Book excerpt: L'arc électrique est utilisé comme source d'énergie dans de nombreux procédés industriels comme la soudure ou la découpe de matériaux métalliques. Dans la plupart de ces applications, la connaissance et la quantification du transfert d'énergie entre le plasma d'arc et les divers constituants du système sont primordiales en vue de mieux contrôler et d'optimiser les procédés. Deux approches complémentaires peuvent être utilisées pour ces études : la modélisation et les mesures expérimentales. Ces travaux de thèses ont consisté à réaliser des mesures sur différentes configurations d'arc transféré avec deux objectifs : le premier d'étudier et de caractériser en fonction du temps l'interaction de l'arc avec les électrodes et les matériaux avoisinants, le second de fournir des jeux de données les plus complets possibles afin de pouvoir valider les modèles. Le transfert d'énergie plasma-électrode est quantifié à partir d'une approche inverse développée en tenant compte de l'aspect temporel. Les mesures expérimentales couplées à ces méthodes ont permis d'obtenir la part d'énergie transférée aux électrodes. Des mesures spectroscopiques ont été effectuées en complément au niveau du plasma pour le caractériser et d'établir ainsi un bilan global de l'énergie mise en jeu.
