Download or read book Enjeux de la planification territoriale en Europe written by Marcus Zepf and published by EPFL Press. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book L Europe written by Yves Jean and published by Armand Colin. This book was released on 2009-10-07 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Le d veloppement territorial en Europe written by Guy Baudelle and published by PU Rennes. This book was released on 2011 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Politics of Urban and Regional Development and the American Exception

Download or read book The Politics of Urban and Regional Development and the American Exception written by Kevin R. Cox and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although all advanced industrial societies have urban and regional development policies, such policy in the United States historically has taken on a very distinct form. Compared with the more top-down, centrally orchestrated approaches of Western European countries, US cities and, to a lesser degree, states, take the lead, spurred on by developers and those with interest in rent. This bottom-up policy creates conflict as one city battles with another for new investments and as real estate developers fight over the spoils, resulting in highly contentious politics. In The Politics of Urban and Regional Development and the American Exception, Cox addresses the question of why US policy is so unique. In doing so, he illustrates the essential characteristics of American regional development through a series of case studies including housing politics in Silicon Valley; the history of the Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport; and a major redevelopment project that was rebuffed in Columbus, Ohio. Cox contrasts these examples with Western Europe’s tradition of centralized governmental involvement and stronger labor movements that historically have been more concerned with creating what he calls "the good geography" than profits for developers, whatever the shortfalls in policy outcomes might be. The differences illuminate the peculiar nature of political engagement and local competition in shaping the way US urban development has evolved.

Book Du local l Europe

Download or read book Du local l Europe written by Christel Alvergne and published by Presses Universitaires de France - PUF. This book was released on 2002 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Understanding Interactions in Complex Systems

Download or read book Understanding Interactions in Complex Systems written by Stéphane Cordier and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since human activities are embedded in interactions, they are at the very center of the modeling of any form of social life, shaping societies, groups and interpersonal relationships. All theories of social, cognitive and cultural life are thus associated with explicit or tacit models of the nature of interactions and relations. This book proposes a multifaceted exploration of the complex nature of interactions, and of the modeling of complex interactional systems. It shows that all disciplines can be enriched by exploring alternative paradigms in the modeling of interactions, and that if discipline-bound studies tend to underestimate the multi-dimensional nature of interactions, ignoring it is not an option. It will be of great interest for anyone involved in disciplines such as economics, geography, linguistics, communication studies, education sciences and sociology, and in fields such as the study of networks, interactional systems, relations between agents, and mathematical and computational modeling.

Book Innovation in Clusters

Download or read book Innovation in Clusters written by Estelle Vallier and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forged at the heart of international political bodies by expert researchers, the innovation cluster concept has been incorporated into most public policies in industrialized countries. Based largely on the ideas behind the success of Silicon Valley, several imitative attempts have been made to geographically group laboratories, companies and training in particular fields in order to generate “synergies” between science and industry. In its first part, Innovation in Clusters analyzes the infatuation with the system of clusters that is integral to innovative policies by analyzing its socio historical context, its revival in management and its worldwide expansion, looking at a French example at a local level. In its second part, the book explores a specialized biotechnology cluster dating back to the end of the 1990s. The sociological survey conducted twenty years later sheds a different light on the dynamics and relationships between laboratories and companies, contradicting the commonly held belief that innovation is made possible by geographical proximity.

Book Territorial Development Cohesion and Spatial Planning

Download or read book Territorial Development Cohesion and Spatial Planning written by Neil Adams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-06 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines some of the evolving challenges faced by EU regional policy in light of enlargement and to assess some of the approaches and trends in terms of territorial development policy and practice that are emerging out of this process. Focusing on the experiences on Central and Eastern Europe, these chapters reflect on the diversity of approaches to spatial planning and the the politics of policy formation and multi-level governance operations – from local to trans-national agendas. Promoting increased awareness and understanding of these issues is the main purpose of the book, as well as harnessing the extensive capacity and ‘knowledge’ within these countries that can greatly enrich the discourse within an enlarged ‘epistemic community’ of European spatial planning academics, practitioners and policy-makers. The recently acquired CEE dimension provides a unique opportunity to examine the evolution of existing ‘epistemic communities’ as well as to explore the potential emergence of new ones..
