Book Evidence for the Heavy Baryon Resonance State Lambda b ast0 Observed with the CDF II Detector and Studies of New Particle Tracking Technologies Using the LANSCE Proton Beam

Download or read book Evidence for the Heavy Baryon Resonance State Lambda b ast0 Observed with the CDF II Detector and Studies of New Particle Tracking Technologies Using the LANSCE Proton Beam written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To discover and probe the properties of new particles, we need to collide highly energetic particles. The Tevatron at Fermilab has collided protons and anti-protons at very high energies. These collisions produce short lived and stable particles, some known and some previously unknown. The CDF detector is used to study the products of such collisions and discover new elementary particles. To study the interaction between high energy charged particles and the detector materials often requires development of new instruments. Thus this dissertation involves a measurement at a contemporary experiment and development of technologies for related future experiments that will build on the contemporary one.

Book Search for The Lambda Sub B Baryon at CDF

Download or read book Search for The Lambda Sub B Baryon at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The?{sub b} baryon has been observed recently by UA1 through its decay?{sub b} → J/??°. Although CDF finds twice as many J/? and observes?° decays, no evidence for an?{sub b} signal is seen. The UA1 data supports a lower than expected production P{sub T} for the?{sub b}, and therefore, a lower pion P{sub T}, below the observation threshold of CDF. This result suggests that UA1 and CDF are probably not inconsistent, but also that the production models are not quite right.

Download or read book First Observation of Bottom Baryon Sigma b States at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the latest results on the search for bottom baryon states [Sigma]{sub b} using ≈ 1 fb−1 of CDF data. The study is performed with the world's largest sample of fully reconstructed [Lambda]{sub b}° decays collected by CDF II detector at √s = 1.96TeV in the hadronic trigger path. We observe 4 new states consistent with [Sigma]{sub b}{sup (*){+-}} bottom baryons.

Book Measurement of B Baryons with the CDF II Detector

Download or read book Measurement of B Baryons with the CDF II Detector written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the observation of new bottom baryon states. The most recent result is the observation of the baryon [Xi]{sub b}− through the decay [Xi]{sub b}− → J/[psi][Xi]−. The significance of the signal corresponds to 7.7[sigma] and the [Xi]{sub b}− mass is measured to be 5792.9±2.5(stat.)±1.7(syst.) MeV/c2. In addition we observe four resonances in the [Lambda]{sub b}°[pi]{sup {+-}} spectra, consistent with the bottom baryons [Sigma]{sub b}{sup (*){+-}}. All observations are in agreement with theoretical expectations.

Book Heavy Flavor Baryon States at the Tevatron

Download or read book Heavy Flavor Baryon States at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precision measurements of the masses and widths of the bottom baryon resonances [Sigma]{sub b} and [Sigma]*{sub b} and charm baryons [Lambda]{sub c}(2595), [Lambda]{sub c}(2625), [Sigma]{sub c}(2455), and [Sigma]{sub c}(2520) are reported. A new measurement of [Lambda]{sub b} production is described. The studies include the first measurement of the widths and isospin mass splittings of the members of the [Sigma]{sub b} family. The charm baryons are examined through their strong decays to the [Lambda]{sub c} ground state, and measurements of their mass differences relative to the ground state, and corresponding decay widths, are reported. The data were collected by the CDF and D0 detectors for 1.96 TeV proton-antiproton collisions during Run II at the Fermilab Tevatron.

Book excerpt: We present a measurement of four new bottom baryons in proton-antiproton collisions with a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using 1.1 fb−1 of data collected by the CDF II detector, we observe four?°{sub b}?± resonances in the fully reconstructed decay mode?°{sub b} →?{sub c}?−, where?+{sub c} → pK−?+. The probability for the background to produce a similar or larger signal is less than 8.3 x 10−8, corresponding to a significance of greater than 5.2?. We interpret these baryons as the?{sub b}{sup (*){+-}} baryons.

Download or read book B Baryons at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we review the most recent results concerning B Baryons at CDF, including the study of the?{sub b}−,?{sub b}− and?{sub b}{sup ±(*)} observation and properties, and a new measurement of the?{sub b}° lifetime and the observation of new?{sub b}° decay modes. The?{sub b}− bayron is observed through the decay chain?{sub b}− → J/??−, where J/? →??−,?− →?K−, and? → pK−, using 4.2 fb−1 of data. The?{sub b}− mass is measured to be 6054.4 ± 6.8(stat.) ± 0.9(syst.) MeV/c2, and the lifetime 1.13{sub -0.40}{sup _0.53}(stat.) ± 0.02(syst.) ps. For the?{sub b}− the mass is measured 5790.9 ± 2.6(stat.) ± 0.8(syst.) MeV/c2 and the lifetime 1.56{sub -0.25}{sup +0.27}(stat.) ± 0.02(syst.) ps. The four new states?{sub b}+,?{sub b}−,?*{sub b}+, and?*{sub b}− have been observed in 1.1 fb−1 of data, and the masses have been determined, m(?{sub b}+) = 5807.8{sub -2.2}{sup +2.0}(stat.) ± 1.7(syst.), m(?{sub b}−) = 5815.2 ± 1.0(stat.) ± 1.7(syst.), m(?*{sub b}+) = 5829.0{sub -1.8-1.8}{sup +1.6+1.7}, and m?*{sub b}− = 5836.4 ± 2.0(stat.){sub -1.7}{sup +1.8}(syst.). CDF has performed a new measurement of the?{sub b}° lifetime using 1.1 fb−1 of data collected by the displaced vertex trigger 1.401 ± 0.046(stat.) {+-} 0.035(syst.), where the main systematic error is due to the uncertainty on the trigger model.

Book Properties of Weakly decaying Bottom Baryons Xi b and Omega b at CDF

Download or read book Properties of Weakly decaying Bottom Baryons Xi b and Omega b at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present properties of weakly decaying bottom baryons,?{sub b}− and?{sub b}−, using 4.2 fb−1 of data from p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeVf, and recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. They report the observation of the?{sub b}− through the decay chain?{sub b}− → J/??−, where J/? →??−,?− →?K−, and? → p?−. Significance of the observed signal is estimated to be 5.5 Gaussian standard deviations. The?{sub b}− mass and lifetime are measured to be 6054.4 ± 6.8(stat.) ± 0.9(syst.) MeV/c2 and 1.13{sub -0.40}{sup +0.53}(stat.) ± 0.02(syst). ps, respectively. In addition, the mass and lifetime of the?{sub b}− baryon are measured to be 5790.9 ± 2.6(stat.) ± 0.8(syst.) MeV/c2 and 1.56{sub -0.25}{sup +0.27}(stat.) ± 0.02(syst.) ps, respectively. Under the assumption that the?{sub b}− and?{sub b}− are produced with similar kinematic distributions as the?{sub b}° baryon, we measure?(?{sub b}−)?(?{sub b}−) → J/?(?−)/?(?{sub b}°)?(?{sub b}° → J/??) = 0.167{sub -0.025}{sup +0.037}(stat.) ± 0.012(syst.) and?(?{sub b}−)?(?{sub b}− J/??−)/?(?{sub b}°)?(?{sub b}°) → J/?? = 0.045{sub 0.012}{sup +0.017}(stat.) ± 0.004(syst.) for baryons produced with transverse momentum in the range of 6-20 GeV/c.
