The book deals with details of meteorological parameters and monitoring sensors which are needed for estimating evaporation and evapotranspiration. Errors in meteorological parameter measurements are also presented. Estimation errors, strengths, weaknesses and applicability of a wide range of evaporation and evapotranspiration estimation methods are presented along with samples of application to a certain region. Application of newer simpler methods is presented. A new technology, remote sensing application to evaporation and evapotranspiration estimation, is presented. The latest interest in the subject, climate change and evapotranspiration is presented in the last chapter. This book will be beneficial to students, hydrologists, engineers, meteorologists, water managers and others.
Download or read book The ASCE Standardized Reference Evapotranspiration Equation written by Rick G. Allen and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Task Committee report provides standardized equations for calculating reference evapotranspiration (ET) from weather data and procedures for quality assessment and control of weather data. The purpose of the standardized reference ET equation and calculation procedures is to bring commonality to the calculation of reference ET and to provide a standardized basis for determining or transferring crop coefficients for agriculture and landscape use. The basis of the standardized reference ET equation is the ASCE Penman-Monteith (ASCE-PM) method Manual 70. Along with applications for the ASCE-PM method, this report includes recommended calculations for vapor pressure, net radiation and wind speed adjustment, and guidelines on assessing weather data integrity and estimating values for missing data. The development of this standardized report by the Environmental and Water Resources Committee (EWRI) of ASCE, was made at the request of, and has been endorsed by, the Irrigation Association.

This book was released on 2022-10-27 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estimating evapotranspiration (ET) has been one of the most critical research areas in agriculture because of water scarcity, the growing population, and climate change. The accurate estimation and mapping of ET are necessary for crop water management. Traditionally, researchers use water balance, soil moisture, weighing lysimeters, or an energy balance approach, such as Bowen ratio or eddy covariance towers to estimate ET. However, these ET methods are point-specific or area-weighted measurements and cannot be extended to a large scale. On the other hand, while remote sensing is able to provide spatially distributed measurements, the spatial resolution of multispectral satellite images is often not enough for crops with clumped canopy structures, such as trees and vines. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can mitigate these spatial and temporal limitations. Lightweight cameras and sensors can be mounted on the UAVs and take high-resolution images. Unlike satellite imagery, the spatial resolution of the UAV images can be at the centimeter-level. UAVs can also fly on-demand, which provides high temporal imagery. This book examines the different UAV-based approaches of ET estimation. Models and algorithms, such as mapping evapotranspiration at high resolution with internalized calibration (METRIC), the two-source energy balance (TSEB) model, and machine learning (ML) are discussed. It also covers the challenges and opportunities for UAVs in ET estimation, with the final chapters devoted to new ET estimation methods and their potential applications for future research.
Download or read book Fundamentals of Evapotranspiration written by Alessia Corami and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-10-22 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Evapotranspiration aims to determine simple methods to evaluate evapotranspiration and to examine the evolution of these methods over time. It compares and contrasts best practices and discusses the opportunities for harmonization among various methods. Further, the book discusses optimal calibration of these methods in a local context, depending on particular climates and scenarios. The book serves as a practical resource for students and professionals working in agriculture, irrigation and water engineering and will aid in evaluating the methods and equations for the most efficient means of evapotranspiration. The authors examine the methods for evaluating evapotranspiration considering the evaporation from water surfaces, soil and vegetation. The authors address issues according to various regions, climates and soil types, and apply the optimal solution for each situation.

Download or read book Estimation of Evapotranspiration Rates in Irrigated Lands of the Fergana Valley using Stable Isotopes written by Gulomjon Umirzakov and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2016-03-30 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture in Uzbekistan critically depends on water resources availability, therefore crop production, especially of cotton and winter wheat, is restricted mainly to irrigated areas. As a result of water shortage under climate change, land degradation issues in the region worsened and water use efficiency has considerably decreased over the decades. Hence, it is essential to investigate water balance parameters in irrigated lands. Environmental isotopes have been widely applied in hydrological investigations, particularly estimation of evapotranspiration rate, one of the main components of the water balance in irrigated lands. This study aims to estimate evapotranspiration rates in cotton fields by applying water stable isotopes (2H and 18O). The study is based on the field experiments conducted during the vegetation periods 2010 and 2011 in the Fergana Region of Uzbekistan. Soil for isotope analysis were sampled in a sandy field, sandy loam #1 field (rich with gypsum) and sandy loam #2 field (without gypsum). The soil water from the samples was extracted by the cryogenic extraction method. δ2H and δ18O ratios of extracted water were determined using the laser spectroscopy method. Evapotranspiration rates were estimated with the isotope mass balance model. Besides evapotranspiration estimation, this study examines the variability and characteristics of stable isotope signatures of different water sources in the study region and analyzes water extraction processes from different soil types and temporal changes of isotope signatures through the depth in irrigated cotton fields.

Download or read book Evapotranspiration written by Ayse Irmak and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-01-18 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of Evapotranspiration - Remote Sensing and Modeling contains 23 chapters related to the modeling and simulation of evapotranspiration (ET) and remote sensing-based energy balance determination of ET. These areas are at the forefront of technologies that quantify the highly spatial ET from the Earth's surface. The topics describe mechanics of ET simulation from partially vegetated surfaces and stomatal conductance behavior of natural and agricultural ecosystems. Estimation methods that use weather based methods, soil water balance, the Complementary Relationship, the Hargreaves and other temperature-radiation based methods, and Fuzzy-Probabilistic calculations are described. A critical review describes methods used in hydrological models. Applications describe ET patterns in alpine catchments, under water shortage, for irrigated systems, under climate change, and for grasslands and pastures. Remote sensing based approaches include Landsat and MODIS satellite-based energy balance, and the common process models SEBAL, METRIC and S-SEBS. Recommended guidelines for applying operational satellite-based energy balance models and for overcoming common challenges are made.
