Download or read book Radiological Risk Assessment and Environmental Analysis written by John E. Till and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-07-10 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiological Risk Assessment and Environmental Analysis comprehensively explains methods used for estimating risk to people exposed to radioactive materials released to the environment by nuclear facilities or in an emergency such as a nuclear terrorist event. This is the first book that merges the diverse disciplines necessary for estimating where radioactive materials go in the environment and the risk they present to people. It is not only essential to managers and scientists, but is also a teaching text. The chapters are arranged to guide the reader through the risk assessment process, beginning with the source term (where the radioactive material comes from) and ending with the conversion to risk. In addition to presenting mathematical models used in risk assessment, data is included so the reader can perform the calculations. Each chapter also provides examples and working problems. The book will be a critical component of the rebirth of nuclear energy now taking place, as well as an essential resource to prepare for and respond to a nuclear emergency.

Download or read book Energy Economics and the Environment written by Fred P. Bosselman and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 1280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This casebook integrates a legal assessment of energy resources with economic and environmental issues, thereby encouraging thoughtful analysis of energy policy issues confronting the U.S. and the world. Historical and contemporary legal issues confronting a range of energy resources are surveyed, including water power, coal, oil and gas, electricity, and nuclear power. Particular attention is paid to the need to reduce consumption of imported oil by motor vehicles. The third edition of the book contains considerable material on problems presented by climate change, including legal issues confronting renewable power projects and various conservation measures. We believe that the material can be taught in many different variations, and we continue to teach it in a somewhat different order every time it is offered.
Download or read book Environmental Impact Statement for an Early Site Permit Esp at the Exelon Esp Site written by U.s. Nuclear Reglatory Commission and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-14 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This environmental impact statement (EIS) has been prepared in response to an application submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon) for an early site permit (ESP). The proposed action requested in Exelon's application is for the NRC to (1) approve a site within the existing Clinton Power Station (CPS) boundaries as suitable for the construction and operation of a new nuclear power generating facility and (2) issue an ESP for the proposed site identified as the Exelon ESP site located adjacent to the CPS. In its application, Exelon proposes a plan for redressing the environmental effects of certain site-preparation and construction activities, i.e., those activities allowed by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 50.10(e)(1), performed by an ESP holder under 10 CFR 52.25. In accordance with the plan, the site would be redressed if the NRC issues the requested ESP (containing the site redress plan), the ESP holder performs these site-preparation and construction activities, the ESP is not referenced in an application for a construction permit or combined operating license, and no alternative use is found for the site. This EIS includes the NRC staff's analysis that considers and weighs the environmental impacts of constructing and operating a new nuclear unit at the Exelon ESP site or at alternative sites, and mitigation measures available for reducing or avoiding adverse impacts. It also includes the staff's recommendation to the Commission regarding the proposed action.
