Book Written Documents in the Workplace

Download or read book Written Documents in the Workplace written by Denis Alamargot and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-01-09 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divided into three parts, the first of which provides a linguistic definition of professional documents, describing their different types and genres. This definition necessarily takes into account both the formal characteristics of these types of document (e.g. nature of linguistic units involved) and their functional goals (the way these linguistic units are used to fulfill the text’s communicative aim). The second part focuses on the mental mechanisms involved in written production in the workplace. One of the aims of a professional writer is to compose a text which can be understood. Text composition involves specific processes and strategies that can be enhanced. One way of doing this is to give the writer suitable instructions, while another is to provide him/her with a suitable writing environment. This last aspect leads us to devote the third and final section to the comprehension of written documents in the workplace. Awareness of the strategies implemented by different readers (with more or less domain expertise) in order to understand technical and professional documents can enhance the latter’s readability. *Contributions from linguists, psychologists and ergonomists from various countries ensure international scope and comprehensiveness *Bridges the gap between fundamental research into writing and reading and the issue of the efficiency of written communication in the workplace *Enables better content creation for professional writers

Book Yearbook of the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment Annuaire de la convention europ enne pour la pr vention de la torture et des peines ou traitements inhumains ou d gradants

Download or read book Yearbook of the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment Annuaire de la convention europ enne pour la pr vention de la torture et des peines ou traitements inhumains ou d gradants written by Council of Europe/Conseil de l'Europe and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 2325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment was adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in June 1987. It entered into force in February 1989 and all 47 member States are Parties to the Convention. The Convention has already established itself as an important human rights instrument. Its approach is quite different from that of the European Convention on Human Rights. Whereas the ECHR provides a remedy for particular human rights violations after the event, the Convention for the Prevention of Torture (ECPT) seeks to prevent human rights violations, through a system of visits to places of detention. The Convention is intended to be an integrated part of the Council of Europe system for the protection of human rights, placing a proactive non-judicial mechanism alongside the reactive judicial mechanism established under the ECHR. The Yearbook of the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture offers an essential annual overview of developments in relation to the ECPT. Part One contains general information. Part Two is about the European Committee for the prevention of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment (CPT). Part Three is a general report on the activities of the European Committee for the prevention of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Part Four contains reports on visits by the European Committee for the prevention of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and responses of governments. Bilingual: English and French; 2-volume set.

Book valuations nationales des acquis scolaires Volume 1

Download or read book valuations nationales des acquis scolaires Volume 1 written by Vincent Greaney and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Issues of Proof in Health Science

Download or read book Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Issues of Proof in Health Science written by Léo Coutellec and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an interdisciplinary reflection on the scientific and ethical issues of the notion of proof in medicine. The book poses the following questions: why does an argument convince? How does one make a rational decision in the face of contradictory data? Why and how can we prioritize levels of evidence? What is the value of physicians' professional experience in the production of evidence? By asking these questions, this book highlights the debates surrounding the notions of robustness, relevance and statistical significance regarding different conceptions of the reliability of biomedical knowledge. It is intended for both biomedical scientists (clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, etc.) and researchers in the social sciences and humanities who are interested in the social organization of clinical trials and in decision-making in a context of uncertainty. It also provides a better understanding of social issues in specific contexts, such as gynecological care, prevention policies, significance tests, and the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
