  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 174 pages

Download or read book Rodin written by Auguste Rodin and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rodin was considered the most famous sculptor of his time, not only in France but throughout Europe, America, and Australia. The expressive liberty and emotional intensity of Rodin?s figures had an enormous impact on the culture and the art of the entire twentieth century. This compact book illustrates a significant group of works which represent Rodin?s entire artistic career: sculptures, drawings, and watercolors, as well as contemporary photographs. The selection of sculpture is supplemented by outstanding drawings made by Rodin around 1900, at the height of his career. The presentation of these exciting works on paper along with the sculptures gives insight into Rodin?s working process. They also reveal a more intense and less dramatic side of his genius. The book includes contributions by Jörg Zutter, Antoinette Le Normand-Romain, Claudie Judrin, Jaynie Anderson, and Paul Paffen.

Download or read book Rodin s Art written by the late Albert E. Elsen and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-03-13 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late Albert Elsen was the first American scholar to study seriously the work of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin, and the person most responsible for a revival of interest in the artist as a modern innovator--after years during which the sculpture had been dismissed as so much Victorian bathos. After a fortuitous meeting with the financier, philanthropist, and art collector B. Gerald Cantor, Elsen helped Cantor to build up a major collection of Rodin's work. A large part of this collection, consisting of more than 200 pieces, was donated to the Stanford Museum by Mr. Cantor, who died recently. In size it is surpassed only the by the Musée Rodin in Paris and rivaled only by the collection in Philadelphia. In scope the collection is unique in having been carefully selected to present a balanced view of Rodin's work throughout his life. Rodin's Art encompasses a lifetime's thoughts on Rodin's career, surveying the artist's accomplishments through the detailed discussion of each object in the collection. It will begin with essays on the formation of the collection, the reception of Rodin's work, and his casting techniques. The entries that follow are arranged topically and include extensive discussions of Rodin's major projects.

  • Pages : 106 pages

Download or read book Auguste Rodin written by Narim Bender and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Auguste Rodin was a French sculptor, considered the progenitor of modern sculpture; but Rodin did not set out to rebel against the past. He was schooled traditionally, took a craftsman-like approach to his work, and desired academic recognition. Rodin is recognized worldwide for the exceptional authenticity of his anatomical sculptures. He strongly influenced twentieth century sculpture by his assemblage techniques and prepared the way for symbolism by adopting literary and mythological themes. It was the freedom and creativity along with his activation surfaces of sculptures through traces of his own touch and with his more open attitude toward bodily pose, sensual subject matter, and non-realistic surface – that marked Rodin's re-making of traditional 19th century sculptural techniques into the prototype for modern sculpture. Rodin's most original works departed from traditional themes of mythology and allegory, modeled the human body with realism, and celebrated individual character and physicality.

Book Delphi Complete Works of Auguste Rodin Illustrated

Download or read book Delphi Complete Works of Auguste Rodin Illustrated written by Auguste Rodin and published by Delphi Classics. This book was released on 2024-05-17 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The founder of modern sculpture, Auguste Rodin was a late nineteenth century pioneer, whose work changed the course of the history of art. His greatest achievement was the restoration of the role of ancient sculpture, showing that a modern artist could capture the physical and intellectual force of a subject, while freeing the artistic medium from the repetition of traditional patterns. Rodin’s enduing popularity is often ascribed to his emotion-laden representations of ordinary men and women and his ability to find beauty and pathos. Masterpieces such as ‘The Kiss’ and ‘The Thinker’ are widely used outside the fine arts as symbols of human emotion, transcending the sculptor’s medium and helping us to understand the fundamental essence of being a human. Book Auguste Rodin Drawings and Watercolors

Download or read book Auguste Rodin Drawings and Watercolors written by Auguste Rodin and published by Rizzoli International Publications. This book was released on 1985 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exceptional publication includes nearly 200 works, the majority of which come from the Musée Rodin in Paris. Well-produced and meticulously documented, the catalogue entries are further illuminated by scores of photographs of Rodin's celebrated sculptures (including such masterworks as the "Balzac" -- in Steichen's celebrated photograph -- the headless "Striding Man", and the disturbingly powerful "Gates of Hell") of the sculptor himself throughout his career, and many of the important personalities with whom he was intimate, such as Rainer Maria Rilke, and Count Harry Kessler. Of special interest are comparative photographs of the actual structures that accompany the famous drawings of the French cathedrals. The catalogue entries of impeccable scholarship are here interwoven with the illustrations to create a stimulating biography of a master sculptor and an unique human being. -- From publisher's description.
