Book excerpt: Volume one of a comprehensive series on the Dreyfus Affair, this account chronicles for the first time in English and day by day, the drama that destabilized French society (1894-1906) and reverberated across the world. A deliberate miscarriage of justice, the public degradation of an innocent Jewish officer and his incarceration on Devil's Island, espionage, intrigue, media pressure, vehement antisemitism and political skulduggery - topics so relevant to our times - are set within a broad historical context. Meticulous research, new translations of key documents, a wealth of primary sources and illustrations and a select bibliography make this an indispensable reference work.

Book Booms and Busts the Case of Subprime Mortgages

Download or read book Booms and Busts the Case of Subprime Mortgages written by Edward M. Gramlich and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-05 with total page 827 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Booms & busts have played a prominent role in Amer. economic history. In the 19th cent., the U.S. benefited from the canal boom, the railroad boom, the minerals boom, & a financial boom. The 20th cent. brought another financial boom, a postwar boom, & a dot-com boom. Each of these cases featured initial discoveries or breakthroughs, widespread adoption, widespread investment, & then a collapse & many investors lost a lot of money. When the dust cleared, there was financial carnage & many investors learned to be more careful the next time. This article describes why the subprime lending market, despite its problems, is a promising development that has permitted low-income & minority borrowers to participate in credit markets.

For years, while spending summers together at a lakeside cabin, they created art together, from sand to scribbles . . . to anything available. Then Cass moved away to New York. When Megan finally convinces her parents to let her spend a week in the city, too, it seems like Cass has completely changed. She has tattoos, every artist in the city knows her. She even eats chicken feet now! At least one thing has stayed the same: They still make their best art together. But when one girl betrays the other's trust on the eve of what is supposed to be their greatest artistic feat yet, can their friendship survive? Can their art?

Book The Routledge Companion to English Folk Performance

Download or read book The Routledge Companion to English Folk Performance written by Peter Harrop and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-12 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This broad-based collection of essays is an introduction both to the concerns of contemporary folklore scholarship and to the variety of forms that folk performance has taken throughout English history. Combining case studies of specific folk practices with discussion of the various different lenses through which they have been viewed since becoming the subject of concerted study in Victorian times, this book builds on the latest work in an ever-growing body of contemporary folklore scholarship. Many of the contributing scholars are also practicing performers and bring experience and understanding of performance to their analyses and critiques. Chapters range across the spectrum of folk song, music, drama and dance, but maintain a focus on the key defining characteristics of folk performance – custom and tradition – in a full range of performances, from carol singing and sword dancing to playground rhymes and mummers' plays. As well as being an essential reference for folklorists and scholars of traditional performance and local history, this is a valuable resource for readers in all disciplines of dance, drama, song and music whose work coincides with English folk traditions.

Book A Factual Assessment of the Draft Common Frame of Reference

Download or read book A Factual Assessment of the Draft Common Frame of Reference written by Luisa Anatoniolli and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2010-12-23 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a case-based assessment of the Draft Common Frame of Reference carried out by the Common Core Evaluating Group, which gathers a number of well-established and younger scholars coming from Eastern and Western countries of the European Union using the working method of the research project "The Common Core of European Private Law" (www.common-core.org). The aim of the assessment is to test how the Draft Common Frame of Reference could work when applied in different national legal systems. To this end, a number of factual situations, i.e. hypothetical cases, have been drafted by the authors and solved through the application of both national rules and rules of the DCFR. Thereby, similarities and differences in the outcome of the cases have been analysed, together with difficulties - if any - in the application of the "Principles of European Law". The Common Core assessment has been carried out as part of the "Joint Network of European Private Law" Project (CoPECL), financed by the EU Commission.

This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beware! Dangerous secrets lie between the pages of this book. OK, I warned you. But if you think I'll give anything away, or tell you that this is the sequel to my first literary endeavor, The Name of This Book is Secret, you're wrong. I'm not going to remind you of how we last left our heroes, Cass and Max-Ernest, as they awaited intiation into the mysterious Terces Society, or the ongoing fight against the evil Dr. L and Ms. Mauvais. I certainly won't be telling you about how the kids stumble upon the Museum of Magic, where they finally meet the amazing Pietro! Oh, blast! I've done it again. Well, at least I didn't tell you about the missing Sound Prism, the nefarious Lord Pharaoh, or the mysterious creature born in a bottle over 500 years ago, the key to the biggest secret of all. I really can't help myself, now can I? Let's face it - if you're reading this, it's too late.
