Book Epsilon prime epsilon and Rare KL Decays from KTeV Experiment

Download or read book Epsilon prime epsilon and Rare KL Decays from KTeV Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors update the current status for the measurement of the direct-CP violation parameters????????/? in the KTeV experiment at Fermilab. Substantial statistics have been accumulated during the 1996-7 run and 1999 run for both????????/? and rare K{sub L} decay searches. The first KTeV result on????????/? published last year was Re(????????/?) = (28.0 ± 4.1) x 10{sup −4} based on the 23% data from 1996-7 run. Combining with the previous E731, NA31 and the recent preliminary NA48 results, the grand average is Re(????????/?) = (19.3 ± 3.6) x 10{sup −4} (with S = 1:49), more than 5? above zero. More data from both KTeV and NA48 after completing the analysis will further improve the precision of this measurement in the near future and hopefully further improve the agreement. New results on the branching ratio and form factor measurements of K{sub L} →??{sup −}? using 1997 data are also presented. We find that BR(K{sub L} →?+?{sup −}?) = (3.66 ± 0.04{sub stat} ± 0.07{sub syst}) x 10{sup −7}. The form factor parameter?{sub K}* is measured to be?{sub K}* = −0.157{sub −0.027}{sup +0.025}. We make the first measurement of the parameter? from the D'Ambrosio, Isidori, and Portoles form factor, finding? = −1.53 ± 0.09. This measurement of? limits the CKM parameter?> −0.2.

Book Re epsilon prime epsilon Result from KTeV An Observation of Direct CP Violation

Download or read book Re epsilon prime epsilon Result from KTeV An Observation of Direct CP Violation written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using a subset of data collected in the 1996-97 fixed target run at Fermilab, the authors report the first preliminary measurement on the direct-CP violation from the KTeV experiment. The result is, e[prime]/e= (28.0-4.1) x 10[sup[minus]4], nearly 7 standard deviations above zero obtained by a blind analysis. This establishes the long-sought direct-CP violation effect in the two-pion system of neutral kaon decays. The experimental technique, data analysis and systematic checks for this measurement are discussed and the comparison with other measurements is also presented.

Book Latest Experimental Information On epsilon prime epsilon

Download or read book Latest Experimental Information On epsilon prime epsilon written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors review the latest experimental results in search for direct CP-violation by measuring the CP-violating parameters Re([epsilon][prime]/[epsilon]) in neutral kaon decays. The recent result from Fermilab-KTeV Re([epsilon][prime]/[epsilon])= (28.0[+-] 4.1) x 10[sup[minus]4], and the new preliminary result from CERN-NA48 Re([epsilon][prime]/[epsilon])= (14.0[+-] 4.3) x 10[sup[minus]4], are presented. Both experiments, though using very different techniques, have now performed very well by collecting millions of events for all four relevant decay modes of K[sub L, S] to[pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]] and[pi][sup 0][pi][sup 0] simultaneously. The current world average on this important measurement is Re([epsilon][prime]/[epsilon])= 19.3[+-] 10[sup[minus]4] with a[chi][sup 2]/ndf= 11.1/5, establishing the existence of direct CP-violation. The experimental status of such crucial measurements and the future prospects are also discussed here.

Book excerpt: Using a subset of data collected in the 1996-97 fixed target run at Fermilab, the authors report the first preliminary measurement on the direct-CP violation from the KTeV experiment. The result is, e'/e = (28.0-4.1) x 10−4, nearly 7 standard deviations above zero obtained by a blind analysis. This establishes the long-sought direct-CP violation effect in the two-pion system of neutral kaon decays. Download or read book Observation of Direct CP Violation epsilon prime epsilon from KTeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors report the first KTeV measurement for the search of direct-CP violation by using 23% of the data sample collected in the 1996-97 fixed target run at Fermilab. The result is, Re([epsilon][prime]/[epsilon])= (28.0[+-] 4.1) x 10[sup -4], nearly 7[delta] above zero obtained by a blind analysis. This firmly establishes the long-sought direct-CP violation effect in the two-pion system ([pi][sup+][pi][sup -] versus[pi][sup 0][pi][sup 0]) of neutral kaon decays.

