Download or read book Eternal Love written by Lolita L. Jardeleza and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-01-29 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great love stories in history and fiction often somehow ended in tragedy or loss, which Lolita Jardeleza always thought was sad. Why were there no stories of great romances between ordinary, everyday people who married each other, raised children, paid mortgages, had spats, became grandparents--even great-grandparents--had arthritis, and used walkers? Romances lived and loved in "normal lives" are the real ones. These loves didn't go up like a burst of fireworks but burned on like stars, year after year, unabated, soul-satisfying, deliciously nourishing, and mind-blowing day after day. Jardeleza offers hers as proof.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 63 Sermons 3545-3561 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to publish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often, we hear people say that all religions should be forbidden, because they only bring misery. These reactions are understandable when we see or hear the daily news. But where does all this misery come from? Is it because former religious leaders pursued self-interest too much, instead of the Christian faith from the source? Or is it our indifferent attitude, that offers negative forces a free path? To find the answer, we must go back to our source of life, to the reason for our earthly existence. It teaches us, that what we call religion, is the development of a spiritual consciousness, to elevate the human soul, the very self. And that the words of our Creator do not stop on the last page of the bible. He has sent us His New Revelations to encourage us and to find our way home again, to the House of our Eternal Loving Father. Whoever reads the book may realize how important it is to ask yourself life questions. How you can give substance to your earthly existence. That this book may help you on your way to find your purpose in your life’s journey.
Download or read book Learning Messiah written by Edjan Westerman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Israel’s election, calling, and history make up a big part of Scripture. It could be said that they belong to the “DNA of the Bible.” But why is it then that the Christian narrative about the Messiah, Israel, and the nations, often seemed to have and sometimes even still has a different “genetic structure”? Does Israel—together with its election and promises—leave God’s stage through a side door, when Jesus appears on stage? Does a changing of roles take place, within a different story? Does the Messiah function within it as some kind of “black hole” in which the eternal election and calling of Israel disappear? How do we read God’s way? The Holocaust made us realize that our de-Jew-ized reading and preaching of Scripture contributed in various ways to this catastrophe. And we find ourselves confronted by the question: How does the narrative of the Bible then look when the whole of Scripture plays a decisive role, and the faithfulness of God toward Israel stays in the center? This book presents an answer to these questions, calling us to learn to read God’s way anew, and to walk in it.
