(3) that the reduced iron and unreduced oxide both catalyze the reverse reaction; (4) that the speed of the gas current through the apparatus or over the catalyzers is of great importance. Reaction (5) has been investigated by Giolitti 8 in connection with casehardening experiments. His book on casehardening gives many other references. This reaction proceeds rapidly above 810°c.
