This book was released on 1980 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resources which are analyzed in this chapter were identified on the basis of (a) scoping meetings which the Air Force conducted with state and federal agencies and the public and (b) a professional interdisciplinary review of the ten general environmental issues which had been identified. These issues are: rapid, large-scale growth; land use/land rights; water resources; public health; archaeological and historical resources; energy and nonrenewable resources; terrestrial and aquatic biology; air quality; Native Americans; and construction resources. This book was released on 1980 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deployment of the M-X system in sparsely populated areas of the southwestern United States will produce rapid, large-scale changes in the character of the human environment of these deployment regions. Effective operation of the M-X system requires a deployment region containing relatively few human inhabitants. Yet construction and operation of the system will result in the introduction of large numbers of people into the rural, thinly-settled deployment region. This rapid growth in population resulting from the large labor and materials demands of the project will cause significant changes in the economic and social structures of the rural deployment areas. In some cases, M-X deployment would transform deployment-region communities from slow-growing or declining communities of a few thousand population or smaller into active regional population centers of 20,000 persons or more. This would be the case for the communities adjacent to the M-X operating bases. Other areas would undergo a decade of 'boom-bust' construction growth similar to that caused by energy developments throughout the western United States. The economic, social, and local government impacts of M-X deployment have been estimated quantitatively using a series of inter-related models and computational algorithms. The direct economic effects on the regions are estimated from a given set of M-X project characteristics such as direct employment and material requirements. The indirect economic effects on the M-X are estimated using country-level interindustry-type models and the best available baseline projections for the localities studied. (Author).

Book Environmental Impact Analysis Process Deployment Area Selection and Land Withdrawal Acquisition DEIS Chapter IV Part III Environmental Consequences to the Study Regions and Operating Base Vicinities

Download or read book Environmental Impact Analysis Process Deployment Area Selection and Land Withdrawal Acquisition DEIS Chapter IV Part III Environmental Consequences to the Study Regions and Operating Base Vicinities written by DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE WASHINGTON DC. and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The M-X program would require electrical power and fuels of various forms supplied on both a relatively short term (2-5 years) for construction needs and a longer term (about 30 years) for operational requirements. At a time of diminishing energy supplies and increasing competition for energy, including gasoline, the potential effect of the project on energy resources must be considered. Possible effects on electrical power resources include increased power generation plant operation with the attending potential impacts on air quality, water consumption, wastewater generation, and disposal of fuelgas scrubbing sludges, and ash. Power transmission and distribution systems may have to be built in order to provide service to remote areas or to be upgraded to meet increased demands. The associated right-of-way acquisition and maintenance may preclude the use of affected land for other purposes. New lines and substations could have an adverse visual and aesthetic impact. Finally, the extensive cable plowing or trenching required for installation of the underground cables for power distribution to the clusters would have a temporary disruptive effect. (Author).

Book Environmental Impact Analysis

Download or read book Environmental Impact Analysis written by James T. Maughan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are thousands of environmental analyses prepared each year to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and similar programs. Written by an expert with 35 years of experience in environmental consulting, research, and education, Environmental Impact Analysis: Process and Methods makes the preparation of EIAs not only easier but more thorough. It provides a guide to successfully preparing analyses that are legally defensible; establish the base for environmental protection; and produce better projects, plans, and policies. Following an informal description of the legal requirements, the book breaks down the analysis process into a logical flow of steps and available methods to identify impacts, compare alternatives, and develop impact mitigation measures. The author illustrates each step and analysis method with examples from case studies he managed, providing insight not available from an independent review of the cases. He offers a comprehensive and consistent approach to analysis with each chapter building on information presented in previous sections. The book also describes methods from other programs such as hazardous waste clean-up and Natural Resources Damage Assessment and explains how they can be adapted for use in environmental impact analysis. It compares a diverse array of multi-level environmental impact analysis approaches. Readers learn not only how to produce an environmental document that meets regulations but also clearly maximizes the benefits of the analysis and results in a more useful product with strong stakeholder support.

Book Environmental Impact Analysis Process Environmental Impact Statement for Realignment of Beale Air Force Base

Download or read book Environmental Impact Analysis Process Environmental Impact Statement for Realignment of Beale Air Force Base written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This statement assesses the potential environmental impacts from realignment of Beale AFB, located near Marysville, California. Realignment will increase on-base activity and require construction of new facilities. Existing air quality may be affected by both construction and operational activities. Operational impacts will not be significant with respect to local and regional air quality because operations will occur within the same air basin as they did at Mather AFB. Biological habitats including vernal pools and other wetlands and riparian habitats may be affected by construction of new facilities; however, no Federal- or State-listed threatened or endangered species are expected to be affected. Realignment will create additional peak period round trips, resulting in impacts on base access, intersections, and parking lots. Portions of the water distribution system and the water treatment facilities will have to be upgraded to meet the increased demand expected as a result of the realignment. If the potential presence of abandoned underground storage tanks in areas planned for construction of new facilities and asbestos-containing materials in buildings planned for demolition or modification is verified, confirmatory studies and appropriate remedial actions will be required. The realignment will have a positive effect on the local and regional economy.
