Book Essays in International Trade and Public Economics

Download or read book Essays in International Trade and Public Economics written by Margarita M. Kalamova and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2012 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays of this book are contributions to the empirical Literature in International Trade and Public Economics. They deal with the relationship between the structure and quality of the public sector and the process of economic integration. Two of the essays add to the empirical determinants of trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) and to the numerous applications of the theory of government decentralization. Decentralization tends to discourage inward FDI and domestic trade and to increase imports and exports. A third essay focuses on the effect of governments' intangible assets - such as consumer perceptions about countries and products from these countries - on FDI. A country's nation brand is shown to have a significant and large positive effect on investment flows.

This book was released on 2006-06-13 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world unbalanced by extensive poverty, divided by conflicting interests and contrasting moral traditions, and vulnerable to environmental degradation, what difference can international businesses make? This book of essays addresses this urgent concern from a number of angles.Three initial essays consider ways of arriving at common ethical positions while still respecting diverse local cultural traditions. The next set of essays examines the emergence of morally responsible business practices in globally diverse contexts, particularly in developing areas. While considering the inherent tensions between moral ideals and contingent realities, the last set of essays discuss topics such as the transfer of technologies and the reduction of poverty where responsible practices are still being debated.

Book Trends in World Trade

Download or read book Trends in World Trade written by Alan S. Alexandroff and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the critical issues facing the global trading system today. As the title suggests, Trends in World Trade honors one of the world's great trade policy experts -- Sylvia Ostry. Sylvia is recognized as one of the quintessential trade and investment experts whose career spans public and academic service in Canada. The issues addressed represent central questions in the development of the international economy. This book covers, among other things, institutional concerns such as the adequacy of World Trade Organization governance and its growing judicialization. Trends in World Trade examines the consequences for the global economy of China's admittance to the WTO. It also examines the consequences of continuing system friction -- one of Sylvia Ostry's many contributions to our understanding of global trade relations. The contributors tackle global trade challenges from transparency to the matter of coherence, and from agricultural subsidies to the challenges of global investment. This volume also looks at the impact of international trade, finance and investment on states and their societies. Students of trade, trade experts, practitioners, and trade officials will find this volume a must-read for a better understanding of the trends in the global trade regime. This book is part of the Studies on Globalization and Society Series, edited by Raj Bhala, Rice Distinguished Professor, The University of Kansas School of Law.

Book The Selected Essays of John H Dunning

Download or read book The Selected Essays of John H Dunning written by John H. Dunning and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes should be required reading for anyone with an interest in international business and globalisation. They add immeasurably to our understanding. Mira Wilkins, Business History Dunning is one of the most prominent researchers and thinkers in the IB field. In these books, he has set out his most celebrated writings and has provided us relatively easy access to widely scattered references in the literature. Rajat Kathuria, Global Business Review The modern academic study of the multinational enterprise started with John Dunning s pioneering study of American Investment in British Manufacturing Industry in 1958. In the early 1970s he began to publish an influential and authoritative stream of papers integrating theoretical and empirical analysis of the multinational enterprise. This fascinating volume charts the evolution of John Dunning s thinking, highlighting his attempts to develop a richer, more dynamic and historical framework for the analysis of the multinational enterprise. It makes compelling reading, and offers unique insights into the intellectual development of his well-known eclectic paradigm of international production. Mark Casson, University of Reading, UK This volume contains a selection of John Dunning s best known and highly acclaimed writings on the theory of international business activity. Spanning more than three decades, the 16 contributions trace the evolution of his thoughts and ideas as an economist, from his first article on the determinants of international production, published in 1973, to his most recent essay on relational assets, networks and global business activity, completed in 2002. Theories and Paradigms of International Business Activity gives particular prominence to the author s much renowned eclectic paradigm, which he first promulgated at a Nobel Symposium on the international allocation of economic activity in 1976. Since then, the author has written over 60 articles, pamphlets and chapters in books which have extended, refined and updated his theorizing on the interface between trade, FDI and MNE activity, in the light of the changing characteristics of the world economy and advances in international business scholarship. This, the first of two volumes of John Dunning s work, is essential reading for all students, scholars and researchers with a special interest in the reasons behind the explosive growth in post-war FDI and the globalization of business activity.
