Download or read book Creating Experiential Learning Opportunities for Language Learners written by Melanie Bloom and published by Multilingual Matters. This book was released on 2017-03-08 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While much research has been done on experiential learning opportunities in study abroad settings, there are fewer publications devoted to experiential learning in the domestic context. This volume aims to fill that gap by providing a collection of chapters highlighting research-based innovations in experiential learning in domestic settings. The book focuses on three experiential learning contexts: community engagement experiences, professional engagement experiences and other unique experiential contexts such as language camps and houses. The collection focuses on the US context but the research projects and curricular innovations described here can serve as models for educators working in other local contexts and will encourage interested practitioners to explore experiential learning opportunities in their local areas. It will also provide the reader with a better understanding of this growing field of inquiry and should appeal to graduate students and researchers who are interested in experiential language learning.
Download or read book Negotiating Identities Language and Migration in Global London written by Cangbai Wang and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2024-01-16 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the transnational practices of migrant groups in global London, illustrating the complex relations between migrants and the city in the context of globalisation. The chapters offer a starting point to examine migrants and the city from a comparative perspective by bringing together case studies of diverse migrant communities. They use ‘languaging’ as the central concept in the development of an interdisciplinary framework that creates an opportunity to ‘talk across disciplines’ to engage with key issues crisscrossing migration, cities and language. The book promotes ‘language-based’ or ‘language-sensitive’ research, drawing on the plurilingual repertoires and the language and translanguaging practices of migrant communities as the tool for data collection and ethnographic fieldwork. This approach generates fresh insights into the complex issues of diasporic identities, belonging and place-making, which have broad implications for migration studies in post-Brexit Britain and beyond.

Download or read book Balancing Student Mobility Rights and National Higher Education Autonomy in the European Union written by Alexander Hoogenboom and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally viewed as a positive phenomenon, student mobility has recently come under critical scrutiny as a result of the financial crisis pushing European solidarity to its breaking point, and the fear of excessive EU incursion into the autonomy of Member States with respect to their higher education systems. In Balancing Student Mobility Rights and National Higher Education Autonomy in the European Union, Alexander Hoogenboom contributes to the ongoing and evolving debate from a legal perspective. The book offers recommendations with a view to reconcile the mobility rights of Union citizens for study purposes and the need to respect Member State autonomy in the organisation of their higher education systems. The argument made suggests rethinking established principles in EU free movement law while encouraging greater EU involvement in student funding opportunities.

Download or read book RST 12 written by Académie des sciences, and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2000 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
