This book was released on 2012-01-20 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives information on non destructive techniques for assessment of concrete structures. It synthesizes the best of international knowledge about what techniques can be used for assessing material properties (strength) and structural properties (geometry, defects...). It describes how the techniques can be used so as to answer a series of usual questions, highlighting their capabilities and limits, and providing advices for a better use of techniques. It also focuses on possible combinations of techniques so as to improve the assessment. It is based on many illustrative examples and give in each case references to standards and guidelines.

Download or read book Compressive Strength of Concrete written by Pavel Krivenko and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.

Download or read book Evaluation of Acceptance Strength Tests for Concrete Pavements written by Miguel Picornell-Darder and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The North Carolina Department of Transportation has used traditionally flexural strength tests for acceptance testing of Portland cement concrete pavements. This report summarizes a research project implemented to investigate the feasibility of using other strength tests and nondestructive tests, to accomplish the same objective of ensuring an adequate modulus of rupture of the slab but avoiding or reducing the need to perform a large number of flexural strength determinations for acceptance testing. The present work has been laid around using a nondestructive test (a resonant column) to measure a seismic modulus that is used as a rating tool to evaluate the repeatability of duplicate specimens before the specimens are strength tested. This has been accomplished by developing regression lines and confidence and prediction intervals for the correlation of the seismic modulus to flexural, splitting tension, and compressive strength test. All these test show strong correlation coefficients and, thus, all have the possibility to be used in the prediction of flexural strength. The report suggests a new process for acceptance testing based on using a combination of compressive strength and seismic modulus. The selection of compression testing is based on the perceived know-how of the personnel of NCDOT throughout the State.
Download or read book Testing During Concrete Construction written by H.W. Reinhardt and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-01-31 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Testing concrete while construction is underway enables decisions to be made which can improve the quality of the finished structure. The book covers testing and measuring techniques for fresh concrete and concrete during the first few days after placing, and for reinforcement and prestressing tendons. Many examples are given of practical methods which can be applied directly during concrete construction to improve quality. It forms the Proceedings of the International RILEM Workshop in Mainz, Germany, March 1990.

Download or read book Engineered Concrete Mix Design and Test Methods written by Irving Kett and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-11-29 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Romans used an early type of concrete made with natural pozzuolanic cement more than 2,000 years ago. Today, Portland Cement Concrete is the most important material of construction. Yet few books, if any, exist that offer an in-depth analysis of the mixing and testing methods of this vital hydraulic cement. Until now that is. Engineered Concrete: Mix Design and Test Methods helps engineers, as well as laboratory technicians, grasp a better understanding of Portland Cement and Portland Cement Concrete. The book is divided into several sections, with the first, Mix Design Procedures, explaining how concrete batches are designed, mixed, and measured for various consistencies. Another section details the tests of the primary component materials of concrete other than water - namely Portland Cement, aggregates, and mortar - while the final section includes some of the fundamental concrete testing procedures for different strength parameters in conformity with the standards of the American Society for Testing Materials. While focusing solely on Portland Cement, the book also includes information on other hydraulic cementitious materials and additives because of their modern applications. Solidly researched and written, Engineered Concrete: Mix Design and Test Methods provides a clear understanding of mix design and testing of Portland Cement Concrete. As every civil engineer knows, it is the most versatile and important material of construction, and will probably remain so as far into the future as we can see.
Download or read book An Evaluation of Equipment and Procedures for Tensile Bond Testing of Concrete Repairs written by Alexander M. Vaysburd and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the durability of repaired concrete structures is a primary objective of any repair project, then every effort should be made to ensure adequate bonding between the repair and the existing concrete substrate. A total of 257 partial-depth cores in 77 experimental repairs were tested in Florida, Illinois, and Arizona in order to evaluate the effect of material properties and environmental conditions on the bond between repair and concrete substrate. Three pull-off testing devices were used to determine the bond strengths for each of the experimental repairs. In addition, the testing devices themselves were evaluated by analyzing the magnitude and relative precision of the pull-off strengths, modes of failure, and ease of use in an effort to identify a reliable and practical device for determining in situ tensile bond. The optimum depth of core drilling into the existing substrate was determined by comparing theoretical finite element analysis of failure zone stress distribution with measured test results.
