Book excerpt: Cette thèse porte sur l'interaction de l'hydrogène avec des couches de carbone amorphe hydrogéné (a-C:H) dans le cadre du dépôt de ces couches à basse pression dans les réacteurs plasma RCE. Dans ce type de décharge en plasma d'acétylène comme en plasma de méthane à temps de résidence élevé, il se forme des poudres dans le volume du réacteur. Ces nanoparticules en s'incorporant dans le dépôt, lui confère des propriétés optiques, mécaniques ou biologiques interéssantes selon les conditions experimentales du dépôt. Dans ce travail, nous nous sommes interéssés plus particulièrement au mécanisme de l'érosion du dépôt a-C:H par l'hydrogène car il produit les précurseurs de la formation de poudres. Dans ce travail de thèse, l'érosion a été étudiée en post-décharge en fonction de la température et du flux d'hydrogène. Nous avons mis en évidence l'établissement d'un régime permanent précédé d'un régime transitoire qui diminu en augmentant la température ou le flux d'hydrogène. L'étude de l'érosion a également été effectuée en utilisant des outils de diagnostic du matériau tels que l'ellipsométrie spectroscopique et la spectroscopie FTIR pour caractériser de manière qualitative la modification des couches a-C:H soumises à un flux d'hydrogène. Ceci a permis de mettre en évidence une modification de la couche sur une faible épaisseur et l'hydrogénation préferentielle des liaisons sp2 de la couche. Les espèces volatiles produites par érosion des couches a-C:H ont été identifiées en utilisant la spectrométrie de masse et la méthode des potentiels d'apparition près du seuil. Les résultats ont montré que le radical méthyle est le produit principal de l'érosion avec des espèces lourdes mais pas d'acétylène. L'érosion a également été étudiée en plasma de H2 et de CH4 en utilisant la spectrométrie de masse et la sonde de Langmuir. La production de l'acétylène dans les deux cas montre que l'interaction de l'hydrogène avec le dépôt a-C:H aux parois forme des espèces qui peuvent se dissocier dans le plasma et former l'acétylène. En effet, en plasma de méthane à temps de résidence élevé, l'érosion par les atomes d'hydrogène du dépôt en cours de croissance sur les parois du réacteur produit des espèces volatiles CxHy. De retour dans la décharge, les espèces C2 peuvent être dissociées et former de l'acétylène en quantité suffisante. L'acétylène est à l'origine des ions négatifs C2H- qui subissent l'influence du champ magnétique de la source RCE. Ceci leur permet d'augmenter leur probabilité de recombinaison en volume (nucléation, aggrégation, coalescence..) conduisant à la formation de poudres carbonées.

Book excerpt: Ce travail vise a explorer la possibilite d'integrer des objets moleculaires et certains semi-conducteurs usuels en micro-electronique, au sein de dispositifs robustes et stables, soit a l'air soit en milieu aqueux. L'originalite de ce travail reside dans le choix du type de substrat (carbone amorphe) et la complementarite des procedes de greffage que nous avons mis en uvre. Le principal apport experimental de ce travail est la realisation d'un systeme d'evaporation de molecules dans un bati ultravide permettant le greffage des molecules dans des conditions de proprete optimales, ainsi que la caracterisation par XPS in situ des surfaces avant et apres greffage. Nous avons montre que le greffage en phase vapeur peut-etre realise a 230 C sans hydrogenation et sans preparation prealable de la surface du carbone amorphe. La reflectivite de rayons X et les mesures XPS montrent l'assemblage d'une monocouche moleculaire, dont la robustesse a ete etablie par des recuits thermiques sous ultravide. Des caracterisations UPS et des mesures de transport electrique sur des interfaces modeles Si(111) - alcane ont permis de qualifier la qualite du greffage obtenu en phase vapeur sous ultravide.
