Book Estimation of the Ratio of Scale Parameters in the Two Sample Problem with Arbitrary Right Censorship

Download or read book Estimation of the Ratio of Scale Parameters in the Two Sample Problem with Arbitrary Right Censorship written by W. J. Padgett and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A two-sample version of the Cramer-von Mises statistic for right censored observations is used to obtain an estimator of the ratio of scale parameters of two distributions. It is shown that this estimator is consistent. For small samples, simulations are performed which show the superiority of the estimator over the maximum likelihood estimator for exponential distributions. (Author).

Book excerpt: The year 2001 marks the centenary of Biometrika, one of the world's leading academic journals in statistical theory and methodology. In celebration of this, the book brings together two sets of papers from the journal. The first comprises seven specially commissioned articles (authors: D.R. Cox, A.C. Davison, Anthony C. Atkinson and R.A. Bailey, David Oakes, Peter Hall, T.M.F. Smith, and Howell Tong). These articles review the history of the journal and the most important contributions made by appearing in the journal in a number of important areas of statitisical activity, including general theory and methodology, surveys and time sets. In the process the papers describe the general development of statistical science during the twentieth century. The second group of ten papers are a selection of particularly seminal articles form the journal's first hundred years. The book opens with an introduction by the editors Professor D.M. Titterington and Sir David Cox.

Book Reliability Theory and Models

Download or read book Reliability Theory and Models written by Mohamed Abdel-Hameed and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliability Theory and Models: Stochastic Failure Models, Optimal Maintenance Policies, Life Testing, and Structures contains the proceedings of a Symposium on Stochastic Failure Models, Replacement and Maintenance Policies, and Accelerated Life Testing, held in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 24-26, 1983. Contributors discuss the directions for research on stochastic failure models and maintenance and replacement policies, as well as statistical and computational aspects of reliability. This text is divided into five sections and is comprised of 17 chapters; the first of which introduces the reader to Markov and semi-Markov models of deterioration in light of the results on representation and characterization of Markov processes. The discussion then turns to the concept of minimal repair; situations in which the appropriate stochastic process is a damage or wear process; and optimum policies for several maintenance models based on the imperfect repair model of Brown and Proschan. The chapters that follow explore optimal replacement for self-repairing shock models; the implementation of an iterative scheme for certain Markovian wear/damage models; and a Markov decision model for determining the optimal inventories of repairable spare parts for redundant systems. This book also considers the reliability and maintenance of very large complex systems from the perspective of the U.S. Air Force. This reference material will be of interest to students and active researchers in the fields of mathematics and engineering.

Book Environmental Statistics

Download or read book Environmental Statistics written by G.P. Patil and published by . This book was released on 1994-02-23 with total page 952 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of what environmental statistics is about is particularly important when it comes to the formulation of relevant research and training, whether in academia, agencies, or industries. This volume aims to give a new perception on the subject with some examples that are of concern and interest today. Environmental statistics is in a take-off stage both for reasons of societal challenge and statistical opportunity, and is demanding more and more from non-traditional and innovative statistical approaches. The chapters in this volume, which are specially prepared by several outstanding professionals involved in statistics and the environment, discuss the current state of the art in diverse areas of environmental statistics. The volume provides new perspectives and problems for future research, training, policy and regulation. It will be valuable to researchers, teachers, consultants and graduate students in statistics, environmental statistics, statistical ecology, and quantitative environmental sciences in academia, industries, governmental agencies, laboratories and libraries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book offers a guide to the theory and methods of progressive censoring. In many industrial experiments involving lifetimes of machines or units, experiments have to be terminated early. Progressive Censoring first introduces progressive sampling foundations, and then discusses various properties of progressive samples. The book points out the greater efficiency gained by using this scheme instead of classical right-censoring methods.
