It provides all of the resources necessary to facilitate class discussions in each of the four learning modules, including recommendations for suggested textbooks, power point presentations, and other class room materials to be distributed to the students as study guides. A church can only go as far as its leaders. When the leadership as a whole grows spiritually, the church also grows spiritually. We grow in the Lord as we learn how to accurately handle the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15; NASB). Focused bible study, enhanced with the proper biblical interpretation skills, provides a much deeper and more thorough understanding of Gods word and thus strengthens our relationship with Him. It also provides the foundation for our theological development and biblical worldview.

Book Equipping Home group Leaders for Biblical Counseling at Emmanuel Baptist Church Mount Vernon Washington

Download or read book Equipping Home group Leaders for Biblical Counseling at Emmanuel Baptist Church Mount Vernon Washington written by Herbert Glyn Geeslin and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Scripture to counsel people within the church is not a new phenomenon, but in recent decades “biblical” counseling has become a source of controversy within the overall Christian community. Since the leadership of Emmanuel Baptist Church committed to implement a biblical counseling ministry, they believed that one of the most effective ways to reach the congregation with an understanding of such a ministry was through home-group leaders. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to equip the home-group leaders of Emmanuel Baptist Church with a functional understanding of biblical counseling and its dynamics within the church body with a view to implementing those dynamics among their individual home-groups. Chapter 1 presents five specific goals that were associated with this project, along with a description of the ministry context of EBC. The rationale behind this project was presented in light of that context. Chapter 2 offers a biblical and theological basis for pursuing a biblical counseling ministry within a local church. Some basic practical issues related to implementing a biblical counseling ministry within a local church are addressed in chapter 3. Solutions to various challenges were sought from other churches that have successful counseling ministries. In addition, suggestions from leaders in the biblical counseling movement were presented. Chapter 4 describes the procedures associated with this project during the fifteen weeks of its duration. These procedures involved a thirteen-week class for home-group leaders, a week of data analysis from surveys taken among class attendees, and a week of reflection upon strengths and weaknesses of the project. Findings of this project are presented in chapter 5. In general, the results were encouraging in that the class attendees gained new insights about biblical counseling and expressed more confidence in using the Bible in connection with personal counseling. Also, future plans with respect to continuing training and ministry implementation at EBC are described in chapter 5.

Book The Pastor as a Biblical Counselor and Equipper of Biblical Counselors Within the Local Church

Download or read book The Pastor as a Biblical Counselor and Equipper of Biblical Counselors Within the Local Church written by Daniel Sung Gu Kim and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation examines the theological foundations of the Biblical Counseling Movement (BCM), focusing on the claim that “pastors should biblically counsel their congregants and equip them to do likewise.” Through a tri-perspective analysis, the study aligns the BCM’s theological vision with the biblical theology of the shepherding metaphor, emphasizing pastors as crucial guides in biblical counseling and equipping believers for mutual care. Chapter 1 establishes the claim as the movement’s theological vision, exploring anthropological, epistemological, and ecclesiological perspectives. Pastors are seen as authorized counselors within the church’s institutional framework. Chapter 2 explores the shepherding metaphor, showcasing Christ as the eschatological Shepherd. Pastors emulate Christ’s sacrificial life, guiding congregations toward maturity. Chapter 3 examines the alignment between the BCM’s claim and the biblical theology of shepherding, emphasizing pastors’ competence in counseling and the potential involvement of lay individuals. Chapter 4 delves into the second assertion that pastors should equip congregants to become biblical counselors. Pastors play a pivotal role in overseeing the church’s soul-care ministry. Chapter 5 discusses practical implications, emphasizing collaborative pastoral counseling, the multifaceted nature of pastoral authority, and the need for a church-wide approach to congregational care. Overall, this dissertation provides comprehensive biblical theological support for the BCM’s claim, offering a theological vision for evangelical churches. While acknowledging the need for further research, the study aims to strengthen the case for pastors engaging in biblical counseling and equipping believers, ultimately benefiting the church of Christ.
