Download or read book Matching with Transfers written by Pierre-André Chiappori and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few decades, matching models, which use mathematical frameworks to analyze allocation mechanisms for heterogeneous products and individuals, have attracted renewed attention in both theoretical and applied economics. These models have been used in many contexts, from labor markets to organ donations, but recent work has tended to focus on "nontransferable" cases rather than matching models with transfers. In this important book, Pierre-André Chiappori fills a gap in the literature by presenting a clear and elegant overview of matching with transfers and provides a set of tools that enable the analysis of matching patterns in equilibrium, as well as a series of extensions. He then applies these tools to the field of family economics and shows how analysis of matching patterns and of the incentives thus generated can contribute to our understanding of long-term economic trends, including inequality and the demand for higher education.
Download or read book Two Sided Matching written by Alvin E. Roth and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-06-26 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-sided matching provides a model of search processes such as those between firms and workers in labor markets or between buyers and sellers in auctions. This book gives a comprehensive account of recent results concerning the game-theoretic analysis of two-sided matching. The focus of the book is on the stability of outcomes, on the incentives that different rules of organization give to agents, and on the constraints that these incentives impose on the ways such markets can be organized. The results for this wide range of related models and matching situations help clarify which conclusions depend on particular modeling assumptions and market conditions, and which are robust over a wide range of conditions. 'This book chronicles one of the outstanding success stories of the theory of games, a story in which the authors have played a major role: the theory and practice of matching markets ... The authors are to be warmly congratulated for this fine piece of work, which is quite unique in the game-theoretic literature.' From the Foreword by Robert Aumann

Download or read book Online and Matching Based Market Design written by Federico Echenique and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-30 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rich, multi-faceted and multi-disciplinary field of matching-based market design is an active and important one due to its highly successful applications with economic and sociological impact. Its home is economics, but with intimate connections to algorithm design and operations research. With chapters contributed by over fifty top researchers from all three disciplines, this volume is unique in its breadth and depth, while still being a cohesive and unified picture of the field, suitable for the uninitiated as well as the expert. It explains the dominant ideas from computer science and economics underlying the most important results on market design and introduces the main algorithmic questions and combinatorial structures. Methodologies and applications from both the pre-Internet and post-Internet eras are covered in detail. Key chapters discuss the basic notions of efficiency, fairness and incentives, and the way market design seeks solutions guided by normative criteria borrowed from social choice theory.

Download or read book Handbook of Social Economics SET 1A 1B written by Jess Benhabib and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2011 with total page 1509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can economists define and measure social preferences and interactions? Through the use of new economic data and tools, our contributors survey an array of social interactions and decisions that typify homo economicus. Identifying economic strains in activities such as learning, group formation, discrimination, and the creation of peer dynamics, they demonstrate how they tease out social preferences from the influences of culture, familial beliefs, religion, and other forces. Advances our understanding about quantifying social interactions and the effects of culture Summarizes research on theoretical and applied economic analyses of social preferences Explores the recent willingness among economists to consider new arguments in the utility function
Download or read book Partition Function Form Games written by László Á. Kóczy and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic overview on partition function form games: a game form in cooperative game theory to integrate externalities for various applications. Cooperative game theory has been immensely useful to study a wide range of issues, but the standard approaches ignore the side effects of cooperation. Recently interest shifted to problems where externalities play the main roles such as models of cooperation in market competition or the shared use of public resources. Such problems require richer models that can explicitly evaluate the side-effects of cooperation. In partition function form games the value of cooperation depends on the outsiders' actions. A recent surge of interest driven by applications has made results very fragmented. This book offers an accessible, yet comprehensive and systematic study of properties, solutions and applications of partition function games surveying both theoretical results and their applications. It assembles a survey of existing research and smaller original results as well as original interpretations and comparisons. The book is self-contained and accessible for readers with little or no knowledge of cooperative game theory.

Download or read book Lsat The Loucas Way written by Basil R. Loucas and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My purpose in writing my book is to inform individuals interested in becoming lawyers that they must be positively sure that they are ready to enter a very disciplined world, obtain the required educational foundation that one needs to be successful in law school, and look deep within themselves to see if they have the necessary personality to be successful in their legal studies, the proper procedure to follow upon completing their bachelor of arts (BA) degree in applying to law school, and a heads-up approach on how to properly handle the reading comprehension section of the LSAT. Therefore, because I know how difficult the LSAT actually is, I am publishing my version of the reading comprehension section of the LSAT, and I am positive that the individuals who purchase my book and take it to heart and get to the task of teaching themselves the reading comprehension section of the LSAT and study each day will have a better understanding of how to properly approach this section. REMEMBER HARD WORK AND PRACTICE IS THE KEY TO BEING SUCCESSFUL. Very truly yours, Basil R. Loucas Good morning, on April 14, 2014, the e book version of my book LSAT THE LOUCAS WAY was awarded a Bronze Nominee Sticker from the 4th Annual Global E Book Awards 2014 and on August 17, 2014 it was the Bronze Medal Winner of the 2014 Global E Book Awards in the non-fiction Reference category. As I see it, LSAT THE LOUCAS WAY is a unique approach and it far exceeds anything the competition currently has to offer. As a result, it will revolutionize how an individual who wants to be an attorney should approach and complete the reading comprehension section of LSAT.
Download or read book The Stable Marriage Problem written by Dan Gusfield and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book probes the stable marriage problem and its variants as a rich source of problems and ideas that illustrate both the design and analysis of efficient algorithms. It covers the most recent structural and algorithmic work on stable matching problems, simplifies and unifies many earlier proofs, strengthens several earlier results, and presents new results and more efficient algorithms. The authors develop the structure of the set of stable matchings in the stable marriage problem in a more general and algebraic context than has been done previously; they discuss the problem's structure in terms of rings of sets, which allows many of the most useful features to be seen as features of a more general set of problems. The relationship between the structure of the stable marriage problem and the more general stable roommates problem is demonstrated, revealing many commonalities. The results the authors obtain provide an algorithmic response to the practical, and political, problems created by the asymmetry inherent in the Gale Shapley solutions, leading to alternative methods and better compromises than are provided by the Gale Shapley method. And, in contrast to Donald Knuth's earlier work which primarily focused on the application of mathematics to the analysis of algorithms, this book illustrates the productive and almost inseparable relationship between mathematical insight and the design of efficient algorithms.Dan Gusfield is Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Davis. Robert W. Irving is Senior Lecturer in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow. The Stable Marriage Problem is included in the Foundations of Computing Series, edited by Michael Garey and Albert Meyer.
