Book excerpt: This Draft Marine Bill (Cm. 7351, ISBN 9780101735124) contains the following: a policy paper; the draft Marine Bill and explanatory notes; an impact assessment. The Bill sets out the Government's approach to a number of marine related issues, including environmental protection of the coastal marine environment and the seas surrounding the coast as well as access to the coastal environment for recreation. The legislation set out in this Bill was originally proposed in "Sea Change", a Marine White Paper, published in March 2007 (Cm. 7047, ISBN 9780101704724). The White Paper itself had proposed a strategic system of marine planning to balance conservation, energy and resource needs, using the principle of sustainable development. The Draft proposals in this Bill puts the earlier proposals of the White Paper into a legislative framework, which includes: the creation of the Marine Management Organisation; deliverance of new marine planning systems, including establishing new powers to enable the Government to put in place a network of marine conservation zones to protect marine life; better licensing decisions for licensing activities in the seas; reforms to a range of marine, migratory and freshwater fisheries management arrangements; allow greater access to the English coast. Comments on the Draft Bill should be submitted in writing by 26 June 2008.

Book The New Coastal History

  • Author : David Worthington
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2017-10-17
  • ISBN : 3319640909
  • Pages : 319 pages

Download or read book The New Coastal History written by David Worthington and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a pathway for the New Coastal History. Our littorals are all too often the setting for climate change and the political, refugee and migration crises that blight our age. Yet historians have continued, in large part, to ignore the space between the sea and the land. Through a range of conceptual and thematic chapters, this book remedies that. Scotland, a country where one is never more than fifty miles from saltwater, provides a platform as regards the majority of chapters, in accounting for and supporting the clusters of scholarship that have begun to gather around the coast. The book presents a new approach that is distinct from both terrestrial and maritime history, and which helps bring environmental history to the shore. Its cross-disciplinary perspectives will be of appeal to scholars and students in those fields, as well as in the environmental humanities, coastal archaeology, human geography and anthropology.

Download or read book The Spirit of Badenoch written by Judy McCutcheon and published by Austin Macauley. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the environmental, historical and cultural changes to the land and inhabitants of a little valley in the Highlands of Scotland, Badenoch, stretching from pre-history to the cessation of World War 1. Bounded by the Monadhliath and Grampian ranges, with River Spey flowing through to the sea, the topography, environment and climate dictated the number of people the valley could support. Control over land and resources was fundamental in maintaining social relationships and the folk from Badenoch did it well. Australia and New Zealand provided an opportunity and a lifestyle that they could only dream of in far-off Badenoch. Land was the key. Some returned to Badenoch, having made their fortune, whilst others settled into their new homes; this book tells their stories and the story of the land they left behind.
