Download or read book Econometrics written by Badi H. Baltagi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for a first year graduate course in econometrics. However, the first six chapters have no matrix algebra and can be used in an advanced undergraduate class. This can be supplemented by some of the material in later chapters that do not require matrix algebra, like the first part of Chapter 11 on simultaneous equations and Chapter 14 on time-series analysis. This book teaches some of the basic econometric methods and the underlying assumptions behind them. Estimation, hypotheses testing and prediction are three recurrent themes in this book. Some uses of econometric methods include (i) empirical testing of economic t- ory, whether it is the permanent income consumption theory or purchasing power parity, (ii) forecasting, whether it is GNP or unemployment in the U.S. economy or future sales in the c- puter industry. (iii) Estimation of price elasticities of demand, or returns to scale in production. More importantly, econometric methods can be used to simulate the effect of policy changes like a tax increase on gasoline consumption, or a ban on advertising on cigarette consumption.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This broadly based graduate-level textbook covers the major models and statistical tools currently used in the practice of econometrics. It examines the classical, the decision theory, and the Bayesian approaches, and contains material on single equation and simultaneous equation econometric models. Includes an extensive reference list for each topic.
Download or read book Dynamic Modelling and Control of National Economies 1989 written by N.M. Christodoulakis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symposium aimed at analysing and solving the various problems of representation and analysis of decision making in economic systems starting from the level of the individual firm and ending up with the complexities of international policy coordination. The papers are grouped into subject areas such as game theory, control methods, international policy coordination and the applications of artificial intelligence and experts systems as a framework in economic modelling and control. The Symposium therefore provides a wide range of important information for those involved or interested in the planning of company and national economics.

Download or read book Econometrics 2nd Rev Ed written by Badi Hani Baltagi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference introduces the basic econometric methods and the underlying assumptions behind them. It also includes a simple and concise treatment of more advanced topics in time-series, spatial correlation, limited dependent variables and panel data models, as well as specification testing, Gauss-Newton regressions and regression diagnostics. The strengths of this book lie in presenting difficult material in a simple, yet rigorous manner. In addition, the book features a set of empirical illustrations that demonstrate some of the basic results. The empirical exercises are solved using several econometric software packages.

Download or read book Trade Currencies and Finance written by Morris Goldstein and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-03-17 with total page 771 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book includes selected papers of Morris Goldstein on the following topics in international macroeconomics: international trade, currency regimes, exchange rate policy, international policy coordination, banking, financial crises, financial regulation, IMF policies, and China's exchange rate policy. Some of the papers are empirical in nature, while others address key policy issues in international macroeconomics. Many of the papers are co-authored with other well-known international economists, including Jacob Frenkel, Mohsin Khan, Nicholas Lardy, Peter Montiel, Michael Mussa, Carmen Reinhart, and Philip Turner, among others. Taken as a group, the papers should give the reader a good picture of many of the most important issues in international macroeconomics over the past 35 years.

Download or read book The Independence Axiom and Asset Returns written by Larry G. Epstein and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper integrates models of atemporal risk preference that relax the independence axiom into a recursive intertemporal asset-pricing framework. The resulting models are amenable to empirical analysis using market data and standard Euler equation methods. We are thereby able to provide the first non-laboratory-based evidence regarding the usefulness of several new theories of risk preference for addressing standard problems in dynamic economics. Using both stock and bond returns data, we find that a model incorporating risk preferences that exhibit firstorder risk aversion accounts for significantly more of the mean and autocorrelation properties of the data than models that exhibit only second-order risk aversion. Unlike the latter class of models which require parameter estimates that are outside of the admissible parameter space, e.g., negative rates of time preference, the model with first-order risk aversion generates point estimates that are economically meaningful. We also examine the relationship between first-order risk aversion and models that employ exogenous stochastic switching processes for consumption growth.

Download or read book Practical Business Forecasting written by Michael K. Evans and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002-05-06 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stressing the concrete applications of economic forecasting, Practical Business Forecasting is accessible to a wide-range of readers, requiring only a familiarity with basic statistics. The text focuses on the use of models in forecasting, explaining how to build practical forecasting models that produce optimal results. In a clear and detailed format, the text covers estimating and forecasting with single and multi- equation models, univariate time-series modeling, and determining forecasting accuracy. Additionally, case studies throughout the book illustrate how the models are actually estimated and adjusted to generate accurate forecasts. After reading this text, students and readers should have a clearer idea of the reasoning and choices involved in building models, and a deeper foundation in estimating econometric models used in practical business forecasting.
