Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this publication is to place in the hands of the user derived estimates of some statistical parameters of wind distributions over the Northern Hemisphere. Some of the uses of these derived parameters are discussed in the referenced papers and therefore are not repeated here.
Download or read book Design Wave Information for the Great Lakes written by Donald T. Resio and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains hindcast wave information that is applicable to many planning and design purposes on Lake Huron. Historical wind data from stations along Lake Huron served as input to the numerical hindcast model, and significant wave heights were calculated for 5-, 10-, 20-, 50-, and 100-yr return periods. These results are provided in tabular form for 28 points along the Lake Huron shoreline. The mean significant period for each of these wave heights is also given. Information is provided for four seasons of the year (January-March, April-June, July-September, and October-December) and is separated into three approach directions relative to shore. (Author).

This book was released on 2006-03-09 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second International Symposium on the East African Lakes was held from 10-15 January 2000 at Club Makokola on the southern shore of Lake Malawi. The symposium was organized by the International Decade for the East African Lakes (IDEAL), a research consortium of African, European and North American scientists interested in promoting the investigations of African Great Lakes as archives of environmental and climatic dynamics. Over one hundred African, European and North American scientists with special expertise in the tropical lakes participated in the symposium which featured compelling presentations on the limnology, climatology, palaeoclimatology and biodiversity of the East African Lakes. It is their papers that comprise this book. The large lakes of East Africa are important natural resources that are heavily utilized by their bordering countries for transportation, water supply, fisheries, waste disposal, recreation and tourism. The lakes are unique in many ways: they are sensitive to climatic change and their circulation dynamics, water-column chemistry and biological complexity differ significantly from large lakes at higher latitudes; they have long, continuous, high resolution records of past climatic change; and they have rich and diverse populations of endemic organisms. These unique properties and the significance of the palaeolimnological records demand and attract research interest from around the world.

Download or read book Remote Sensing of Atmospheric Conditions for Wind Energy Applications written by Charlotte Bay Hasager and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-05-24 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue “Atmospheric Conditions for Wind Energy Applications” hosts papers on aspects of remote sensing for atmospheric conditions for wind energy applications. Wind lidar technology is presented from a theoretical view on the coherent focused Doppler lidar principles. Furthermore, wind lidar for applied use for wind turbine control, wind farm wake, and gust characterizations is presented, as well as methods to reduce uncertainty when using lidar in complex terrain. Wind lidar observations are used to validate numerical model results. Wind Doppler lidar mounted on aircraft used for observing winds in hurricane conditions and Doppler radar on the ground used for very short-term wind forecasting are presented. For the offshore environment, floating lidar data processing is presented as well as an experiment with wind-profiling lidar on a ferry for model validation. Assessments of wind resources in the coastal zone using wind-profiling lidar and global wind maps using satellite data are presented.
