which used a hypersonic gun tunnel to generate flows having stagnation enthalpies up to 1400K, Mach numbers of about 8.3, and Reynolds numbers for a typical model in the range of 5 to 15 million. The first project investigated the interaction of a shock wave with a laminar boundary layer in the neighborhood of a convex corner. The second project dealt with flow established in a two-dimensional inlet consisting of a forebody-cowl combination. The third project investigated flow in a circular duct having a length to diameter ratio of about 10. The fourth project detailed the effects on inlet performance of using three distinctly different inlet geometries: axisymmetric internal flow, two-dimensional internal flow, and axisymmetric external flow ... Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the though that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemi nation. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 37 (thesis year 1992) a total of 12,549 thesis titles from 25 Canadian and 153 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 37 reports theses submitted in 1992, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
