Book excerpt: "Eternal Sunset was developed when Son Ni was printing her book Travel _(nos:books, 2016). Challenges of aligning the layers on the Risograph presented the artist with a flickering Sun oscillating on the page. Son says, ‘Like in the story of _The Little Prince, he lives in a tiny planet, and he can watch the sunset all day long by just moving his chair’. Eternal Sunset is a poetic take of a lingering sun above the horizon, a continuous sunset in the form of a flip book." - Slow Editions

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone of us knows days when we are scared, like David, confused and rebellious, like Job, or at out wits end, like Jeremiah, asking whether God has forgotten us. Christians too often start to panic when our physical or emotional pain becomes too much and problems even our best friends don’t know about become too heavy. But, says Maretha Maartens, those feelings are temporary. We do not drown. In fact, we become increasingly like Jesus. Whatever happens, we cope, because: C: We have Christ. He is faithful. He hears and reacts to our cries for help. O: The O refl ects the lowest point, the Oh! of our lament. It reminds us of the times we found ourselves in the depths of despair, but also that God has brought us back to to the light. P: Although we experience times of Panic, Problems and Pain, we have a Passover Lamb, a Person to whom we can go with our problems. E: We have God’s Eternal promises, and He has made an Eternal covenant with us.

Book Well Being

  • Author : Neera K. Badhwar
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2014-06-02
  • ISBN : 0199717338

Download or read book Well Being written by Neera K. Badhwar and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-06-02 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new argument for the ancient claim that well-being as the highest prudential good -- eudaimonia --consists of happiness in a virtuous life. The argument takes into account recent work on happiness, well-being, and virtue, and defends a neo-Aristotelian conception of virtue as an integrated intellectual-emotional disposition that is limited in both scope and stability. This conception of virtue is argued to be widely held and compatible with social and cognitive psychology. The main argument of the book is as follows: (i) the concept of well-being as the highest prudential good is internally coherent and widely held; (ii) well-being thus conceived requires an objectively worthwhile life; (iii) in turn, such a life requires autonomy and reality-orientation, i.e., a disposition to think for oneself, seek truth or understanding about important aspects of one's own life and human life in general, and act on this understanding when circumstances permit; (iv) to the extent that someone is successful in achieving understanding and acting on it, she is realistic, and to the extent that she is realistic, she is virtuous; (v) hence, well-being as the highest prudential good requires virtue. But complete virtue is impossible for both psychological and epistemic reasons, and this is one reason why complete well-being is impossible.

It ranges from the fantastically realistic and dramatically symbolistic areas of the mind- intermixed with ideas of existentialism and depression- to the most morbid and macabre feelings from the back of all of humanity's mind. The Eternal Sunset is a book of sorrow and hopes published in nearly chronological sequence. Because of Walker's urge to use poetry to express his innermost pains and thoughts, it is a raw emotional journey detailing a year and a half of love, heartbreak, and anxiety crashing down on him as expressed through the deeply symbolistic and intriguing poems. It also contains several short stories of his that range from brutally dark horror stories to those dealing with love and death.

Book John Muir

Download or read book John Muir written by Rod Miller and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2013-05-28 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1849, 11-year-old John Muir immigrated from Scotland to America. Here, he rose from farmer and sawmill worker to become a noted authority on the botany, glaciers, and forestry of the nation's wilderness. Best known for his long association with the Yosemite Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, Muir also explored, mostly afoot, the southern States, Alaska, the Great Basin, and the Mojave Desert. His studies of nature took him around the world and generated volumes of poetic, evocative writings. As America expanded relentlessly westward, Muir witnessed the plunder and exploitation of the land and became a driving force in efforts to protect the natural world. A modest and private man, married and father of two doting daughters, his conservationist views forced him into battle with powerful political and industrial interests. Some battles he won, influencing four US Presidents to sponsor legislation that protected forests and established or expanded America's national parks. Muir lost his last, and perhaps most personal battle. He fought until near the end of his life to prevent the Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park from becoming a reservoir for the city of San Francisco. Some of his conservationsist friends believed the conflict so sapped his physical, emotional, and spiritual strength that it contributed to his death. Remembered as the founder of the Sierra Club, father of America's conservation movement, and architect of a still growing wilderness ethic, Muir set an example many still follow, fighting today's threats to the environment.
