Download or read book Public Policy Research in the Global South written by Heike M. Grimm and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the evolution of public policy and the role of agenda setting with regard to policymaking in countries of the Global South. The authors illustrate the emergence of public policy research as an academic discipline, and highlight various aspects of history, governance, politics, and economics as components of public policy theory development. By offering a cross-national perspective, the papers contribute to a better understanding of when, how, and by whom a given policy agenda is designed, which is essential to grasping how policy is implemented. In turn, the authors investigate how the development of public policy research has influenced policymaking in fields such as democratization, migration, corruption, agriculture, environment, education, and entrepreneurship and, more specifically, agenda setting in selected countries of the Global South.

Book Between Persecution and Participation

Download or read book Between Persecution and Participation written by Annegret Schüle and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2018-10-29 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a crushingly ordinary man who had the misfortune to live in the first two-thirds of the twentieth century. The son of a baptized Jewish father and a Protestant mother, Willy Wiemokli (1908–1983) was declared a half-Jew by the laws of the Third Reich, and because of this, he and his father were briefly interned in Buchenwald. Although his father was eventually executed in Auschwitz in 1943, Willy went on to become an accountant for J. A. Topf & Söhne, the manufacturer of the ovens used in the death of his father as well as thousands of others in concentration camps. Persecuted by the Nazis, he also participated, minimally, in the Nazi-led genocide. This paradox and Willy’s liminal status gives his fascinating biography historical significance, adding a new dimension to our understanding of what the Nazi race policies meant to ordinary Germans. In this brief telling of an otherwise average man’s life, Schüle and Sowade reveal the pervasive and long-term effect of the race laws. Based solely on archival records, Willy’s story gives insight into the muddled and impossible choices of vulnerable individuals living under the Third Reich and the blurred boundaries between victim, bystander, and accomplice.

Book Technology Education Innovation and Management

Download or read book Technology Education Innovation and Management written by Kati Langer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing the interface between humans and technology involves the strategic question of how to connect innovation in teaching with the creation of value. Originating from an international conference on technology education, innovation and management, this book provides a focused overview of theoretical findings on this topic as well as starting points for practical work. It not only displays the existing level of international agreement, but also demonstrates a commitment to further development of technology education. For example, parallels between teaching innovation and the work situation in smaller firms point to a general trend toward linking value creation and education. The book presents theory and practice clearly arranged with diagrams, figures and tables.
