This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1992, this is the second of two volumes on recent advances in the field of hydraulic and environmental modelling, with invited and refereed contributions from an international group of engineers, scientists and planners involved in application, research and development. It covers the estuarine and river waters with parts devoted to: flow processes; flow modelling; salinity intrusion modelling; water quality modelling; sediment transport modelling; expert systems. The first volume covers coastal waters. With the continually increasing interest in the development and application of numerical hydraulic models, their value is especially evident as tools of design and management for flow, pollutant and sediment transport simulation studies in various environments. The readership includes practising engineers and scientists in the water industry, consulting engineers, water companies and the NRA and other government departments, university and polytechnic libraries, staff and students and all other members of the water engineering profession.

Book Coastal and Estuarine Processes

Download or read book Coastal and Estuarine Processes written by Peter Nielsen and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2009-04-21 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers water waves, surf zone hydrodynamics, tides in oceans and estuaries, storm surges, estuarine mixing, basic sediment transport, coastal morphodynamics and coastal groundwater dynamics. It is an introductory treatment, suitable for a first course in coastal and estuarine processes for earth scientists or engineers. Yet, there are substantial amounts of new material that are included, such as the explicit, analytical treatment of transient, forced long waves. Inclusion of this material will in turn strongly enhance the introductory treatment of tsunami, storm surges and surf beat. The treatment of sine wave theory emphasizes expressions which are explicit in the water depth h (using koh instead of kh) so that they can easily be differentiated or integrated with respect to h. This is a major pedagogical advantage because of the enhanced transparency. The treatment of turbulent mixing includes finite mixing length effects which provide an explanation for differential diffusion of different sediment sizes in suspension. The effects of acceleration skewness and boundary layer streaming are also included in the basic sediment transport models. The inclusion of beach groundwater dynamics — including the mechanisms by which waves as well as tides drive groundwater motion — provides a link between the previously unconnected fields of coastal hydraulics and regional groundwater modeling. Serving as a good reference book, it is fully indexed and comprehensively cross referenced. Abundant references to more detailed texts are also provided.

Book Hydraulic and Environmental Modelling

Download or read book Hydraulic and Environmental Modelling written by R.A. Falconer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1992, this wide-ranging volume features 44 articles from 89 contributors on issues of and solutions to modelling of coastal waters around the world in response to an increasing interest in the development and application of numerical hydraulic models as design and management tools. The contributors advise on areas including tidal current modelling, water quality modelling, sediment transport modelling, wave kinematics and computational methods, along with two keynote articles. The main aim of the conference and its resulting volume was to provide a forum whereby engineers, scientists and planners involved in multi-disciplinary models could collaborate and share their expertise. The counterpart to this book is Hydraulic and Environmental Modelling: Estuarine and River Waters.

Book Fluvial Environmental and Coastal Developments in Hydraulic Engineering

Download or read book Fluvial Environmental and Coastal Developments in Hydraulic Engineering written by Michele Mossa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-08-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprising the Proceedings of the International Workshop on State-of-the-Art Hydraulic Engineering held in Bari, Italy on 16-19 February 2004, this volume presents an in-depth investigation of the energy loss of skimming flows under a range of discharges, step and dam heights, and channel slopes. Including a wealth of information, the volume is divided into the following key sections: air-water flows and transitional flows; stepped chute and transitional flows; environmental and coastal hydraulics with dispersion in estuaries and jets; and transitional flows. Fluvial, Environmental and Coastal Developments in Hydraulic Engineering constitutes a comprehensive and systematic analysis of topics, including certain findings and discussions which are virtually unprecedented in hydraulic literature. As such, the volume is undoubtedly an important one, and will prove to be of particular interest to scientists and students of hydraulics and fluid mechanics, engineers, and specialists in the field of environmental protection.
