Download or read book Revelations Revealed written by Wallace Richardson and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2009-03 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cover photo was taken on a stormy day in San Francisco as the Sun broke through the clouds. A prism lens was placed over the camera lens to pick up the rays of the Sun, breaking down the light into its' seven basic colors. Placing a photo of "Jesus in the clouds," as an overlay to the ocean scene, made a composite. No attempt was made to fool the reader. Together they depict much of what the book of Revelations is about, and how it deeply ties in with the life and Resurrection. Wally Richardson has been diligently searching for many years to find answers to who we are, why we are here, and where we are going. A veteran of World War Two and the Korean War, as a fighter pilot, he was able to experience many situations that would otherwise not have come his way. In doing so, much soul-searching brought him to the awareness that we are not alone in our sojourns, but are being guided each step of the way, as long as we can learn to listen to the voice within. Wally has written two other books, along with his lovely wife, Jenny Lynn and their contemporary, Lenore Huett. Excerpts from both, The Path to Illumination and The Spiritual Value of Gemstones are included within this book.

Download or read book Representing Religious Pluralization in Early Modern Europe written by Andreas Höfele and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2007 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this volume indicates more than a referential relationship: Representing Religious Pluralization entails not just the various ways in which the historical processes of pluralization were reflected in texts and other cultural artefacts, but also, crucially, the cultural work that spawned these processes. Reflecting, driving, shaping and subverting religious systems, representation becomes a divisive force in Reformation Europe as religious pluralization erupts in a contest over how to conceive, to symbolize and to perform religious belief. The essays in this book offer a broad range of perspectives on the pluralizing effects of cultural representation as well as on the various attempts at containing them.
Download or read book Early American Proverbs and Proverbial Phrases written by Bartlett Jere Whiting and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1977 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: p.B. J. Whiting savors proverbial expressions and has devoted much of his lifetime to studying and collecting them; no one knows more about British and American proverbs than he. The present volume, based upon writings in British North America from the earliest settlements to approximately 1820, complements his and Archer Taylor's Dictionary of American Proverbs and Proverbial Phrases, 1820-1880. It differs from that work and from other standard collections, however, in that its sources are primarily not "literary" but instead workaday writings - letters, diaries, histories, travel books, political pamphlets, and the like. The authors represent a wide cross-section of the populace, from scholars and statesmen to farmers, shopkeepers, sailors, and hunters. Mr. Whiting has combed all the obvious sources and hundreds of out-of-the-way publications of local journals and historical societies. This body of material, "because it covers territory that has not been extracted and compiled in a scholarly way before, can justly be said to be the most valuable of all those that Whiting has brought together," according to Albert B. Friedman. "What makes the work important is Whiting's authority: a proverb or proverbial phrase is what BJW thinks is a proverb or proverbial phrase. There is no objective operative definition of any value, no divining rod; his tact, 'feel, ' experience, determine what's the real thing and what is spurious."

Download or read book Shakespeare in French Theory written by Richard Wilson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-25 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when the relevance of literary theory itself is frequently being questioned, Richard Wilson makes a compelling case for French Theory in Shakespeare Studies. Written in two parts, the first half looks at how French theorists such as Bourdieu, Cixous, Deleuze, Derrida and Foucault were themselves shaped by reading Shakespeare; while the second part applies their theories to the plays, highlighting the importance of both for current debates about borders, terrorism, toleration and a multi-cultural Europe. Contrasting French and Anglo-Saxon attitudes, Wilson shows how in France, Shakespeare has been seen not as a man for the monarchy, but a man of the mob. French Theory thus helps us understand why Shakepeare’s plays swing between violence and hope. Highlighting the recent religious turn in theory, Wilson encourages a reading of plays like Hamlet, Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelth Night as models for a future peace. Examining both the violent history and promising future of the plays, Shakespeare in French Theory is a timely reminder of the relevance of Shakespeare and the lasting value of French thinking for the democracy to come.
