Book Dealing with Europe

Download or read book Dealing with Europe written by Alasdair Blair and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1999. This book provides a detailed analysis of the positions and strategies adopted by Britain during the 1990-91 Intergovernmental Conference which concluded in the Maastricht Treaty on European Union. The main focus is on the questions of British policy coordination and the factors which determined the government’s position during the negotiations on European Political Union and European Monetary Union. This is the first major study which reconstructs the mechanisms of British policy making and notes the internal and external factors which shaped the construction of the government’s position on the major points of the negotiations. The hypothesis of the book is that domestic politics, primarily through the Prime Minister’s aim to maintain the unity of the Conservative Party, was the determining factor in shaping government policy. This view is based upon micro-level empirical analysis undertaken through a methodological approach of historical interpretation.

Book Visions and Strategies in European Integration

Download or read book Visions and Strategies in European Integration written by Lars Lundqvist and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first years of the 90s have witnessed thorough political and economic changes in northern Europe. The long period of strong political separation between east and west and the less strong economic separation between the northern and southern sides of the Baltic Sea seemed to be replaced by far-reaching integration. There is no doubt that further integration will have additional impacts on the regional patterns in northern Europe. The amplitude and composition of these changes are difficult to project. In this volume a number of scholars in regional science and related disciplines (geography, economics, environmental and political sciences, planning) have brought together important material on the current processes that reshapes northern Europe. Visions andstrategies on local, national and supranational levels are penetrated in depth. A "mosaic" vision of the regional development pattern emerges highlighting the importance of cooperative and competitive strategies affecting the local conditions of European regions.

Book Globalization and Regionalization

Download or read book Globalization and Regionalization written by Peter J. Buckley and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization and Regionalization: Strategies, Policies, and Their Economic Environment puts you on top of the world, with the big picture of global trade and rapid business internationalization at your feet. You’ll see how the two opposing market forces, globalization and regionalization, have created a new international trade environment. In addition, you’ll see how the recent upsurge in preferential trading arrangements, the new technologies adapted by firms, and the foreign direct investment (FDI) and trade policies of countries and blocs have combined to dramatically change how and why international business is conducted. Globalization and Regionalization is just what it says it is--a guide to understanding the strategies and policies that countries and firms employ to prosper in an international business environment in which globalization and regionalization seem to act as opposing forces. In this unique volume, you’ll discover how some of the top competing business scholars in the world see the way that regionalization and globalization can function as complements to each other, actually becoming the building blocks that lead to global strategies. Specifically, this book gives you world-class information about: how to evaluate trade creation and trade diversion at the country level the dynamics of optimal entry strategy for multinational enterprises (MNEs) the effects of differences between countries’competition policies on cross border mergers and acquisitions the internationalization of services through international banking strategy how an open door policy allows China to play an important role in the recrudescence of globalization Vietnam as host to foreign business activity Globalization and Regionalization is the collective and international result of the World Conference on Globalization and Regionalization at the University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne. If you’re an educator, international business director, scholar of international studies, or entrepreneur, you’ll definitely want to get the information that was presented at this important international venue. Overall, this collection will give you a clearer picture of the current direction of international trade in today’s rapidly shifting and progressive global trade environment.

Book Industrial Organization in the European Union

Download or read book Industrial Organization in the European Union written by Stephen Davies and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book fills an important gap in our knowledge of the organization of EU manufacturing industry. At the empirical level, it draws on a newly constructed micro-level database (the European market share matrix) to present the first ever comprehensive picture of the concentration, integration, multinationality, and diversification of EU industry and firms. However, its purpose is not primarily descriptive. At the theoretical level, it develops a new way of integrating the insights of international trade, industrial organization, international business, and corporate strategy. A central thesis is that by understanding the reasons for the industrial structure we observe, much can be understood about the underlying competitive process that generated this structure in the context of current European integration. In this, RandD, advertising, and government intervention each play important and pervasive roles. The insights from an econometric analysis of the various dimensions of industrial structure are applied to address policy-relevant questions such as: is the industrial organization of the member states integrated at the EU level? Are diversification and multinationality random, or do they follow an industrial logic? Which industries and firms pose the most serious potential problems for competition policy? How do the largest EU firms achieve their size? Do certain member states dominate the ownership or location of production?
