Download or read book Everyone Hates The Dentist written by Tom DiStefano and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2024-06-27 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone Hates the Dentist is a book about what it’s like to be a dentist. The title is a tongue in cheek statement that juxtaposes an all-too-common expression with the reality of the type of relationships we as dentists actually have with our patients. It was written based on experiences, lessons learned and philosophies developed over a thirty-eight-year career as a dentist. It started out as a memoir or collection of stories which somehow morphed into a philosophical practice management and interpersonal behavioral manual. This led to a more in-depth analysis of how those stories were connected and how to best use the knowledge acquired in order to evolve and develop as a dentist and a person. The book talks about the positive impact dental professionals have on the lives of their patients. This also elevates not only their dental health but also their self-esteem and the impact on their overall health. The relationships forged and maintained during that time are the hidden gems available to dentists. This book would be of the very most use to young dentists in order to learn many of the things not taught in dental school and allow them to develop some essential skills earlier than they would have otherwise. Seasoned dentists would probably get a chuckle over some of the anecdotes and also be reminded of some of the experiences they’ve had over the years. Hygienists and dental assistants would also enjoy it as they live in the world described in the pages of this book. In fact, most health care providers beyond dentistry would be able to relate to the subject matter and get a lesson, a laugh or some validation from what is talked about. Part one, titled The People would be a great read for anyone who enjoys personal interest stories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I can honestly say that Mr. Gibson's stories have held my interest and broadened my perspectives more than any novel I have ever read. And I am a serious reader. Marie Gordon, Instructor of Drama and Speech, East Mississippi Community College These narratives present in vivid and lively detail many of the incidents and experiences encountered by Major Gibson during his military career. The stories are sometimes poignant and sometimes humorous; but each story presents some insightful lesson Gibson learned about life - even in the midst of war. William Yount, Instructor of History and Philosophy, East Mississippi Community College From the Marine Corps recruiting office to the challenges of Officer Candidate School; from stateside training as a new Marine attack pilot to harrowing combat experiences during two combat tours of duty in Vietnam; from 3500 hours of jet flight instructor duty to three and a half years as a staff officer at Headquarters, Marine Corps; from nearly passing out while running a sub-three hour marathon to looking back on it all after years of retirement, Major Gibson's recollections continue to rivet the reader's attention. The stories are absent of technical jargon and yet put the reader into the cockpit during moments of triumph as well as those of momentary fear. Possessing an easy-going and comfortable writing style, the author easily holds the reader's attention while relating a wide variety of experiences. The stories provide a valuable insight into the world of a junior officer serving as a combat attack pilot as well as assignment as an Air Liaison Officer to a battalion of Marines in the jungles of Vietnam.

Brad Kuhns offers a disturbing memoir that details the intimidation, threats, and attempts on his life.. With his heart on his sleeve, he chronicles the toll the stress took on his health and weighs the heavy burden of fear an torment suffered by the women close to him. Kuhns, ultimately went into hiding for two decades with only a select few trustworthy souls knowing the full extent of his chilling, touching story - - until now.
Download or read book Other People s Lives written by Johanna Kaplan and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2013-08-06 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the Jewish Book Award: A collection of five stories and one novella from Johanna Kaplan exploring the private worlds of Jewish families in New York in the middle of the twentieth century In her first published literary work, Johanna Kaplan, acclaimed author of O My America!, examines the lives of other people with heart, humor, and a unique understanding of their problems, demons, and dreams. An achingly poignant collection of character-rich stories, Other People’s Lives centers on the children and grandchildren of immigrants, mostly Jewish, living in urban America. They are people struggling with the past, mental illness, loss, family legacies, and all variety of expectation in the mid-twentieth century; they are transplanted strangers entering, and often imposing upon, the personal lives of others. From the brilliant title novella, in which a troubled young woman enters the rarefied orbit of a famous couple, to the delightfully appealing tale of a skeptical city girl’s unhappy expulsion to a summer camp in the country, Kaplan’s stories explore the power of self-delusion and the all-too-frequently unspoken pain of memory.

Download or read book Clothing Optional written by Alan Zweibel and published by Villard. This book was released on 2008-09-16 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Garry, it’s Alan. Look, I’m calling because I just felt the need to tell someone that I’m forty-four years old, and about an hour ago, for the first time in my life, I put suntan lotion on my ass. I’ll explain later. Bye.” In Clothing Optional, Alan Zweibel offers a collection of laugh-out-loud personal narratives, essays, short fiction, dialogues, and even a few whimsical drawings. Zweibel first made a name for himself as one of the original writers for Saturday Night Live, but his career’s humble beginnings included creating one-liners for Catskill comedians at seven dollars a pop. That experience is only one of the hysterically inspired anecdotes (“Comic Dialogue”) in this quirky compilation. Zweibel confesses his first love, as a young Hebrew school student, for Abraham’s wife, Sarah (“At this point, Sarah’s husband had been dead for more than three thousand years–so, really, who would I be hurting?”); recounts the time he was sent to a nudist resort to write an article (“The fact that I brought luggage is, in itself, worthy of some discussion”); offers a touching tribute to Saturday Night Live writer and mentor Herb Sargent (“Herb was New York. But an older, more romantic New York that took place in black and white like the kind of TV I grew up on and wanted to be a part of someday”); and imagines a scenario in which Sergeant Joe Friday, the stiff, monotoned character from Dragnet, is inexplicably partnered with Snoop Dogg (“Damn, Friday. You gotta learn to chill. Take some free time and kick it with your boys”) Every piece is punctuated with the same wit and insight that have come to define Zweibel’s humor. Unhinged and hilarious, Clothing Optional is an unguided tour through the uniquely peculiar life and mind of a man who The New York Times said “has earned a place in the pantheon of American pop culture.”
