Download or read book Electroreception Fundamental Insights from Comparative Approaches written by Bruce A. Carlson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fundamental goal of neuroscience is to understand how the nervous system extracts biologically relevant information from the natural environment and how it uses that information to guide and coordinate behavior necessary for reproduction and survival. The electrosensory systems of weakly electric teleost fishes and those of nonteleost fishes are attractive systems for addressing basic questions about neuronal information processing and its relationship to natural behavior. Comparative approaches in these fishes have led to the identification of fundamental mechanisms that have shaped the adaptive evolution of sensory systems across animal taxa. Understanding how sensory systems encode and integrate information about the natural world has far reaching implications for advancing our knowledge in the basic biomedical sciences and in understanding how the nervous system has evolved to control behavior. The primary goal of this book is to provide a comparative perspective on the topic of electroreception and review some of the fundamental insights gained from studies of electrosensory and electromotor systems. Although totally independent, this book follows from volume 21 in the Springer Handbook of Auditory Research series, Electroreception (Bullock, T. H., Hopkins, C. D., Popper, A. N., and Fay, R. R., 2005, Springer-Verlag, New York).

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence Empowered Modern Electric Vehicles in Smart Grid Systems written by Aparna Kumari and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-05-23 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial Intelligence-Empowered Modern Electric Vehicles in Smart Grid Systems: Fundamentals, Technologies, and Solutions is an essential reference for energy researchers, graduate students and engineers who aim to understand the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence for the integration of electric vehicles into smart grids. This book begins by building foundational knowledge for the reader, covering the essentials of artificial intelligence and its applications for electric vehicles in a clear and holistic manner. Next, it breaks down two essential areas of application in more detail: energy management (from to energy harvesting to demand response and complex forecasting), and market strategies (including peer-to-peer, vehicle-to-vehicle, and vehicle-to-everything trading, plus the cyber-security implications). A final part provides detailed case studies and close consideration of challenges, including code and data sets for replication of techniques. Providing a clear pathway from fundamentals to practical implementation, Artificial Intelligence-Empowered Modern Electric Vehicles in Smart Grid Systems will provide multidisciplinary guidance for implementing this cutting-edge technology in the energy systems of the future. - Supports fundamental understanding of artificial intelligence and its opportunities for energy system specialists - Collects the real-world experiences of global experts - Enables practical implementation of artificial intelligence strategies that support renewable energy integration across energy systems, markets, and grids

Download or read book Electric Currents in Geospace and Beyond written by Andreas Keiling and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electric currents are fundamental to the structure and dynamics of space plasmas, including our own near-Earth space environment, or “geospace.”This volume takes an integrated approach to the subject of electric currents by incorporating their phenomenology and physics for many regions in one volume. It covers a broad range of topics from the pioneers of electric currents in outer space, to measurement and analysis techniques, and the many types of electric currents. First volume on electric currents in space in over a decade that provides authoritative up-to-date insight on the current status of research Reviews recent advances in observations, simulation, and theory of electric currents Provides comparative overviews of electric currents in the space environments of different astronomical bodies Electric Currents in Geospace and Beyond serves as an excellent reference volume for a broad community of space scientists, astronomers, and astrophysicists who are studying space plasmas in the solar system.
