Book My Truth from the Top

Download or read book My Truth from the Top written by Sergeant Major Patrick Durr and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After 9/11, controversy had stirred when news broke that the U.S. military was conducting a "War on Terror" initiative. Many American civilians and civic groups have relentlessly expressed their disdain against sending American soldiers to Afghanistan to participate in this war-on-terror. Nonetheless, despite these protests, off-shore military operations still continue. What many Americans need to understand is why these kinds of military actions and interventions are necessary. MY TRUTH FROM THE TOP offers perspective on the necessity of taking the war outside the borders of America in order to protect the American people. Created by author Sergeant Major Patrick Durr, this book takes readers to an up-close and personal glimpse into the daily battles of American soldiers stationed halfway across the globe. Through the one-year's worth of daily notes and writings of the author, readers can learn to appreciate what the American leaders and soldiers in Afghanistan are doing in order to preserve the peace and freedom of their homeland. Citing the amount of sacrifice they have endured in order to bring the war outside and away from the gates of America, this book reveals the real-life situations and compelling truths that describe what it is really like to defend one's own country. With illustrations, letters, communications and narratives, this work highlights the events that have been obscured from the knowledge of many Americans. Insightful and informative, MY TRUTH FROM THE TOP is a groundbreaking book that provides understanding, learning and growth. Engaging, it leads people out of the confines of ignorance about what really goes on in the world, beyond the comforts of their civilized societies. It educates Americans on the streets about what their government leaders, politicians and military forces know.

Book Eventual Poppy Day

Download or read book Eventual Poppy Day written by Libby Hathorn and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Painstakingly researched and extremely well written, this is a novel that moves deftly and easily from one time period to another and yet still allows the novel to retain an overall sense of cohesion. Shooting stars, kisses, grenades and the lumbering tanks. And the shrieking skies and the shaking comrades: 'Up and over, lads!' And I know it is time again to go into madness. It is 1915 and eighteen-year-old Maurice Roche is serving in the Great War. A century later, Maurice's great-great nephew, eighteen-year-old Oliver, is fighting his own war -- against himself. When Oliver is given Maurice's war diary, he has little interest in its contents -- except for Maurice's sketches throughout, which are intriguing to Oliver who is also a talented artist. As he reads more of the diary though, Oliver discovers that, despite living in different times, there are other similarities between them: doubts, heartbreak, loyalty, and the courage to face the darkest of times. From award-winning children's and YA author Libby Hathorn comes a moving, timely and very personal book examining the nature of valour, the power of family and the endurance of love. This is a story we should never forget. Ages: 14+

Book Transforming Violent Political Movements

Download or read book Transforming Violent Political Movements written by Kevin E. Grisham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-21 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the factors that influence violent rebellious political organisations to transform into other entities, such as political parties, criminal organisations and terrorist organisations. From the end of the Second World War until 1990, many events in the world centred on the bipolar struggle between the United States and the USSR. Although there were numerous civil wars occurring during the Cold War era, many of these conflicts went virtually unnoticed unless they were linked to the Cold War struggle for ideological dominance. In the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union, the number of intra-state conflicts was prevalent around the globe. Along with the occurrence of civil wars, a variety of violent political movements also developed. Examining cases from Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Asia, this book addresses how violent political movements transform during and after conflict into new types of organisations using the collective political violence transformative (CPVT) model. The study uses a combination of pre-existing literature from the fields of sociology and political science, archival research, and interviews with movement members (former and active) conducted by the author. In studying the Provisional IRA and Sinn Féin, the Spear of the Nation (MK) and the African National Congress (ANC), the Abu Sayyaf Group and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP), Transforming Violent Political Movements paints a picture of organisations that have to respond to their environments to survive. This book will be of much interest to students of political violence, terrorism, war and conflict studies, security studies and IR.
