Book excerpt: "The purpose of the Teen Pregnancy Targeted Case Management (TPTCM) program is to provide comprehensive case management services to KanCare eligible pregnant and/or parenting (up to 12 months postpartum) adolescents through age 20 years in Kansas communities, with priority given to communities with greater numbers of adolescent Medicaid recipients. The program's goals are to: Reduce negative consequences of teenage pregnancy for KanCare-enrolled teens and their children; Increase levels of self-sufficiency and goal-directedness relating to their own futures and that of their children; and Delay subsequent childbearing until completion of goals related to basic education/training; or until they reach 21 years of age. Through this initiative, grants are awarded annually on a competitive basis. Grant funds should only be utilized after all other payment sources, including but not limited to insurance coverage, sliding fee scale and discount options, and/or government assistance programs have been exhausted. Grant funds may not be used to pay for direct medical services including contraception. Pregnant or parenting adolescents (less than 21 years of age) enrolled in KanCare, receive individualized, intensive case management services to assist them with identifying and utilizing personal, social and community resources so they will be better able to meet the challenges in their lives and achieve their goals. The length of program participation is determined by individual client needs and identified case goals. Priority is given to adolescents who are pregnant or in their first year of parenting (up to 12 months following delivery)."--Background & Program Purpose.
