Book excerpt: In the age of global communication where it is possible to become abreast with environmental or socio-political trends from different countries across the world, Sweden and Germany are known as global leaders in different fields. Especially their role in the educational systems is discussed a lot. EU-countries pay much attention to the Swedish way commonly known as “Swedish Model”1 and the German way is in general known with high quality standards in education. The Stockholm Conference in 1972 and in particular the Rio Conference in 1992 was the start that Sweden has environmentally led the world. Sweden is one of the pioneering countries in education for all including immigrants. Germany is known for good qualification in the education. EE plays in both educational system – in Sweden and Germany – an important role which is discussed in the present paper.

Book Environmental Education for Teacher Training in the European Union

Download or read book Environmental Education for Teacher Training in the European Union written by Kathryn O'Loan and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research project seeks to review a secondary level (compulsory, post-primary) in-service teacher training project for environmental education funded by Directorate General Eleven (DGXI) of the European Commission (EC). Two aspects of the project, called the Euro-Awareness Project, are evaluated. These are the pan-European network, called the Euro-Awareness Network, established to facilitate the project and the development of an in-service teacher training module, called Module on the Environment, Sustainability and Awareness Geared to European Schools (MESAGES). In order to do so, this research project examines the nature of criteria determined by DGXI for the submission of project proposals and key features of education and teacher training systems throughout the European Union (EU). This research project seeks to answer two questions. Firstly, did the Euro-Awareness Project develop a replicable model of in-service teacher training for environmental education in the EU? Secondly, what is the likely contribution of the Euro-Awareness Project to the objectives of the EC Environment Strategy under which it was funded? The conclusions of this research project are that the Euro-Awareness Project provided a useful insight to environmental education but did not produce a teacher training module that will have a significant impact upon secondary school practice throughout the EU. This research project further concludes that in order for future projects to be able to do so, issues relating to DGXI funding criteria need to be addressed.

Book The European Union and Global Environmental Protection

Download or read book The European Union and Global Environmental Protection written by Mar Campins Eritja and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how the EU can be a more proactive actor in the promotion of the principles of sustainability and fairness from a legal environmental perspective. The book is one of the results of the research activity of the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Environmental Law (2017-2020) funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme. The European Union and Global Environmental Protection: Transforming Influence into Action begins with an introduction of the key EU competences, instruments and mechanisms, as well as the current international challenges at the EU level. It then explores case study examples from four regulated fields: climate change, biodiversity, multilateral trade, unregulated fishing, and access to justice; and four unregulated areas: mainstreaming of the Sustainable Development Goals in EU policies, and environmental justice, highlighting the extent to which the EU might align with international environmental regimes or extend its normative power. This volume will be of great relevance to students, scholars, and EU policy makers with an interest in international environmental law and policy.

Key questions addressed include: What environmental norms, rules and policies does the EU seek to promote outside its territory? What types of activities does the EU engage in to pursue these objectives? How successful is the EU in achieving its external environmental policy objectives? What factors explain the degree to which the EU attains its goals? The book will be of interest to students and academics as well as practitioners in governments (both inside and outside of the EU), the EU institutions, think tanks, and research institutes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HauptbeschreibungField trips are a popular method for introducing students to concepts, ideas, and experiences that cannot be provided in a classroom environment. This is particularly true for trans-disciplinary areas of teaching and learning, such as science or environmental education. While field trips are generally viewed by educators as beneficial to teaching and learning, and by students as a cherished alternative to classroom instruction, educational research paints a more complex picture. At a time when school systems demand proof of the educational value of field trips, large gaps ofte.

  • ISBN : 0791482936
  • Pages : 206 pages

Download or read book Protecting Our Environment written by Janet R. Hunter and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant changes in how the world approaches global environmental problems have occurred since the late 1970s. Countries have become increasingly aware of the "borderless" nature of environmental issues, i.e., that production and consumption in one country can spill over to affect another country's environment. Protecting Our Environment considers the successes that have been achieved in the European Union (EU), as well as issues the Union still faces regarding the protection of the environment in the future. Authors Janet R. Hunter and Zachary A. Smith identify the factors that have allowed the EU to form a successful environmental regime, including the development of the environmental management approach and the principles upon which it is based. They examine in detail the challenges that have been encountered in the implementation of environmental programs, and the solutions that have been developed to address those challenges. Also considered is how economic development and environmental protection have been reconciled within the EU. By analyzing the successful example of the EU, Protecting Our Environment provides a model for a contemporary approach to global environmental problems.
