Book Base Flow Distribution

Download or read book Base Flow Distribution written by Lawton Williams Furness and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The distribution or variable occurrence of base flow has been defined at 105 sites on the streams of Kansas and adjoining areas. Methods have also been developed for estimating base flow on other streams that drain areas of 100 to 5,000 square miles. Base flow, as used in this report, is that portion of total streamflow exclusive of direct surface runoff and consists largely of ground-water contributions to the streams. Many farms, industries, and cities rely on base flow for their dependable supplies of water. Typical of streams in the mid-continent areas, the total streamflow in Kansas is essentially that of base flow during 40 to 80 percent of the days. Thus, knowledge of the distribution of base flow will help Kansans to obtain optimum benefit from water resources"--Abstract.

Book Methods for Estimating Flow Duration and Annual Mean Flow Statistics for Ungaged Streams in Oklahoma

Download or read book Methods for Estimating Flow Duration and Annual Mean Flow Statistics for Ungaged Streams in Oklahoma written by U.S. Department of the Interior and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-03-29 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flow statistics can be used to provide decision makers with surface-water information needed for activities such as water-supply permitting, flow regulation, and other water right issues. Flow statistics could be needed at any location along a stream.

Book In channel Hydraulic Geometry of Streams in Kansas

Download or read book In channel Hydraulic Geometry of Streams in Kansas written by Clarence V. Burns and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The rates of increase in a downstream direction in width, depth, and velocity of streams in Kansas are similar to those found for other streams in the Midwest. Information from 117 stream-gaging stations in Kansas and adjoining areas was used to develop the parameters to define the hydraulic geometry of the streams. Hydraulic equations written in terms of discharge were developed by least-squares regression for flows exceeded 10, 50, and 80 percent of the time and for average flow. The equations are used to predict the average width, depth, and velocity of flow for any location on streams in Kansas having drainage areas between 100 and 9,000 square miles. The average depth and velocity of flow can be used to compute the coefficient of reaeration"--Abstract.

Book Magnitude and Frequency of Floods in Kansas

Download or read book Magnitude and Frequency of Floods in Kansas written by Paul Robert Jordan and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Flood magnitudes for selected recurrence intervals for unregulated streams in Kansas were found to be related most significantly to the contributing drainage area and the 2-year 24-hour rainfall. Equations are provided for estimating flood peaks for selected recurrence intervals at ungaged sites or at gaging stations having short records. The accuracy of 100-year floods calculated frpm the equation is equivalent to the accuracy that would be obtained from about 12 years of record of flood peaks at the site"--Abstract.
