Book Enhanced Capabilities of Advanced Airborne Radar Simulation

Download or read book Enhanced Capabilities of Advanced Airborne Radar Simulation written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MITRE has enhanced the capabilities of the Advanced Airborne Radar Simulation, a flexible end-to-end steady-state simulation that can be used to evaluate the critical issues affecting the performance of advanced airborne radars that use adaptive antenna techniques, i.e., space-time processing (STP), for both jamming and clutter suppression. For a large phased-array antenna, the limitations of a practical implementation of optimal STP will generally require suboptimal adaptive array architectures, such as element space, beam space, and subarrays. The simulation was modified to augment these suboptimal architectures with spatial degrees of freedom in elevation. The received signal models, i.e., target, jamming, and clutter, were modified to include the effects of near-field scattering using a multiple point scatterer model.

Book Foundations for Innovative Application of Airborne Radars

Download or read book Foundations for Innovative Application of Airborne Radars written by Alexey Nekrasov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-02 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses methods for measuring the water surface backscattering signature and estimating the near-surface wind vector over water using airborne radars, in addition to their standard application. Airborne FMCW demonstrator system, Doppler navigation system, airborne weather radar, airborne radar altimeter, and airborne precipitation radar are analyzed in order to be used for that purpose. The radars functionality is enhanced for their operation in a scatterometer mode. A circle flight and/or a rectilinear flight of an aircraft over the water surface is considered depending on the radar design features to perform measurements of the azimuth normalized radar cross section curve of the water surface and/or the near-surface wind speed and direction. Flight recommendations to perform measurements along with algorithms for measuring the water surface backscattering signature and for retrieval of the wind speed and direction over water are presented.

Book Adaptive Airborne Radar Simulation with Equalization Filter Taps

Download or read book Adaptive Airborne Radar Simulation with Equalization Filter Taps written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space-time processing (STP) provides an adaptive filter for an airborne phased-array radar to detect targets m clutter and jamming that have spatial and Doppler spread. We developed a flexible airborne radar simulation to identify limitations in the techniques and to evaluate the capabilities of different STP designs. One of the space-time architectures, jointly adaptive STP in the element space, employs joint processing of array elements and pulse train data. The array elements provide the azimuth (spatial) information, and the pulse repetition interval (PRI) taps or pulses provide the Doppler information required to form the two-dimensional azimuth-Doppler filter. In the adaptive mode, additional temporal information from taps separated by a sampling rate interval (greater than Nyquist) provide additional degrees of freedom to mitigate interference due to wideband, narrowband, and multipath jamming. This paper discusses the theory and implementation of STD using temporal equalization filter taps, and presents three different examples illustrating the features of the simulation ... Book Survey of Radar Simulation Training at ATC Field Facilities

Download or read book Survey of Radar Simulation Training at ATC Field Facilities written by Stephen Karovic and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of a system-wide review of the current air traffic control enroute and terminal radar simulation training capability are discussed. Teams of air traffic controllers from NAFEC and from the field, with engineering support, visited 10 en route air traffic control centers and 17 terminals equipped with Automated Radar Terminal Systems (ARTS III). Training personnel from three other ARTS III facilities were interviewed. It was found that the field simulation systems, although originally designed only as software checkout tools, now provide the field facilities with a radar training capability far surpassing that previously possible. However, despite the generally wide acceptance and acclaim given this new capability, shortcomings were uncovered which limit the training effectiveness and full utilization of the system. These shortcomings, including problems with equipment, software, staffing, etc., are identified and discussed. Specific recommendations are made for the purpose of enhancing air traffic control radar simulation training in field facilities, including software modifications, increased staffing, improved communications, and, in terminals, an increased number of displays. Book Synthetic Aperture Radar Simulation

Download or read book Synthetic Aperture Radar Simulation written by N. Szabo and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1980's, a new generation of airborne radar systems will become operational. These radars will have a number of new capabilities, but their synthetic apertures will have the greatest impact on simulation of the system since they provide a tenfold increase in resolution. Increased radar landmass simulator resolution is not the only problem implied by this increase. In particular, the sparsity of the DMA data bases presents a challenge in the generation of realistic images. Other new requirements include the simulation of anomalies caused by the Doppler mapping. For the last two years, Link has conducted an R & D program to explore the requirements of these new generation radars. This paper reports on the results. (Author).

Book Simulation of a Weather Radar Display for Over Water Airborne Radar Approaches

Download or read book Simulation of a Weather Radar Display for Over Water Airborne Radar Approaches written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airborne radar approach (ARA) concepts are being investigated as a part of NASA's Rotorcraft All-Weather Operations Research Program on advanced guidance and navigation methods. This research is being conducted using both piloted simulations and flight test evaluations. For the piloted simulations, a mathematical model of the airborne radar was developed for over-water ARAs to offshore platforms. This simulated flight scenario requires radar simulation of point targets, such as oil rigs and ships, distributed sea clutter, and transponder beacon replies. Radar theory, weather radar characteristics, and empirical data derived from in-flight radar photographs are combined to model a civil weather/mapping radar typical of those used in offshore rotorcraft operations. The resulting radar simulation is realistic and provides the needed simulation capability for ongoing ARA research. Clary, G. R. Ames Research Center NASA-TM-84315, A-9185, NAS 1.15:84315

Book Radar and EW Modeling in MATLAB and Simulink

Download or read book Radar and EW Modeling in MATLAB and Simulink written by Carlos A. Dávila and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2023-10-31 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This resource covers basic concepts and modeling examples for the three “pillars” of EW: Electronic Attack (EA) systems, Electronic Protection (EP) techniques, and Electronic Support (ES). It develops techniques for the modeling and simulation (M&S) of modern radar and electronic warfare (EW) systems and reviews radar principles, including the radar equation. M&S techniques are introduced, and example models developed in MATLAB and Simulink are presented and discussed in detail. These individual models are combined to create a full end-to-end engineering engagement simulation between a pulse-Doppler radar and a target. The radar-target engagement model is extended to include jamming models and is used to illustrate the interaction between radar and jamming signals and the impact on radar detection and tracking. In addition, several classic EA techniques are introduced and modeled, and the effects on radar performance are explored. This book is a valuable resource for engineers, scientists, and managers who are involved in the design, development, or testing of radar and EW systems. It provides a comprehensive overview of the M&S techniques that are used in these systems, and the book's many examples and case studies provide a solid foundation for understanding how these techniques can be applied in practice.

Book Investigation of Digital Techniques for Radar Land Mass Simulation

Download or read book Investigation of Digital Techniques for Radar Land Mass Simulation written by PENNSYLVANIA RESEARCH ASSOCIATES INC PHILADELPHIA. and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the extent to which digital computing techniques may afford improved performance in the realtime simulation of airborne radars is reported. It is desired to reproduce the display presented by a scanning, groundmapping radar, having a range in the order of 200 miles and a resolution in the order of 60 points per mile. The simulated radar is mounted in an aircraft that flies at a maximu speed of Mach 3 at any altitude up to 10 miles, the flight plan not known to the simlator in advance. While a cursory examination of such requirements indicates that a straight-forward digital computer simulation of the display waveform would require exorbitant memory sizes and tremendous computational speeds, many factors can be used to advantage, in order to reduce the computational complexity to economically manageable proportions. Redundancy in the terrain itself implies that the height and reflectivity observed by the radar are not purely random functions; their consistency or predictability can be shown to significantly reduce the information-handling capacity of a simulator.