Book Search For the Rare Decay KL u2192 0 0

Download or read book Search For the Rare Decay KL u2192 0 0 written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a search for the rare decay KL → ?0?0? using data from the KTeV experiment, using the topology KL → ?0?$0top{D}$? (where ?$0top{D}$ → ?e+e-). Due to Bose statistics and the real nature of the photon, the KL → ?0?0? decay can proceed at lowest order only by the Cp conserving direct emission of an E2 photon. The decay vanishes to O(p4) in chiral perturbation theory and is a probe of the theory to the sixth order. The primary background to this decay consists of KL → ?0?$0top{D}$ events with one lost photon. The upper limit for the decay KL ?0?0? presented in this thesis is 2.32 x 10-7 at the 90% confidence level. This upper limit was derived from both 1997 and 1999 data, using a blind analysis. The upper limit was derived from a Feldman-Cousins method, based on a weighted total of 0.53 data events in the signal region with an expected KL → ?0?0?$0top{D}$ background of 0.37 ± 0.28 events. The previous upper limit for this decay was 5.6 x 10-6 at the 90% confidence level.

Book String Theory and the Real World

Download or read book String Theory and the Real World written by Gordon Kane and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to explain why 'string theory' may provide the comprehensive underlying theory that describes and explains our world. It is an enthusiastic view of how compactified string/M-theories (plus data that may be reachable) seem to have the possibilities of leading to a comprehensive underlying theory of particle physics and cosmology, perhaps soon. We are living in a hugely exciting era for science, one during which it may be possible to achieve a real and true understanding of our physical world.

Book Frontiers of Fundamental Physics

Download or read book Frontiers of Fundamental Physics written by M. Barone and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Olympia conference Frontiers of Fundamental Physics was a gathering of about hundred scientists who carryon their research in conceptually important areas of physical science (they do "fundamental physics"). Most of them were physicists, but also historians and philosophers of science were well represented. An important fraction of the participants could be considered "heretical" because they disagreed with the validity of one or several fundamental assumptions of modern physics. Common to all participants was an excellent scientific level coupled with a remarkable intellectual honesty: we are proud to present to the readers this certainly unique book. Alternative ways of considering fundamental matters should of course be vitally important for the progress of science, unless one wanted to admit that physics at the end of the XXth century has already obtained the final truth, a very unlikely possibility even if one accepted the doubtful idea of the existence of a "final" truth. The merits of the Olympia conference should therefore not be judged a priori in a positive or in a negative way depending on one's refusal or acceptance, respectively, but considered after reading the actual of basic principles of contemporary science, new proposals and evidences there presented. They seem very important to us.

Book Indirect Searches for New Physics

Download or read book Indirect Searches for New Physics written by Alexey A. Petrov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to discuss the search for new physics in charged leptons, neutrons, and quarks in one coherent volume. The area of indirect searches for new physics is highly topical; though no new physics particles have yet been observed directly at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the methods described in this book will provide researchers with the necessary tools to keep searching for new physics. It describes the lines of research that attempt to identify quantum effects of new physics particles in low-energy experiments, in addition to detailing the mathematical basis and theoretical and phenomenological methods involved in the searches, whilst making a clear distinction between model-dependent and model-independent methods employed to make predictions. This book will be a valuable guide for graduate students and early-career researchers in particle and high energy physics who wish to learn about the techniques used in modern predictions of new physics effects at low energies, whilst also serving as a reference for researchers at other levels. Key features: • Takes an accessible, pedagogical approach suitable for graduate students and those seeking an overview of this new and fast-growing field • Illustrates common theoretical trends seen in different subfields of particle physics • Valuable both for researchers in the phenomenology of elementary particles and for experimentalists
