Each article traces developments, surveys the results of the past decade, discusses the current state of knowledge and presents major future directions and open problems. Extensive bibliographic material is provided. The book is intended to be useful both to experts in the field and to mathematicians and other scientists who wish to learn about or begin research in mathematical fluid dynamics. The Handbook illuminates an exciting subject that involves rigorous mathematical theory applied to an important physical problem, namely the motion of fluids.
Download or read book Encyclopedia of the Solar System written by Lucy-Ann McFadden and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-12-18 with total page 987 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long before Galileo published his discoveries about Jupiter, lunar craters, and the Milky Way in the Starry Messenger in 1610, people were fascinated with the planets and stars around them. That interest continues today, and scientists are making new discoveries at an astounding rate. Ancient lake beds on Mars, robotic spacecraft missions, and new definitions of planets now dominate the news. How can you take it all in? Start with the new Encyclopedia of the Solar System, Second Edition. This self-contained reference follows the trail blazed by the bestselling first edition. It provides a framework for understanding the origin and evolution of the solar system, historical discoveries, and details about planetary bodies and how they interact—and has jumped light years ahead in terms of new information and visual impact. Offering more than 50% new material, the Encyclopedia includes the latest explorations and observations, hundreds of new color digital images and illustrations, and more than 1,000 pages. It stands alone as the definitive work in this field, and will serve as a modern messenger of scientific discovery and provide a look into the future of our solar system.· Forty-seven chapters from 75+ eminent authors review fundamental topics as well as new models, theories, and discussions· Each entry is detailed and scientifically rigorous, yet accessible to undergraduate students and amateur astronomers· More than 700 full-color digital images and diagrams from current space missions and observatories amplify the chapters· Thematic chapters provide up-to-date coverage, including a discussion on the new International Astronomical Union (IAU) vote on the definition of a planet· Information is easily accessible with numerous cross-references and a full glossary and index

Download or read book Comprehensive Renewable Energy written by A. A. M. Sayigh and published by Elevier Science Publishers. This book was released on 2012 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive Renewable Energy is the only multi-volume reference work of its type at a time when renewable energy sources are seen increasingly as realistic alternatives to fossil fuels. As the majority of information published for the target audience is currently available via a wide range of journals, seeking relevant information (be that experimental, theoretical, and computational aspects of either a fundamental or applied nature) can be a time-consuming and complicated process. Comprehensive Renewable Energy is arranged according to the most important themes in the field

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Energy written by and published by Elsevier Science. This book was released on 2004-03-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years our usage and understanding of different types of energy has grown at a tremendous rate. The editor-in-chief, Cutler Cleveland, and his international team of associate editors have brought together approximately 400 authors to produce the Encyclopedia of Energy. This highly topical reference draws together all aspects of energy, covering a wealth of areas throughout the natural, social and engineering sciences. The Encyclopedia will provide easily accessible information about all aspects of energy, written by leading international authorities. It will not only be indispensible for academics, researchers, professionals and students, but also for policy makers, energy and environmental consultants, and all those working in business corporations and non-governmental organisations whose activities relate to energy and the environment. Also available online via ScienceDirect - featuring extensive browsing, searching, and internal cross-referencing between articles in the work, plus dynamic linking to journal articles and abstract databases, making navigation flexible and easy. Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Vehicle Bodies at Crosswind Conditions in Ground Proximity written by Kalman J. Grunwald and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of force tests was conducted on unpowered, high-speed ground-vehicle model configurations to provide information on shapes of this type very near the ground. Of particular interest were the crosswind effects on the aerodynamic forces and moments of the six models tested. These tests were conducted over the moving-belt ground plane in the 17-foot (5.18-m) test section of the Langley 300-MPH 7-by 10-foot tunnel at free-stream dynamic pressure values of 10 lb/ft2 (478.8 N/m2). The results indicate that the half-circle configuration is desirable because of the low rolling moments it experienced; however, it did have higher lift values than the other configurations and, from a utility standpoint, could be impractical. The half-circle configurations with extended sides may make good compromise configurations. All the ground-simulation techniques employed -moving ground belt, fixed ground belt, and image model -gave reasonable representations of the overall aerodynamic trends.
