Download or read book Geomorphology and Soils written by K.S. Richards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-11 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soils and sediments influence current processes, preserve evidence of past processes, indicate evolutionary phases in landscapes and provide a basis for relative and absolute chronologies. They provide an important key to the integration of short-term process studies and investigation of longer-term landform evolution. This book, first published in 1985, has been arranged to provide wide temporal and spatial coverage, with studies ranging from historic to geologic time scales and micro- to macro-spatial scales. The interdisciplinary nature of the subject is reflected in contributions from soil scientists, engineering geologists, hydrologists and geomorphologists.

Download or read book COASTAL SEDIMENT DYNAMICS AND TRACING METAL POLLUTION written by Dr. T. Lakshmi Prasad ,Dr. K. Nagalakshmi,Dr. M. Pramod Kumar ,Prof. N. Jayaraju & Prof. SS. Asadi and published by Laxmi Book Publication. This book was released on 2023-11-18 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of sediment particles, transportation and their deposition in the sedimentary environments can be deciphered by the granumlometric studies, which also provide critical information regarding sedimentary provenance and depositional conditions. Many factors like currents and wave activities, offshore and onshore movements, transgression and regression of the sea levels, periodic storms, confluence of streams, rivulets and rivers into the oceans can influence the grain size in the depositional environments. Variations in the size of the grains reflect various earth surface processes viz., developmental processes of landforms. So, many researchers from all over the world carried out panoptic research and emphasized the significance of granulometric analysis to understand and to distinguish various depositional environments viz., estuarine, lacustrine, fluvial and marine etc., in particular in the coastal realms.
Download or read book The Scientific Study of Flint and Chert written by G. de G. Sieveking and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-07-14 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thirty papers in this 1986 volume review the scientific knowledge of the nature of flint and chert at this time. These papers were presented at a 1983 interdisciplinary and international conference on flint and other cherts. Each contribution has been meticulously assessed and edited prior to publication. This collection is principally concerned with the geology and geochemistry of flint in European chert. Topics include the origin of flint; scanning electron microscopy of surface textures; and the behaviour of flint under periglacial conditions. There is a companion volume, edited by G. de G. Sieveking and M. B. Hart, on the archaeological uses of flint.

This book was released on 2023-11-25 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India is provided and blessed especially as by inheritance or nature with long coastline of over six thousand kilometers actively protective and covering a wide area both east and west coasts. This endowed coastline is marked by distinctly varied coastal environments like beaches, dunal belts, swampy environments, lagoons, deltas, estuaries etc. The continuous in flux of naturally processed material that settle as sediments brought by a number of streams and rivers draining the hinterland are the main source for the rich and valuable heavy solid homogeneous inorganic substances having a definite chemical composition as mineral deposits. The beach and sand ridges as dune sands of east and west coasts of India contain many economically important alluvial deposits as placer sand deposits. These minerals include ilmenite, rutile, garnet, zircon, monazite and sillimanite. A number of auspicious factors like source rock geology, coastal geomorphology effective drainage network and favorable climatic conditions influenced the formation of rich placer deposits in beach and dunal environments.
